Why does the United States still use the electoral college?

I feel it is outdated and unrepresentative. The millions of us who are political minorities within our states that are statistically impossible to swing are essentially left out of the entire election as much as foreigners are left out. This is undemocratic and unjust, is it not? If not, why not?

I notice that many games list some of their players as having resigned. However, the interface doesn't appear to have a "resign" button anywhere. So how do people resign games?

Personal favorite:
This is from a PPSC game in which me (Turkey) and Austria had spent most of the time squabbling and were thus a few turns away from a German solo. It seemed like I had finally convinced him to turn around when this happened.

Me: I'm going to need a few armies if I want to break back into Russia, unless you plan on returning one of the Balkan centers, I'd prefer taking Naples myself.
Austria: On second thought, I think I'd rather smash you into bite sized Turkish pieces. This is not the way the game should be played but I'll maximize my score over a 4 way draw. You're right, PPSC sucks and I won't do it again either.

I was a total noob and still thought I had a chance at full press. I was England, President Eden was France. He used me and then stabbed me. As I was slowly sinking, we had this conversation.
