As far as I understand "Diplomacy" game is all about negotiation. But I see many games here with no chat - what is the point?

This Time on Philosophy

This is NOT a thread about religion. No affirming Jesus as divine-ergo-correct, we're just comparing philosophies. If you want to argue the miracles are somehow parabolic--ie, that the Bread/Loaves one demonstrates a tenant of his philosophy-fair game, but no arguing on whether or not he "did it." So let's play the Jeffersonian game and just compare arguably the West's two most important philosophic influences--Socrates or Jesus, who has the better life view?

Draug you seem unable to comprehend that searching a paroled felons bodily fluids and residence is in order to prevent a crime. In the same way forcing paranoid schizos to provide fluid samples to confirm their taking prescribed medications and searching their homes to uncover their planning of mass murder would prevent crime before it happens.

Lanza and Holmes were not diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Loughner was only diagnosed after his arrest. Please learn more about this disease before you proceed to attack everybody with it. What you're saying is personally offensive to people with relatives with this disease.

You provided speculation about diagnoses after crimes were already committed and the suspects were dead, from in at least one case a highly dubious source. None of the perpetrators were diagnosed before the crimes were committed, so your proposed policy would have no effect, even if you could show that they did in fact have this disease, which you haven't.

You passed off a 5 year old document as a current reflection of corruption. I pointed out a document in order to demonstrate that the problem hasn't been ignored. Context matters.

The Rhode Island police warned the Naval Yard that Adam was dangerous. It seems they speculated that he could commit a dangerous crime and issued and official warning. Your post lacks any logical or rational basis and is easily refuted by evidence which of course you don't supply. Keep obfuscating and denying Putin. It's all you have.

You seem like a nice enough guy, I just feel like you'd be a lot happier if you didn't take it as prima facie that the rest of us share your commitment to stopping every foreseeable tragedy.

Our motives are that we feel that life is best enjoyed as a combination of liberties, restrictions, compromises, safeguards with the occasional tragedy thrown in.

My suspicion is that you don't have the information in front of you pertaining to what else the Federal Police were dealing with that particular morning. It's easy enough to play Monday Morning quarterback, but it's important to remember that even when the system is functioning optimally, bad things do still happen.

I'm sorry that you happen to disagree with some of us on this point, but I would personally be much happier if the worry-warts weren't the dominant voice in national security right now.

For the foreseeable future, people are going to die of gun violence each and every single day. Until the rest of the world catches up with places like Sweden on the socio-economic scale, it will continue to be the case. I'd wager that being an alarmist about it is acerbating the problem.

@Emac - you seem to fail to comprehend that the paranoid schizophrenics have committed no crime where as the felons have.

In fact, the PSs are a protected class according to the ADA. What you propse flies in the face of the constitution and is *discriminatiuon* the same as if you racially profiled blacks as crimninals. Everything I proposed would take the passage of new law, and nowhere did I claim otherwise. As I said in previous posts, you can let paranoid schizophrenics go on conducting mass murder with impunity, but the blood is on your hands not mine. Also realize how completely reprehensible it is to hijacking these preventable tragedies carried out by paranoid schizo's to advocate taking guns away from perfectly law abiding citizens that had nothing whatsoever to do with them.

@Emac - Race is a perfect analogy for mental illness. Neither is controllaber by the individual and both are protected by law (look up the American's With Disabilities Act).

A parolee doesn't get out of physical custody unless the voluntarily give up their 4th amendment rights. A simple law would automatically institutionalize anyone with paranoid schizo and bye bye ADA. The law would allow paranoid schizos out if they were properly medicated and signed an agreement allowing random drug tests and warrantless searches of their domiciles just like a parolee, bye bye 4th amendment.
If they quit taking their meds and fail a drug test they get institutionalized. If you find them planning mass murder they get institutionalized. New law easily deals with the problem.

Since you have a keen interest in stripping away rights from a very defined subset of the population, why not take away rights from a subset of individuals with a mental illness that does actually have violent tendencies? Why cherry pick a handful of shooters when ex-soldiers with PTSD are twice as likely to commit violent crime?

I'm not talking about paranoid schizophrenics, you ape, I'm talking about soldiers with PTSD. Its a tangential question.
