Minor Car Trouble
So, I've been having a little trouble with my car and I'm trying to fix it myself without going to a shop. So far, my attempts haven't been successful and my internet searches have been less than helpful. I thought someone here may be able to give me some tips. Details inside.

The Top 10 Most Important Battles of All-Time
Pretty self-explanatory...if you want to try and rank your picks, bonus points.
I WILL give one caveat--all of my picks ARE slanted towards the West, that's just my bias...don't know enough Eastern Theatre battles to really include many, and those that do make my list are because the West drove back the East...so you can include Eastern battles--please do!--but I don't known them, so can't include them. Let the War of the Words begin! :)

Fresh Meat
Hey everybody. I just came across this site when looking for diplomacy tactics...I have to say it might definitely be worth my time. Since I'm a new guy at this site, how do I start playing a game with other people?
Go up top where it says "Games" and then go to "New Games" and pick one that meets your specifications. Or click "Create New Game" if you don't find one.
Err, wait, that wasn't right... click "new game" to make a new one. Yeah. Just do that.
And if you just want to join an existing game you can do that too. As you can see there are lots of options, from PPSC vs. WTA to anon vs non-anon and gunboat-full press-public press. Each combination has its own group of supporters

whats the numbers mean next to my name?
Tiamat (0 DX)

I made a game...now what do I do? wait? what happens if people don't join it :(
Alright, the numbers next to your name are points. You start off with 100 D. You bet points to join each game (notice the bet amount next to the join button). If you lose all of your points, you will be re-filled to 100 automatically (I think its you have to *lose* them, not spend them though).

PPSC stands for points per supply center. In these types of games you earn points based on the number of supply centers you have. If one player wins and you're still alive with 10 centers, you get 10/34's of the pot since there are 34 supply centers on the board (in classic map)

WTA stands for winner takes all. Image the previous scenario. Another player solos and you have 10 centers. You get nothing and he gets everything.

anonymous means nobody knows your name until the game is over.

gunboat means you can't talk to anyone (no chat), public press means you can only talk on global chat (everyone can see what you're saying) and full press is that you can talk to everyone (global) or to individual players. As a quick side-note, you can't PM any players who are in the game about the game, no talking about ongoing games in the forum, and no cheating accusations on the forum or in global press.

If it is a live game, it will start at the time you designated it to start at. If it is not a live game (phases longer than half an hour I believe? I actually don't remember all of the phase length options) then it will start as soon as you have enough players to start. If people don't join (it happens) then you get your points back and the game is canceled.

Players can't join password protected games unless you provide the password.

Also, call me goldfinger

oh...gotcha goldfinger...well I started a game, I don't think people are going to want to play.
they must be all anon games, because I can't see the ones you've joined. Some will fill up, you just have to create them several days before their start date, and have a normal phase length. 1-2 days for phase length is the average for non-live games

Welcome Tiamet. You have found THE best place to play diplomacy online. Have you played diplomacy before?

... I guess that must be yes because you came here looking for tactics. Good luck. The games get better once you get better known. The forum is the probably the best place to find good players (better than me). If enough people don't join in time start another game. I suggest you advertise the game details: hyperlink, phase length, WTA or PPSC (play WTA - it's much better), and points cost to join.

The Failure of European Socialism
We are living in historic times. Right before our eyes the failed model of European socialism is collapsing. The only question is what will exist in its ruins? The senseless youth violence in England, and the self-pitying protests of you Frenchmen do not bode well for the continents decaying culture.

How can a decade old accusation of sexual harassment against Herman Cain even be an issue in American politics after all the liberals dismissed Bill Clinton's adultery with a member of the staff in the White House as being completely irrelevant to his job as president.

You're France in S01 and Italy moves to Piedmont while Marseilles moved to Spain and Paris to Picardy along with Brest-MAO. Barring any real diplomacy that has gone on, are you more likely to return to Marseilles in the fall assuming Italy will attack it, or list a hold order assuming a bluff?
