The Top 10 Most Important Battles of All-Time
Pretty self-explanatory...if you want to try and rank your picks, bonus points.
I WILL give one caveat--all of my picks ARE slanted towards the West, that's just my bias...don't know enough Eastern Theatre battles to really include many, and those that do make my list are because the West drove back the East...so you can include Eastern battles--please do!--but I don't known them, so can't include them. Let the War of the Words begin! :)

Ha. What a bore. And I like defensive battles.
Apparently not... because those were two of the best defenses ever to take the field playing at full potential and making some huge plays. Every single one of those interceptions -- LSU's and Alabama's -- required some ridiculous effort to pull off. Both teams had multiple successful goal line stands.

And the defensive aspect of special teams was just beautiful (or at least for LSU). That 73-yard punt was outstanding.

I really don't see how you can find that game boring. That was ridiculously close.

So I watched the LSU-Alabama game right before watching my BSU Broncos. OMFG BRONCOS Y U SO BAD @ FIRST HALF. Gotta hand it to LSU and Bama; well played. Though there were so many just bad play calls. And I think Alabama would have done much better had they not flubbed the timeout at the end for nearly 11 seconds.

That was a pretty sloppy game. 4 missed FGs by Bama. Multiple blown coverages by LSU. Penalties keeping Bama back from a 1st and gal after an INT. Unforgivable 12-men on the field penalty keeping Bama out of FG range in OT. The 73 yard punt was due to Maze not getting a good read on the ball and failing to catch it, another error. Penalties sustaining a drive at the end of the half that tied the game.

Not impressed. I wasn't impressed with LSU when WVU racked up something like 450 yards on them and I'm not impressed now.
Come on Putin, you must know if it happens in the SEC its a "Defensive Masterpiece" and its only a "Sloppy Game" when the same exact thing happens in another conference.
cant wait till boise comes to the big east next year, gets 3 losses in conference play and the question will be "how did Boise get so bad!!!!!" College Football a journalists dream, where trophys are handed out on how well your beat reporter can spin a story.
"4 missed FGs by Bama."

The 44-yard miss was pretty bad, but 2 of the other 3 were 50+, which is difficult at any level and understandable when missed. And then one was blocked because our DTs are freaks like that.

"Multiple blown coverages by LSU."

Yeah, those were pretty bad. I'm not sure why the defense can't figure out the wheel route.

"Penalties keeping Bama back from a 1st and gal after an INT."

Hmm? Bama got 2 picks; the first one ended up with a blocked field goal at the 31 (no penalties on the drive), second one led to a field goal.

"Unforgivable 12-men on the field penalty keeping Bama out of FG range in OT."

With the way the kicker was playing, the 5-yard penalty didn't really matter. The kick was 52 yards; he wasn't making a 47-yard field goal either.

"The 73 yard punt was due to Maze not getting a good read on the ball and failing to catch it, another error."

Maaaaaybe. And I gotta admit that I have to make a retraction. Both Les Miles and Marquis Maze said in postgame interviews that Wing's punt hit the wire for the TV camera, which threw Maze's read off. So the punt wasn't *as* outstanding as I originally thought... but I wouldn't chalk that up to a mistake on Maze's part as much as I'd chalk it up to a strange circumstance.

"Penalties sustaining a drive at the end of the half that tied the game."

7 yards of penalties on a 3rd and 1 and 3rd and 4? Sloppy, yeah, but I don't think it was terribly egregious.

"I wasn't impressed with LSU when WVU racked up something like 450 yards on them and I'm not impressed now."

Never mind that they won 47-21 or anything. The ridiculous amount of yardage given up to WVU was (a) the product of playing a particularly conservative defense against them to compensate for WVU's spread offense and (b) clearly an outlier when you consider the fact that, excepting the WVU game, LSU gave up an average of 221 yards a game. And never mind the fact that the same defense also forced 4 turnovers against WVU.

