The Return of Tom Bombadil!
I'm returning after a little over a month off from games. School has died down a bit as I've just finished midterms, and what better way to spend spring break than getting my Diplomacy kick going again. Starting 2 games, details inside.

World Diplomacy IX
So many territories, so many players... it scares me. I've only ever played the 'traditional' diplomacy but this variant looks quite interesting. How does it compare to the classic game? What tactics are used?

Anonymous No Message Games
If you play an anonymous no messaging game is it OK to liaise and share attacks/supports with your mates?
If it is acceptable I won't report it but it does spoil the game.
Can one of the 'experts' please clarify this for me please

URGENT GAME TEST NEEDED
I think I might have accidentally stumbled upon a degenerate means to circumvent public press. I'm not in a public press game atm so I can't check. Could a player who is in the game please PM me asap?

Does anyone else hate the interface?
I'm new to this site, and I truly hate the way the board is set up. It is impossible to distinguish between units, and the arrows are confusing as much as they are beneficial.

Austrian turkish alliances
Can anyone point me at a successful example game for an austrian turkish alliance? im more curious about game long alliances rather than holding a line to force a draw. can it be done?

@ uclabb, the title of that game is priceless. Arrested development was an amazing show

Its probably the most difficult alliance to pull off. I think I only did it successfully once, where Austria and I stayed allied until the end and ended up in a 4 way draw.

Frank, is that Turkish army in Budapest part of the alliance?

Joker's alliance is probably the best example, but I think it takes extraordinary circumstances to pull it off successfully (either great diplomacy, poor players, dumb players, etc.). That or an England who can't do anything about the A/T :P

I don't get what's so weird about it. If Turkey gets Bul, Gre, Nap, Rom and Austria gets Ven, Ser, Rum. It's almost the same set-up as an Austria-Italy alliance post-Lepanto. I'd think Drawing the border through half of the Balkans (as opposed to having it run through Con) is a fair trade-off for relieving the Tri/Ven border.

@2nd: Looking back at the press, I moved to Budapest expecting to bounce. So it was part of the alliance. The game was just about to draw at that point, so my Austria ally didn't read press or make the right orders that phase.

@Odaly, it is harder for new turkish units to get to new supply centers, and if a retreat is forced on the front line where none is possible, the destruction of one of those units could make the difference between a draw and a solo...

Looking at the first example. I think england on 7 (den, swe, nor, stp, +england) can hold off the entire Austro-Turkish alliance single handed - one unit in den, two to hold stp, and four to hold MAO. No Austro/Turkish fleets in the northern seas makes this pretty hard, so to solo Austria or Turkey needs to stab the other.

(though i acknowledge that a fleet crawling along the coast may be able to break out... it is still hard to get to the point where you've taken everything but those 7... this is not a viable winning alliance, it is a viable vehicle towards a stab of one by the other for a solo.

Turkeys "winning SCs" are nearly invariably in the turkish homelands. Whichever way the Turk wishes to expand, he has to go around his ally. Even with the best intentions, the temptation for Turkey to stab is simply too great I think.

This one worked well for a 3 way draw with France
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=81450#gamePanel

This one worked out rather well. I mean, I didn't gain a LOT of SC's, but me an Austria maintained a good alliance throughout the game, which led ours (and France's) ultimate success.

This is a VERY old game, one of my first. i think this goes to what people are saying, the austria turkey alliance is best for
A. 3 way draws with another very strong (solo threat) player
B. New / Bad players who have no idea what they are doing
ODaly (236 D)

@YJ: couldn't the same be said for Italian "victory SCs" lying within Austria? or the Austrian ones in Italy and Turkey?

Need some advice on English
I'm currently working on an English translation of an upcoming online role-playing collectible card game taking place in a complex sci-fi setting (I'll make some promo when its launch will be imminent, I believe some of you will appreciate the setting or artworks even if CCGs are not your cup of tea).

i am getting bored
after a crushing defeat in my last live game, and my wasting-time-online phase coming to an end, should i completely leave this website? please voice opinions below. and yes, i know this will be slightly skewed since most of the people who would vote yes have already muted me so won't see this.

oh... but i guess i might make my rankings first... uh. i wanted to do that... well we'll see.
