How do you deal with people who keep fighting you as another player takes SCs and wins?
1st place has 10 SCs, 2nd place had 8, I had 6. 2nd place kept attacking me even as 1st built up to 12, 14, 17 SCs even while I went defensive. 1st place was eating 2nd's centers and 2nd was playing like an idiot.

How do you counter that? I wasn't sure what I could do. The last two turns I went all out desperate attack against 1st place and 2nd didn't even bother and actually grabbed more SCs while I put on a desperate push to stop 1st from winning.

Gunboat multis
Is it just me, or are you immediately suspicious of newly created anonymous gunboat games with only two people registered? Does that reek of obvious multi?

Look!
I know it's common knoweledge not to put metal things in the microwave, but I went ahead and did it...
Anyways, we need a good thread going. Someone turn this into a debate.

Metal is fine in newer microwaves as long as it doesn't touch a wall. My new one came with a metal grate for two level cooking.

+1 Draug. I was gonna post that same thing.

@Draugnar: My microwave is the same, but someone decided to tamper with it so that when I was making popcorn, it fell over and melted half of the microwave away with blue lighting!

I once put a smaller microwave in my microwave. And then turned them both on.

It created a time vortex. It was pretty neat.

Now let's turn this into a debate...
Leonardo DiCaprio isn't really that great of an actor...
Mafialligator (239 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
I think he's pretty good. He had a rough start (Titanic, Romeo + Juliet etc.) but he's made a string of decent to very good movies. He's savvy, he's learned what roles to take, and which to not take, which is more than can be said of most people. He's not brilliant, but he's a solid actor.
King Atom (100 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
I agree, he has made a lot of good choices on what roles to take. He has not however, been the driving force in making those movies "successful." He is fairly decent, but I've never heard of anyone watching a movie because it had DiCaprio in it.
Mafialligator (239 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
Agreed.

watch him in "what's eating gilbert grape". He has some chops.
@Mafia - how is Titanic a rough start? That is one of *the* best selling movies ever
mapleleaf (0 DX)
12 Sep 11 UTC
He means Titanic is gay.
largeham (149 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
The only good thing about Titanic was Kate Winslet.
Mafialligator (239 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
Wow maple. That was almost clever.
Mostly what I mean by that goldfinger is that I hate that movie. Although that's probably not a great objective criteria. More to the point, I just don't think he was very good in it. Very flat, and one dimensional. Though that may have been part of the writing.
It's pretty clear in Romeo + Juliet that he just has no idea what he's saying half the time. Which is a problem.
Jamiet99uk (1170 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
@ Goldfinger: "How is Titanic a rough start? That is one of *the* best selling movies ever."

Because best selling /= good. Titanic is a shit film and Di Caprio's credibility was therefore damaged by appearing in it. I'm sure he made good money but that doesn't mean it wasn't a shit film.
ulytau (541 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
Titanic might be a shit film but it is an example of great craftsmanship. Avatar is even greater shit but that doesn't mean it wasn't pushing the boudaries in some aspects.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
12 Sep 11 UTC
He was great in Blood Diamond. I like him as an actor for the most part.
SacredDigits (102 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
I ran a video store when Titanic came out, and young women would come in looking for other Leo D movies because he was such a heartthrob there. I always pointed them in the direction of Total Eclipse, because I'm a mean bastard.

It's a good movie, and he's great in it. The main plot of the movie involves his character having a torrid affair with another man.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))
12 Sep 11 UTC
Here's something cool and true: if you put a dorito bag in the mircowave and straighten it out as much as possible, it'll shrink down to the size of a Barbie-sized dorito bag and if it's a good enough shrink job, you can still read the writing on it. We did this in a high school class (unbeknownst to the teacher) and it was pretty cool.

I recommend using someone else's microwave tho because it gave off a pretty good lights show.
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Sep 11 UTC
Do you need to turn off the turn table? We are moving and the new house has a new over-the-range microwave, so I can destroy the old counter top one. Might be cool to try it out.

Now I have to decide if I want to use the old microwave in the mancave or shrink some shit and then get rid of it...
There are two microwaves in my dorm.
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Sep 11 UTC
Let's see. Two microwaves + dorm room or two new microwaves (or one new and one old) + two new fridges + poker table + bar + 3 bedroom ranch + mancave (with said poker table, bar, one fridge, and one microwave) + two-car garage that doubles as a workshop... Tough call. :-)
I has two new fridges. And a poker table, actually! And a car sitting outside.

...fine, you win.
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Sep 11 UTC
I have two Jeeps sitting outside (well, I have one and the wife has the other). :-) Sounds like we both win, PE!
I lack a three-bedroom ranch and a wife. I think I'm a little behind. :P
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Sep 11 UTC
So where are the two fridges and the poker table? Downstairs in the common area?
Draugnar (0 DX)

I need another fridge (mini size) for my office at work. I'm tired of my diet Red Bull's disappearing.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

The microwave we used did not have the turn table, so I can't answer that question adequately.
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Sep 11 UTC
The video had a working turntable and it did OK. Damn that thing shrunk fast. I'm tempted to try it with the chips in it, maybe a bag of bugles, to get shrink wrapped chips. hehehe
Nah, they're actually in my room. The fridges are mini-fridges, poker table is under my bed.
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Sep 11 UTC
Cool! So your dorm room is a mini mancave. Boy, are you in for a rude awakening when you get parried. Took me over 20 years to get my mancave.

@ Draug - *Diet* Red Bull? We'll over-caffeinate you to the point of cardiac arrest, but heaven forbid you should be fat when that happens. It's like some experiment to discover the most vile tasting substance in the universe gone horribly right.

Diabetics can't have sugar, Mafia. It's targetted at us (and the bar scene where the 20 somethings want their "bombs" but want to keep their figures too).

And you should try Rock Star or Monster. Different tastes that you might like. And they have diet versions too.
Mafialligator (239 D)
12 Sep 11 UTC
Nah, I react poorly to caffeine. If I have more than one cup of coffee in the morning I start twitching randomly. And fair enough on the diabetic thing.
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Sep 11 UTC
Caffeine is my afternoon salvation. I just had to fix a typo there. I typed "slavation" which probably explains why I need so much caffeine.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Coffee is better for you than are energy drinks. My brother is addicted to diet Monster I am trying to get him off it and onto anti oxidant culturally acceptable coffee

Question about muting
So, I've finally found myself annoyed enough with someone on the forums to mute them; not saying who as that would defeat the point of the mute, and I had a question:
If I'm playing an anon game with someone that I've muted, are they muted in the anon game too, or can they still chat normally in the game?

Quick question about Mods...
I emailed a Mod a few days ago about a Meta gamer, and I haven't heard back. I understand that Mods are all volunteers and have their own lives/games to attend to, but does anyone know about how long it takes to get a response (on average)? Or if I can expect one at all after they've 'investigated'?

On a side note.. has anyone noticed a stark increase in the occurrence of meta/multi gamers the past couple months??

How does the whole soveriegn debt fiasco look from your point of view?

I know that people from Europe sometimes find it baffling how the safety net is much weaker in the US than in their home nations, but I think we here find the level of tax evasion, bribery, and corruption in the southern tier nations equally baffling....
