eCigarettes
So, my cousin came to visit and he's close to being a chain smoker. While visiting, he was using an eCigarette, which he said was pretty decent. Do people think these will start becoming more popular than cigarettes? Do people think eCigarettes will cause a resurgence of smoking in newer generations?

Bans
So, just a general curiosity question: what are the different ban reasons and their explanations? I know by now what multis and metagaming are, and that users can have their account frozen if they die, but, for example, what is an auto, and how does it work? Are there any other unusual ban reasons? I think I've seen other ones I didn't understand before, but I don't remember them now

I noticed a comment on it under FAQ>Bugs, but it directs me to an additional section which I can't find.

Not sure if I'm still just opted out or if Kestas did away with it.

An Immodest Proposal Or, Why We Can't Have Nice Things (Or Threads)
Most every time those of us who actually want to have a level-headed, mature, adult conversation about a topic regarding politics, religion, or pretty much anything in general, certain radical, dogmatic, absolutist fanatics seem to come along and hijack the threads and drive them straight into the ground with immature, infantile, and utterly worthless posts that completely derail the thread, denouncing any and all who disagree and ruining the integrity of the Forum. So...

That has to be one of the most despicable things I've ever heard a candidate say.

HOW *DARE* he say that?

Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful...

And given how many women voters there are, I hope this guy gets his as kicked.

INFURIATING.

@Tyran male rape is no party for the male either, but see if I can convince a GOP member of that.

@goldfinger yes, excellent parody.

Men should be just as concerned with rape as women, especially men with wives and/or daughters. And this asshole politician needs to be introduced to the "ladies" of Shawshank.

Despicable. This is going to be the next "vaccines cause autism" meme that leads to all kinds of horribleness because of ignorance. These politicians have got to learn that the things they say are going to influence the perceptions of simple people.

Is it just me or is it just so coincidental that it's the GOP guys "misspeaking" and getting in trouble? I don't see the White House staff having to say "oh, you misquoted me" or "let me rephrase" all that often. What I do see is Romney and his friends playing with words that were never spoken. What's worse is that this trait of his is revealed by all of the national media and then Paul Ryan uses the "you built that" line in Florida trying to gain sympathy by using his mother, who, by the way, only has a trillion dollars in her pocket. She's not the target of medicare anyway. I don't get how 42% of voting Americans can fall for that no matter how much you hate Obama.

Draug, let's talk like third graders. A hyperbole is a numerical exaggeration that is impossible but still gets the point across. You have to know that to pass your spelling and grammar tests.
Draugnar (0 DX)
21 Aug 12 UTC
@bo_sox - YEs, I know what hyperbole is. And I knew you were using it. *But* your were using it falsely in this case. Paul Ryan's net worth is about $4.5 million, hardly the uber rish. And that money comes from his wife's side of the family. His side doesn't have any money and, in fact, they relied on medicare when his grandmother got Alzheimer's. So, yes, I poked fun at your hyperbole because she doesn't have this gob of money you are talking about.

Draugnar (0 DX)

For instance, I am reforming my budget. It doesn't mean I'm abandoning my budget and going hog wild with spending. It means I'm reforming it to meet my present needs versus my present income.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

See here Draug… you, krellin, Gunfighter, and most strong minded Republicans I talk to, here's what I say:

First things first, we're not about to agree. I'm right to me, you're right to you. Nobody else needs to give a damn.

Secondly, "dummycrat" is a really bad insult. It's not because I take offense as a Democrat, it's because I'm not a Democrat.

Thirdly, attempting to say I'm an idiot (or anything remotely close) because of my thoughts is completely irrelevant - and of course rude, but people tend to be rude in politics. That's why I hate them so much. It's like the classic mild road rager. Someone cuts them off or runs a stop sign and they are immediately an idiot and you don't even know who you are. Maybe it was Mitt Romney that cut you off, hell, who knows? He's not in the President's limos yet.

Fourthly, trying to fight me isn't going to work. I've been in serious fights before. I got a knife pulled on me once and I kneed the guy in the balls, knocked his knife out of his hand and pinned his neck on concrete in plain daylight. I know how to fight because I have been in a gang and know the drills. Fighting with words is a waste of breath because there's never going to be a knockout; it'll go forever if you want it to.

Finally, since I battle with psychology rather than flat boring numbers that mean nothing in two years time, I'll admit that I've done all of the above at some point or another. Doesn't make me a hypocritical person, but it does make some things I've done wrong. I have no reason to fear admitting that.

