Lunatic Marxists
Supporters of Castro's disastrous regime in Cuba love to blame the United States for Havana's problems, but this article shows everything wrong in Cuba has one cause, Marxism.

HAVANA (AP) — Cuba legalized the sale and purchase of automobiles for all citizens on Wednesday, another major step in the communist run island's economic transformation and one that the public has been clamoring for during decades.

The government announced the move in April, but sales have been on hold until the measure was published into law in the Official Gazette.

Under the law, which takes effect Oct. 1, buyers and sellers must each pay a 4 percent tax, and buyers must make a sworn declaration that the money used for the purchase was obtained legally.

Unrestricted sales had previously been limited to cars built before the 1959 revolution, one of the reasons Cuba's streets are about the only place on the planet one routinely finds a multitude of finned American classics from the 1950s such as Chevrolets Bel Airs and Chrysler Imperials, all in various states of disrepair.

Doctors, athletes, artists and others sent abroad on official business were allowed to bring cars back or purchase a boxy, Russian-made Lada or Moskvich from the state. Some senior workers were given company cars, though gas usage is strictly monitored to make sure they are only driven for work reasons.

The new law will allow the sale of cars from all models and years, and it legalizes ownership of more than one car, although tax rates go up slightly.

"this article shows everything wrong in Cuba has one cause, Marxism."

Where is that shown in this article? Marxism isn't mentioned.

You mean:

"I have decided to use this tangentially related article to support my belief that everything wrong in Cuba has one cause, Marxism."

I like this game. Here is an article that clearly shows that everything that went wrong in Animal Farm was Snowball's fault: http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201109200295.html

Dear Lord Tettleton, you have given us much information about the evil Marxist enemy. However, we the blind and stupid, cannot recognise the nemesis. Would you please give us the knowledge so that we can define and attack our foe?
SacredDigits (102 D)

Everything wrong in Cuba is that people don't have new cars.

I only wish I could live in a society where that was the sum total of my problems.

Yay, bring back McCarthy from the dead and let's go hunt those commies!
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

Guillaume, you don't have to hunt for communists. You just wait for them to come to naked, starving, and begging for guidance.
You'll be waiting a long time before anyone comes to you begging for guidance TC.

Okay, we get it. Marxism has generally not been very successful as a political ideology. Cuba is an example. So what? If some people are incorrect in their opinions about Cuba as you say then isn't it enough for you to know that you're so much more intelligent than them? Is there any need to force them to see the error of their ways? In my personal experience there are few things more annoying than people who are always trying to show others where they are wrong and correct them.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

"has generally not been very successful"
Total falsehood.
Marxism has been a violent, murderous if not genocidal catastrophe for each and every society it gained control of.
It's not a matter of intelligence nightlord. I learned long ago I'm a middling sort.
It's a matter of willingness to find the truth and recognize it.
It's a matter of intellectual honesty.
I don't force anyone to do anything. No one has to read what I post. No one has to respond.
The total imbeciles defending Marxism are compelled to respond because they can't let the truth stand unchallenged or their myth collapses.
When they respond to me in my thread I will correct them. Thank you.
largeham (149 D)

Uh Tettleton, I don't think you have ever in any of your threads given a proper definition of Marxism (beyond your implied: Marxism is anything I disagree with).
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

The perfect description of Marxism begins with the premise is that individualism is a chimera, that any individual’s achievements should be considered entirely derivative from society, so the achievements need not be treated as belonging to the individual. Society is entitled to socialize — i.e., conscript — whatever portion it considers its share. It may, as an optional act of political grace, allow the individual the remainder of what is misleadingly called the individual’s possession.

The mob of individuals comprise a malleable, hence vulnerable, herd whose “false consciousness” is imposed by corporate America. Therefore the herd needs kindly, paternal supervision by a cohort of protective herders. This means subordination of the bovine many to a regulatory government staffed by people drawn from the clever minority not manipulated into false consciousness.

Marxists presume the public’s incompetence, they owe minimal deference to people’s preferences. These preferences are not really “theirs,” because the preferences derive from false, meaning imposed, consciousness. This convenient theory licenses the enlightened vanguard, the political class, to exercise maximum discretion in wielding the powers of the regulatory state.

So basically Marxists feel we are all helpless sheep who would die nude, hungry, and shivering without the absolute power of the state to control all property and save "us."

What lunacy.

largeham (149 D)

Lol, Marxism is not about the state being some paternalistic being that take care of us. It is about worker self-management, workers taking over the means of production and running society through democratic means.

When are you people going to stop reacting to TC's tobacco drooling spittle and realize that if he were the great politico-econo-social brain he thinks he is, he wouldn't be using the Diplomacy game forum as his spittoon, but expectorate his wad with real economists. Maybe his college kids don't want to listen to him any more??

I don't know if anyone is interested in studying or analyzing things like that, but I am. When I was first starting to play diplomacy (back in, oh, February?), I immersed myself in reading all about the strategies and theories that people had written articles on. Since discovering this site (back in, oh, last week?) I've really come to enjoy the Ancient Med variant.

A Question, Doctor Who--And Sci-Fin In General--Fans:
The Terminator went back in time to kill Sarah and then John Connor.
The Borg went back in time to stop First Contact and assimilate Earth.
The Omega 13, for God's sake, allowed a do-over that let Tim Allen win.
Why don't Doctor Who bad guys just travel back in time and kill him as a baby? (Also, wtf happened in this season finale...I'm STILL confused!) :p
