Computer skullfuckery pt. 2
So I'm in four games right now and they're all pretty fucked over because I CDed/near-CDed due to virus issues. I'm looking for a replacement in 3 of them. Details inside.

Game drawn
Is it possible to draw a game with a clear stalemate line in which one nation has refused to draw even though the same exact moves have been made by everyone for many turns? And there is clearly no way to break the lines besides an NMR or an attack between the allied powers which has not happened in years and will not happen since it is a WTA.

Email the mods. If it is truly stalemated and there has been no progress for several years, they will take action. I am not a mod, so feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure there is precedence of action being taken in these situations.

Alright thanks, if it goes on for a couple more years and he still does not draw I will email them

I think if the same exact moves are made 3 turns in a row, the game is supposed to end in a draw. So, if that has happened, you have the right to email the mods and get them to end the game (I think, not completely sure).

No, but your situation is covered under the rules that says you shouldn't to anything to ruin the game for other people and refusing to draw basically ruins the game. Which is why the mods will force draws in some cases.
fortknox (2059 D)

Mr. Bombadil is correct. If someone who is obviously stalemated refuses to draw, then they are basically waiting for a NMR to take advantage. That isn't gamesmanship and attempts to use the system, itself, to take advantage of the game. Email the mods (help-rules of webdip-near the bottom of the page), and we'll take care of it.

FortKnox e-mailed me about this, and now I will explain my reasoning. While gunboats have no messaging tabs, you can send messages through orders and actions. In the last few turns, I was trying to send messages for Turkey and Italy to first eliminate Austria. I wasn't sure if my orders were being observed by either. I think I got my response in Turkey's hitting Sevastopol as a "no". Only he can answer that. And that is why the game, http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=69032, finally ended.

I also told FortKnox that I found it interesting that in an early game, http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=1862, Vampiero had 17, and the other two of us had the other 17 about equally split. Vampiero forced that he had clearly won the game by getting 17, and one of the two of us had to give up an SC, otherwise he'd keep entering orders indefinitely. I looked it up and the conversation is still there about the mods declining to intervene.

I am also in a anonymous game now where I do not get why they all want to draw. I am the smallest of them! Moves are still being made (13 moves, 9 support moves, and 6 holds). I get the feeling that many people are going into games, eliminating a few countries and then drawing it to get the points rather than trying to win.

It was not my intent to wait for a CD/NMR. I was just trying to give the best chance for my messaging to be seen by the others. People who have played against me can probably verify that I don't try to take advantage. They may not like some of the decisions I make, but I think they would say I play fairly.

Weird, I can't see the order logs or the armies/fleets in http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=1862
Though I will point out that game was about 4 years ago, mod policies may have changed since then.

You were not in the wrong here Jefe. It is very reasonable to do what you did with the hopes of cutting down the number included in the draw.

And one common tactic of the 17 player is to pull back from the line to encourage a stab and then go for the win. Works sometimes especially with players who don't see the ploy for what it is.

Error triggered: Division by zero.
This was probably caused by a software bug. The details of this error have been successfully logged and will be attended to by a developer.
Got this when I tried to go from page 6 to page 7 of the open games.

Need replacements for banned players
A gunboat WorldDip game, Metal Swarm, needs two substitutes for players who were banned. Argentina and Western Canada are vacant. No turns have been missed and the positions are decent. Low buy-in.

I'm sending this from a school computer in the lab. Just wanted to apologize to everyone for the crapload of games I CDed out of. I'm not going to be able to pick those up for some time because my laptop is f-f-f-f-fucked and I can't get down here consistently enough to play a good game.

Mod Policies
So, there has recently been some confusion/criticism about how mods handle cases. Without talking about any specific cases, I'd like to review how we handle different cases and the reasons for it. Hopefully, this can turn into a productive discussion, since this site is community-driven.

Why the hell can't people press the ready button in gunboat games?????

its not like they are waiting for an answer to a message or anything
its ridiculous. If they want to wait because they cant play in the next phase or something, then they shouldn't have agreed to play in the game in the first place with that phase length
