eCigarettes
So, my cousin came to visit and he's close to being a chain smoker. While visiting, he was using an eCigarette, which he said was pretty decent. Do people think these will start becoming more popular than cigarettes? Do people think eCigarettes will cause a resurgence of smoking in newer generations?

Bans
So, just a general curiosity question: what are the different ban reasons and their explanations? I know by now what multis and metagaming are, and that users can have their account frozen if they die, but, for example, what is an auto, and how does it work? Are there any other unusual ban reasons? I think I've seen other ones I didn't understand before, but I don't remember them now

Is Plura still around?
I noticed a comment on it under FAQ>Bugs, but it directs me to an additional section which I can't find.

Not sure if I'm still just opted out or if Kestas did away with it.

An Immodest Proposal Or, Why We Can't Have Nice Things (Or Threads)
Most every time those of us who actually want to have a level-headed, mature, adult conversation about a topic regarding politics, religion, or pretty much anything in general, certain radical, dogmatic, absolutist fanatics seem to come along and hijack the threads and drive them straight into the ground with immature, infantile, and utterly worthless posts that completely derail the thread, denouncing any and all who disagree and ruining the integrity of the Forum. So...

Ender's Shame--Orson Scott Card, Homophobia, and...Hamlet?
WOW. I'm an idiot. For someone who devotes so much time to literature...WOW did I miss that one...I read "Ender's Game" years ago, never thought anything more of it or of Scott Card, except to praise him occasionally for what I thought (and still think) was some good writing that might just be canonized someday...but WOW--Orson Scott Card. Huge Homophobe. I'm extremely disappointed to hear that, and hear it so far after the fact, and that he's taken that into HAMLET...

Otherwise known as socialism vs capitalism.

I'm going to remain silent and neutral on this one, at least for now. I am leaning towards capitalism though right now.

Some homework help please?
I should know how to do this, but for some reason I can't remember for the life of me what I should do for the first step. So, the problem is: Find the limit as x approaches 1 of (x-1)/((((x^2)+3)^0.5) - 2). I tried to multiply by the conjugate of the denominator to get rid of the root down there, but that seemed to be a dead end.

They All Ruled, But Who "Ruled?" Best Kings, Queens, Presidents.,Emperors, PMs, Etc.
So many (WIDELY) different political takes here, and takes on what makes a good leader from a bad one...Best/Worst World Leaders/Rulers of all-time, then? (One thing--this is evaluating Best Rulers and NOT necessarily Best Military Geniuses, so with the Alexanders/Caesars/Napoleons, I suppose, gauge accordingly...certainly wars won can factor in, but let's not have it be the sole factor, eh? Also, battlefield success BEFORE becoming ruler doesn't count.)

Democrat and Republican Voters ALIKE...Anyone Notice...
That when something happens that lands one Party/member of a Party in trouble (case in point, the "legitimate rape" and super-secret-pregnancy-stopping powers Akin apparently thinks women have) folks will say "Oh, sure, attack Party A, well, what about Party B, huh?"
Can't we just agree, regardless of Party affiliation, that a stupid, offensive statement is a stupid, offensive statement?

Or when they simply off doing something else because they're not here all of the time? C'mon, it must be a joke. The US is neither a police state nor in danger of becoming one any time soon. Nor is the US government made up entirely of the corrupt and self serving. The people of the US are not complete idiots and tend to vote for people with competence and integrity.

I think Al Swearingen has made the most sensible contribution in advocating Education.

I think MichiganMan is wrong --- he seems to be saying that since there are no perfect governments ( or perfect systems of government ) then we should simply give up on having any government
It's similar with systems of Justice -- I accept that if you have a system of Justice that values the "presumption of innocence" et al then there will always be examples where a criminal evades conviction because the system is more concerned about NOT CONVICTING INNOCENT PERSONS
So my choice is I would rather live under a system of Justice that makes prosecution reasonably dificult, rather than one that makes prosecution easy.
A lot of blood was shed over many years to get a Justice system that values presumption of innocence, trial by jury, et al -- don't let fearmongers and the simplistic "Law and Order" propoganda brigade take way your / our Civil Liberties

you want genuine security -- invest in Education, and intervene in the "free market Capitalist system" in order to "share the wealth" by giving all citizens the opportunities to share in the wealth via Education

I remind you of the "Lesson of the French Revolution", that is when 2 % of a Nations population control 98 % of that Nation's wealth and opress the remaining 98 % of the population, then the opressed 98% who have the 2 % of the Nation's wealth rise up in bloody Revolution and slaughter as many of the super wealthy 2 % as they possibly can.

Oh -- in closing -- Brilliant win by Aussie Marcose Ambrose in the NASCAR at Watkins Glen. I just love the way your race callers pronounce his name -- we clip or shorten vowel sounds ( too many flies here -- so if you keep your mouth open too long,
in they swarm -- in some places you have to be able to talk through clenched teeth ) your chappies lenghten the "cose" & "rose" in Marcose & Ambrose,
it's so cute the way they say it !!!

I never said that I think we should "give up on any government." Please don't put words in my mouth. I ascribe to the notion that Jefferson ascribed to: "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."

Do you think that the United States government fears the People, or do you think the People fear the United States government?

I believe in the value of education, Major. But, as long as that education isn't a propaganda-filled stream of drivel designed around conformity. The US education system, at one time, was the envy of the world. We produced knowledgeable people who could knew their rights, and were willing to fight for them. Now we teach them to pass tests so the schools can keep sucking on the federal tit.
"The US is neither a police state nor in danger of becoming one any time soon. Nor is the US government made up entirely of the corrupt and self serving. The people of the US are not complete idiots and tend to vote for people with competence and integrity."

Man, if the view is that much rosier on the other side of the pond, make some room for me!

"The US is neither a police state nor in danger of becoming one any time soon. Nor is the US government made up entirely of the corrupt and self serving. The people of the US are not complete idiots and tend to vote for people with competence and integrity."

And you come to these conclusions how? Just because you say that the US isn't a police state doesn't make it true. The evidence is OVERWHELMINGLY convincing that we're heading in that direction like a runaway freight train, yet there are always people who refuse to see it, and mock others that do.

As far as voting and the American People go, you're right, we're not idiots. But, our political system, our entire government in fact, has been taken over, and we don't choose anyone -- it's a complete dog-and-pony show meant to keep us believing we're free.

California Team Needs A Replacement Player for In-Progress World Cup Tournament
We are looking for a non-live, full press, WTA player for the Full Press 2 game in the championship round. The game has not yet started. Ideally, you are a strong player from California. Failing that, lip service that California is better than wherever you live probably would suffice.

Interested persons should PM me.
