The most talented diplomats
I guess I'm not the only one who likes wandering sometimes between players' profiles, watching their percentage of losses/wins/draws etc. So, judging by this percentage, who are the most, like, talented diplomacy players you know? Or are you one of them?.

We've paused a game for the weekend and one of the players didn't come back to unpause. Is there anything we can do to get it going again? The game link is:

A Symbol of Strength or Rusted Over: How Do You Feel About The Iron Lady, Ms. Thatcher?
So I'll be seeing "The Iron Lady" soon enough--first, because it looks like a good film, and second, for PoliSci, with my PoliSci friends, because, hey, I'll be seeing the Leonardo DiCaprio "The Great Gatsby" and the new "Romeo and Juliet" with my English Lit. friends this year and hoping for the best, this is just what I do--and it strikes me now...I know her more in the abstract than in detail, so, for those who DO really know her--great leader, or terrible misstep?

I just taught my 7-year old to play poker, and he beat me at his first hand of hold 'em tonight. (He had pocket queens and slow-bet me until I went all in.)

Does anyone know a Diplomacy software where you can validate if a specific move you're about to make in a game will succeed or not?

I was playing Texas Hold 'Em last night...
at a friend's house, there were eight of us, and I was dealt the three and four of spades...
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

We had been playing for about two hours, and since playing the first hand of the night (I had a six and a nine, won a nice pot with a full-house) I had not done very well, I probably had two-thirds of my original chip stack. The blinds were starting to creep up a bit, but I was all set to see the flop until the guy right before me bet triple the big blind. Damn. What to do. I announced to the table that I really should fold, but that if I could get a flop I could do some real damage, so I made the call. The flop: two of spades, six of spades, five of spades. Good times.

Fantastic.
I was playing last week and got a royal flush. granted it was 7-card stud (great game and nice change of pace from hold'em), but still awesome.

For 2 years I've played poker almost religiously once a week with my friends, and for the last 3 years I've played more sporadically at school and I've never had any straight flush. Maybe tonight is the night.

I played two weeks ago. Beat some friends of mine at Uni. Then I asked them if maybe we could play again; the night was young and we were enjoying ourselves. We lowered the entree fee so none of us would lose to much. Then I beat them again. Then I left. One must not push one's luck.

I played poker religiously ......... I lost but Mohammed made a prophet

Yeah, I'd say poker is a religion of mine, but my denomination is definitely Texas no limit hold 'em and I'm much more serious about my denomination as I am about my religion, as goes for most religions.

Thanks MM for sharing.

I had never seen a straight flush on the flop before, it was much more "exciting" than I would have imagined, my hands were literally shaking as I stacked all the chips I won from that hand, which seemed pretty stupid at the time. I got a guy to call my "all-in" after the flop, which was really cool because then I could show my straight flush before the last two cards were revealed, so it dragged out the excitement (for me at least) a bit.

Less than half an hour later I was dealt a pair of kings, and hit quads. I would not have guessed quad kings would have been so boring. Go figure.

Calling a raise with a three-four suited when you aren't one of the blinds is not a good play no matter how it turns out.

I disagree TC. As long as you don't do it often, playing unpredictably can give you an advantage. When your opponents see you win with high hands and trash, it makes it exceedingly difficult to guess what you have. Just make sure when you play garbage to throw it away before anyone sees it.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Nive hand MM, although I'm surprised you got a call at an all in off the flop. Must have been called by the flopped Ace high flush. My best hand ever was J 8 diamonds. Flopped Qs, 10 D, 9 D - straight with oipenended straight flush draw. Turned the flush (4 D) and rivered the straight flush (Qd). Took two others out with that runner runner. The Ad and Kd were both in it and the Kd was short stacked and playing in front of me. The Ad was behind me but about even so we were both pretty much all in. Only a $500 pot, but great hand and incredibly fun.

My next best hand was pocket 2s versus pocket As when the flop hit another 2 and the As were acting in front of me , I insta-called her all-in. She was pissed and called me an asshole. Turn and river did nothing.

Best and most fun losing hand was a flopped K high spade flush. I all-in and one guy calls. As high flush draw... I had $1400 in front of me and he only had $600, so I still had $800 left after losing it (2s on the river).

Of course, my addiciton started when my first time playing it hit 5 full houses or quads in a row (5 hands back to back!).

As far as the low-suited connectors, if your short stacked, they are a great hail mary play. If you are big stacked, then you can mix it up with them and keep your opponents off balance. Just don't do it all the time...
