Why does the United States still use the electoral college?

I feel it is outdated and unrepresentative. The millions of us who are political minorities within our states that are statistically impossible to swing are essentially left out of the entire election as much as foreigners are left out. This is undemocratic and unjust, is it not? If not, why not?

I notice that many games list some of their players as having resigned. However, the interface doesn't appear to have a "resign" button anywhere. So how do people resign games?

I'm sure I'm not the only one that experiences this, but the countdown timer is always inaccurate. Naturally, this is noticed mostly in live games due to the 5 minute phases.
For instance, the red countdown timer may say 30 seconds, but if you refresh the page, it will briefly show the correct countdown timer before switching back to the inaccurate one. Some time ago, the "real" countdown timer was something like 10 seconds behind the "wrong"one, but lately it's been about 45 seconds. In one case a few weeks ago, the real countdown timer was actually early (the phase expired while the countdown timer showed 15 seconds or something like that). This caused the game to process incomplete orders.
Anyway, and the point of this thread: what causes this difference between the displayed countdown timer and the actual countdown timer? And why does the site briefly show the accurate one when loading a page, only to quickly switch to an inaccurate one?

Sync your computer clock with an official reference such as time.gov

The countdown timer is done clientside in javascript and uses your local time to compute the countdown.

The brief display of one and then the other is due to the time it takes for the javascript to run. Similarly, you can see times expressed in UTC before they are converted by the javascript to your computer's timezone by the javascript.
