What have you walked away from?

For those of us who refuse to resign from a game, any game, even a live game, I was just wondering what real world random (or not so random) events have come up that you just had to miss because you refused to resign and a live game continued way longer than you thought it would?

Mod request: change deadlines?

I've got a private game with some friends, and we originally set it up with 7-day deadlines. We'd like to change it to 4-day deadlines to enforce a slightly faster pace of play. Can a moderator change the setting for us?

Mods: Unpause request?

Hi mods,

In gameID=49540, Germany requested a pause and said he'd unpause on Monday. If Tuesday rolls around on the International Date line and it's still paused, is there any chance the game could be unpaused?

I couldn't seem to find this question answered anywhere, so I'll ask all you experts (This is my return to Diplomacy after a long absence).

Question 1

Unit A is moving.
Unit B is supporting A's move.
Unit C is supporting B to Hold (which it isn't)

Unit B is attacked - does C's support to Hold then kick in?
I'm assuming yes. Since the rules state that if B is supporting and attacked it must "Hold".

Question 2

Unit A is given a Move order that is most likely going to fail
Unit B is supporting A to Hold - again not what it's doing.

Unit A fails to move, does it receive the Unit B support to Hold?

It checks the order the unit is given. Anything other than a move order allows you to support hold.

You can support hold a unit that is: support moving, support holding, holding, or convoying another unit.

to clarify though in Question 1, unit B's support to A is still cut. The support hold just adds to the support to keep it from being dislodged.

re Q2 - the rules clearly state that any unit attempting to move will be counted as moving whether it succeeds or not.

Is there a website out there that allows for simulation of Diplomacy orders? Something like a sandbox mode?

I've heard of a program called jdip that does that, but I don't know where to find it.

The mechanics of this game are really simple, so anyone aiming to be any good at this should be able to figure out all possible moves and the respective outcomes in their head. It takes some experience obviously, but you really don't need outside tools.
