Computer skullfuckery pt. 2
So I'm in four games right now and they're all pretty fucked over because I CDed/near-CDed due to virus issues. I'm looking for a replacement in 3 of them. Details inside.

Game drawn
Is it possible to draw a game with a clear stalemate line in which one nation has refused to draw even though the same exact moves have been made by everyone for many turns? And there is clearly no way to break the lines besides an NMR or an attack between the allied powers which has not happened in years and will not happen since it is a WTA.

Are live gunboats always corrupt and live press games almost always corrupt?

Just wondering... Sometimes I have a couple of hours and want to play. Am I always a sucker?

Error triggered: Division by zero.
This was probably caused by a software bug. The details of this error have been successfully logged and will be attended to by a developer.

Need replacements for banned players
A gunboat WorldDip game, Metal Swarm, needs two substitutes for players who were banned. Argentina and Western Canada are vacant. No turns have been missed and the positions are decent. Low buy-in.

I'm sending this from a school computer in the lab. Just wanted to apologize to everyone for the crapload of games I CDed out of. I'm not going to be able to pick those up for some time because my laptop is f-f-f-f-fucked and I can't get down here consistently enough to play a good game.

Mod Policies
So, there has recently been some confusion/criticism about how mods handle cases. Without talking about any specific cases, I'd like to review how we handle different cases and the reasons for it. Hopefully, this can turn into a productive discussion, since this site is community-driven.

Gunboat and the
Why the hell can't people press the ready button in gunboat games?????

its not like they are waiting for an answer to a message or anything
its ridiculous. If they want to wait because they cant play in the next phase or something, then they shouldn't have agreed to play in the game in the first place with that phase length
Or you should have joined a game with shorter phase lengths?

not many people want to play games less than 24 hours that arent live games...
Meher Baba (125 D)
18 Oct 11 UTC
Because maybe the check their game only once a day at the same time each day. So this way it is guaranteed to take the full 24 hours for the turn to process. Learn a little patience. Go play some angry bird or something.

@Cockney - You agreed to the phase length, so quite bitchin about it and shut the fuck up.
fortknox (2059 D)

I'm with draug. You agree to the phase length, so expect every turn to go the phase length.

It's all point of view. If you force yourself to expect each turn will be the entire phase length, you can be pleasantly surprised when it is shorter. If you expect everyone to finalize, you'll be pissed off when not everyone does.

I like to be fine and pleasantly surprised than anxious and pissed off, myself...

how about u stop telling me to shut the fuck up? twat

@meher @fortknox - im allowed to express an opinion. I appreciate people sometimes log on once a day etc, why they cant press ready once done is beyond me though

im not pissed or anxious- just dont get it?

You realize you're just being unreasonable, here? Do what FK says, and you'll be fine.

Cockney, I guess it depends on how the player's time schedule is structured.

For example, if a player plays at roughly the same time every day, then hitting ready in a 24hour gunboat won't present much of an issue for him/her. This is because he will probably have some time left on the clock every time he logs in.

However, if the player can play once every 24 hours, but doesn't know exactly when in those 24 hours he/she will be able to play, then hitting ready could result in a NMR scenario. For example, if I play at 7am one day and 8pm the next day, that is still 2 moves in 48 hours, but there is a good chance I could NMR if I had hit ready at 7am.

In addition to what others have mentioned about time structuring, etc... a player has every right to think about their moves for the full duration of the phase if they need or want to.
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))

Just to complete, sometimes I don´t have proper time to look carefully at the board (specially when you have many games, or the games are somehow important, like the GB tournament), so I enter provisory moves and don´t finish expecting I can have some time to do a better analisys without risking a NMR.

A good advice to diplomacy In general is that you shouldn´t expect others players to do something just because you want.....

@Cockney - I have a right to express my opinion too. My opinion is your a whiny little bitch and should shut the fuck up.
Meher Baba (125 D)

@Draugnar and @Cockney
You both sure do have that right to express yourselves. And you will find that learning a mature use of that right, where it is channeled into helping and serving others and building forum friendships instead of being used to put down and verbally abuse others is a very satisfying way to exercise that right.

Some people, like myself, have jobs and kids, man. Some of us don't have the luxury to have more than one designated time of the day to spend maybe 30 minutes to play the game that we love and throw down a few forum posts. But I tell you those people are often the best players cause they have the discipline to make that time to practice a fun game they love. And that means you will have potentially some excellent competitors who will greatly challenge your skill and thus help you become a better player. Not always but that sound like some good BS to flick at you. :)

To be honest though...I am a high school teacher so I can sneak a play once in a while at work. :P