Don't respond with the typical "that's bullshit" ideology because the most revered names in history - not by me, by everyone - follow them as well. Don't take my word for it. Learn the way of a pacifist and crafter that knows how to fight yourself and they'll make a samurai out of you.

@eden and draug, read sperm wars, it mainly discusses how sperm fight each other to insure their genetic material is passed on, but, it also expounds on the idea that the bodiesof women do several things to prevent impregnation.

That being said genuin or legitimate are terrible words. The implication is that women who claim to have been raped are probably lying.
krellin (80 DX)
21 Aug 12 UTC
@smcbride1983....hate to tell you this, smc...but some women *do* lie about rape. That being said, the majority would never think of doing that...but it does happen.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/27/brian-banks-exonerated_n_1548823.html Here's one story....they are all over the place if you look. Somehow stupid people think that the instant a woman cries "rape" it *must* be true...Guess what, there are a lot of sick bitches out there that will use rape claims for their personal benefit, or to harm others.
smcbride1983 (517 D)
21 Aug 12 UTC
@Krellin, I understand that it happens and it is quite despicable. I find that rape and child molestation accusations become guilty until proven innocent. However, the quote makes it seems like the primary way to go about it rather than the rare exception.
Celticfox (100 D(B))

How about all the rapes that are never reported?
krellin (80 DX)
21 Aug 12 UTC
"the quote makes it seems like the primary way to go about it rather than the rare exception. " that is your interpretation, no doubted shaded by your initial dislike for a Republican. If a Demoncrat - say Joe Biden - had said this, the news outlets would be falling all over themselves apologizing for what he said.

This whole things is just bullshit political/news media theater and you morons have taken the bait, hook line and sinker. It's truly pathetic.

Have you listens to the idiotic, racist hateful things Joe Biden says on a regular basis?
krellin (80 DX)
21 Aug 12 UTC
@Celtic - sad, but a different topic.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
21 Aug 12 UTC
@Krellin Sad all the non-rapes that are claimed as rape as well then. Just pointing out there are many more rapes not reported then people claiming to be raped who weren't.
krellin (80 DX)
21 Aug 12 UTC
@Celtic - I understand what you are saying. The bottom line is this guy said *one* thing *once*...it was admittedly a stupid thing to say, but I hardly doubt this man advocates rape, as the idiots in the media and on the left are trying to suggest. and the spineless Republican party jumps on the band wagon...it's idiotic.
krellin (80 DX)
21 Aug 12 UTC
Also in the news yesterday…that NOBODY is speaking about…a DEMOCRAT elected official has admitted to having sex with an under-aged male in a rest stop. Where is the media / Democrat outrage????

Ahhh....the wonder of hypocrisy and American stupidity...
Celticfox (100 D(B))
21 Aug 12 UTC
@Krellin Anyone sleeping with someone under aged should have charges filed against him; Democrat or not.

Also, I think the reason that comment was so blown up was cause this particular Rep has pout forth legislation before to limit the definition of rape. It's just a sad scenario. .

bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Yeah, and remember that Bill Clinton never got impeached because of media exposure. That was all a figment of our imaginations.

Point in short: media cares about their ratings; in other words, they care about what their viewers care about. Same way every business works.

Ender's Shame--Orson Scott Card, Homophobia, and...Hamlet?
WOW. I'm an idiot. For someone who devotes so much time to literature...WOW did I miss that one...I read "Ender's Game" years ago, never thought anything more of it or of Scott Card, except to praise him occasionally for what I thought (and still think) was some good writing that might just be canonized someday...but WOW--Orson Scott Card. Huge Homophobe. I'm extremely disappointed to hear that, and hear it so far after the fact, and that he's taken that into HAMLET...

Some homework help please?
I should know how to do this, but for some reason I can't remember for the life of me what I should do for the first step. So, the problem is: Find the limit as x approaches 1 of (x-1)/((((x^2)+3)^0.5) - 2). I tried to multiply by the conjugate of the denominator to get rid of the root down there, but that seemed to be a dead end.

They All Ruled, But Who "Ruled?" Best Kings, Queens, Presidents.,Emperors, PMs, Etc.
So many (WIDELY) different political takes here, and takes on what makes a good leader from a bad one...Best/Worst World Leaders/Rulers of all-time, then? (One thing--this is evaluating Best Rulers and NOT necessarily Best Military Geniuses, so with the Alexanders/Caesars/Napoleons, I suppose, gauge accordingly...certainly wars won can factor in, but let's not have it be the sole factor, eh? Also, battlefield success BEFORE becoming ruler doesn't count.)