I'm not really sure what more you want out of LSU to be impressed. They beat the statistically best team in the country on the road in OT (putting up over 3x as many rushing yards as Alabama gave up per game coming into this one), beat the impending Pac-12 champion or runner-up at a neutral site by 2 scores and have absolutely dominated everyone else. And they'll get a chance to finish the year with back-to-back wins against 10-win opponents in Arkansas and Georgia/South Carolina. What, out of curiosity, would impress you?
"Come on Putin, you must know if it happens in the SEC its a "Defensive Masterpiece" and its only a "Sloppy Game" when the same exact thing happens in another conference."

I know a lot of other people do that, but I don't. Next time someone posts about a Big Twelve defensive masterpiece of a game, let me know and I'll praise it, too. ;)
Also, out of curiosity, who are y'all's teams? I think Putin's a Buckeye, Warden seems to be a Boise guy... wondering where the webDiplomacy inhabitants' allegiances lie.
When they lose to the cowboys, broncos, or spruces in the BCS Championship game and I can watch a bunch of inbred swamp trash walk out of the stadium crying. That would sufficiently impress me.
terrible troll is terrible, plz to stop failing in thread thx
I'm trying to troll? I'm just answering your question...
trying to decide which one is the worse troll between

"broncos"
>implying that Boise State would beat LSU

or

"inbred swamp trash"
Speaking of trolls, I wonder which team Tettleton's Chew pulls for.
Oh yes, So laughable, not like Boise State trounced a team that is currently 5-1 in the SEC or anything. GEAUX TIGERS.

SEC chauvinists, so funny
Who, Georgia? The 5 teams they beat in the SEC are a combined 20-25. And to give you an idea of the imbalance in the SEC right now, the 4th best SEC West team (Auburn) beat the previous SEC East leader (South Carolina) earlier this year.

It's not SEC chauvinism... I would take Boise against any team in the East right now. I wouldn't take them against the top 3 in the SEC West, though.
And yes, the SEC is rather hot-and-cold this year. 3 really good teams that have a good shot at beating anyone (the SEC West trio mentioned before, LSU/Bama/Arky), 3 solid squads that would give all but the top tier teams a good fight at least (Auburn/Georgia/South Carolina), six teams that are complete crap.

I won't say the conference is bad because the top six listed there are a pretty solid group of six; right now I'm tempted to say only the Big X and the Big Twelve are on their level in that respect, and I'd feel good about how the SEC's top six match up against them, too. But the bottom six are so terrible it's not even funny.

"second one led to a field goal."

Yeah that second one was returned to the 10 yard line by Barron, but a block in the back put it back at the 35. That's when they hit a 46 yard field goal to tie in the 3rd quarter.

"With the way the kicker was playing"

You just said the kicker wasn't doing that bad. Most of those kicks weren't anywhere close.

"Never mind that they won 47-21 or anything. "

WVU had climbed all that the way back to get within 6 by the end of the 3rd quarter. The game was much closer than that score. The kickoff return broke WVU's back. 4 turnovers didn't help either.

"Im not really sure what more you want out of LSU to be impressed. They beat the statistically best team in the country on the road in OT (putting up over 3x as many rushing yards as Alabama gave up per game coming into this one)"

Well beating up on juggernauts like North Texas and Kent State will pad your stats. I'll at least give LSU credit for playing teams outside their conference, which is more than I can say for many of their colleagues.

Hyping that game as the game of the century is a joke. I'm not saying LSU is not a good team. But they aren't the best defense ever or anywhere close to that.

My loyalty is to Syracuse, who seems to be choking away the rest of the season after their uncanny demolishing of WVU. I support the Buckeyes too but I'm not much of a Big 10 fan. My watching college football is probably going to end as soon as this new conference alignment begins.

Yep I'm a BSU fan, it's where I go. As for a BCS championship game; even if BSU goes undefeated I doubt they get in.
California Golden Bears
Oh, and I'll take the 2007 Fiesta Bowl (Boise State v. Oklahoma) as a better game than this recent LSU-Alabama game eight days a week.
