Is it really not possible for the mods to email the honorable TGM? Seem to remember TGM saying its just a matter of 'running the code'.. Asking that is hardly bugging him is it? ;)

@Katsa: I dont know much about language or literature, but maybe the etymology of "wherefore" can be traced back to English being a Germanic language. In Dutch, where it is spelled a little differently (waarvoor) it means "what does it serve for" or "to what purpose", I would have interpreted it as such. So I guess that maybe makes you and Obi and roughly twenty-five million Dutch speakers on the planet understand the passage ;)

Anyway, on another note, BUMP. Please send The Ghost Master an email, I cant imagine it would conflict THAT much with his shoolwork and we just love his ranks. It makes for great competition on this site. Just like ATP rankings for exmaple. HE does great work.

Why would the mods email him? While many people endlessly fixate on their GR, it is not a part of the site - it is something Ghost does because he chooses to.

In other words, if you want to email him, email him. He'll likely be irritated with you, of course, but this isn't even remotely close to the mod's responsibility.

@zultar: it *is* time, but let's face it, $30 is 4 hours' pay minimum wage, right? so, we compensate him at a comparable rate (not sure how long it takes, so the $30 would obv. change if it's longer) so he gets something out of doing it.

$30 is 3 hours pay, Eden. Minimum wage is up to $10 an hour most places now.

Oh, and he could argue that it's *his* effort and demand the pay *he* wants, like $20 per hour or even $45 or $50 per. Not like we can get some minimum wage flunky off the street to do it.

Well, KY is letting the feds drive their minimum wage. Many states have it set higher than minimum.

Bet regardless of what minimum wage is, the work TGM does is *not* unskilled labor and therefore he can de,mand his price up to what the market will bear. He could demand a rate that, if paid fulltime, would provide him 6 figures a year and we would gladly pay it because we desperately want our GRs.

The point was you suggested paying him minimu wage for doing the work. Why not make him an *offer* and see what his *counteroffer* is.

@stratagos: I am not saying its a part of the responsibility of the mods, I am just asking them if they want to do it.. maybe reconsider if they already thought about it and decided not to. But it wasnt particularly directed at them either. Maybe there is a friend of the ghostmaster around here somewhere who doesnt mind asking him. I just think its a great list and mechanic, GR, making this site that much more interesting. Nobody knows if TGM doesnt have the time or just didnt think of it, because he actually wants a break from the site or something.

There is a huge difference between asking something and 'thinking something is a part of the responsibilites of the mods'. You linked those two together, not me.

@PE and Draug: Haha.. I think TGM can drive his price up by quite much, yeah :) He has a monopoly after all and people love competitions :) FIFA, NFL etc etc.

I pledge $50 towards the costs of integrating/automating/embedding/etc GR calculations in the website. Using current logic (to minimize programming). Even if it only shows current month (no archive). Any other takers?

...what do you think suggesting minimum wage as a payment option is?

(And yes, I realize in most cases minimum wage to skilled labor is an insult, but based on the fact that he did it for what, two years for free... the whole idea is that we're asking a favor, it's just gone from "Please do all these calculations for us for free" to "Please do all these calculations for us for some compensation" and thus become less of a hassle, in light of the fact that it's become more of a hassle for him to do with his busy schedule.

The idea isn't, necessarily, to make a business transaction, but if that's the way it ended up going then obviously we would switch tacks appropriately.)

I think it's an insult. If someone offered me minimum wage, I'd be insulted. But to clarify, make him an offer of what you think his time and energy is *worth*. There is such a thing as insulting the person you are trying to do business with by asking for too much at too little a price. They just say "screw you" and walkaway form the table with no counter offer because they aren't interested in working with a prick.

I covered that in the next post. lol. It's not a business transaction per se, the idea is that since he was already doing it for free as a favor that, since his time is more limited now, we give him some money for it instead. If it goes down the business transaction road then obviously we handle it like a business transaction, but the idea was never to make it strictly business.

Folks, I just want to let you know that Alderian is working on the calculations. I have been talking with him, and we are trying to find the discrepancy between Ghost's numbers and his. I don't know if any of the mods is actively working on this. The last update we have was there was a survey but nothing since then. We are also talking about the PPSC calculation as Ghost's explanation and formulae are not that clear.

I don't know about Alderian and I don't speak for him and others working on this, but I think the individual donation would be put to better use if we donate it to the site/Kestas as an incentive/pledge to integrate GR.

$7 in Michigan is minimum wage, and I think that's national, but I also agree with Draug. Skilled labor is a lot more than that. I'd say that if it really is just running a process like he has often said, it's still worth 50-100 a month.

@zultar: Great initiative! Sounds cool and I am def willing to donate (still want to at some point in general for the site as well, because I think its great, but I dont have pay pal, so that has been a small hurdle so far..).
