Multiple issue
I am currently engaged in a game where a multiple has been banned. In this instance the multiple has a combined 48 D. Players in the game, who have an admittedly weaker position, are asking for a draw.

I need advice improving my game.
This keeps happening...I get off to a decent start then I get trashed.
This is seriously affecting my GR and points (of course, I am losing).
I might need a mentor. Sigh, after nearly 150 games here.

Can a mod force me CD?
to be honest i'd like a force-cd on all the games i'm currently playing. but if not that, at least this one gameID=81266&msgCountryID=0
i just signed up to take over, but i'm an idiot i thought it was a live game for some reason. so that was an oversight on my part.
even if i were still signing up for non-live games they are not even speaking english there. can i get a cd?

Finding out the identity of Players who "Leave" and are then replaced
Having just finished an Anon game, we had a player who "Left". A new player then joins. A number of questions arise:
1. Is GR calculated on the original player or the new player. Must be the original player, otherwise this a way to manage the rankings.
2. But if this information is readily available, is there any way to find out who the original player was?

ok well there are no ads on it, so i guess that's a good thing. but if you're asking for donations from users, and running an open source project, then presumably it will listen to what your users want, not just what a couple people want. but what would you people really lose with an option to add a resign button, seriously? you don't like it, don't enable it in your games. but no, you all just need to force everyone in the community to do things your way because you are the upper echelon of webdiplomacy. bs.
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
the ironic thing is that if there were an option you would all probably enable it in your private games because you would be convinced that none of you would use it except for an emergency or something.

i think if developers are working for free and don't feel like implementing it, then that's fine. i just don't like the idea of not allowing development on it, if that's what's happening.

but anyway about that file on game results, how big is it? is it possible to post it somewhere so that people can download it? i am curious as to who is the best at WTAGB live. and no, it's not because i do well in them. because i doubt that i do. i'm just curious.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
28 Feb 12 UTC
No, there's no doubt about it. You don't come close on WTAGB or anything for that matter, and you are just annoying. I swear you are worse than KA and D33 put together. Nobody on here has appreciated your input. Please go away.
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
i'm serious about getting those results though. and as i said, not due to personal performance. or are they a secret?
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
in fact i am offering help here. i plan to run an analysis and post the results. there is genuine interest in wtagb live rankings. you can't deny that. and i will post them. or are you rejecting my free labor because you don't like me?
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
28 Feb 12 UTC
I have no say in it as I am not a mod, but if I did, I wouldn't trust you to do anything. I am rejecting you (though it is not within my power to do so) because you are a troll of the worst kind.
If you are a teenager, then let's hope that you will grow up and be a bit more mature. If you are an adult and you think that your "participation" in the forum here has been anything other than a waste of time, then you seriously need to have a sit down with yourself; more than one person has told you this, and if you can't see it, then you are just in denial.

Of course I speak only for me and not for anyone else. So that's just my opinion.
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
all the database information is publicly accessible anyway. it's just more convenient for analysis if it's gathered in a single file. so i'm not sure what the trust issue is. this isn't nuclear launch codes.

Since when are idiots the worst kind of trolls? Beating a dead horse over and over again is not trolling, that's idiocy.
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
and my posting wouldn't be "official webdiplomacy live wtagb results" it would be more like "hey guys i've ran the numbers and this is what i got, take from it what you will"
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
28 Feb 12 UTC
@uly, what is the dead horse here? Please clarify.
Draugnar (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
@bolshoi - Hitting the site to get all the data from all the live WTA gunboats from the past is a strain on the server. We aren't google and had to take up the collection to get us a dedicated server versus shared server time with other projects. We did that because the other projects were causing webdip to crash on a regular basis. Now you want to go and crash webdip again so you can run some stats. Please don't. But know that if you do and it crashes, I can almost guarantee Kestas and the mods will ban you from the site.

As far as the donations, they go to keeping the server running. Kestas nor the mods get anything out of the site and no one is under any obligation to pay to play. In fact, the only personal benefit to paying anything is the little icon. Nothing more.
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
what? i scroll through past games all the time to check over them. are you telling me everyone who looks through a few pages of past games is crashing the server?

i could do it over time anyway. i could probably scroll through on the order of 10 pages a day. which i believe is a typical load. i'm sure some really interested people scroll through hundreds of pages to be honest. i just don't see how that could crash the server.

but i wouldn't even go all-time. over a year ago in my opinion is ancient history. i think people care about recent performance. even a year might be much. might just do a couple months worth.
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
but i looked at classic wta gunboats and it was like 3 days covered in a single page or something. so an entire year would only be maybe 100 pages. and i don't even think i'd do the whole year. yeah well with everyone hating on me i wouldn't be surprised if you were all looking for an excuse to ban me.
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
actually now that i think about there are thousands of page requests made in a single live game. particularly since there's no auto-refresh (another needed feature) so people keep refreshing constantly. so if you think a couple hundred pages of past games will crash the server, you don't know how servers work.
ulytau (541 D)
28 Feb 12 UTC
The dead horse is spending 15 pages discussing stuff you don't get without moving anywhere. You are not trolling if a fourth of all posts in a thread are yours.

No one hates you, bolshoi, that's just your overall lack of social intelligence making you paranoid since you enjoy victimization. Or any kind of intelligence, really. You're just an obnoxious idiot: not funny, not stimulating, not even cute like Big D.
Draugnar (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
@bolshoi - You are letting your ignorance show. Do you know what a DOS or DDOS attack is? It is hitting a web page over and over as fast as possible. It essentially crashed the server to the outside world by keeping it so busy it can't respond to real incoming requests. If you wrote a screen scraping sacript to rip through all the games and get the info you wanted, you would essentially be performing a DOS attack. 100 people hitting the server every minute is far different from 1 person hitting the server 10 times per second.

You obviously know nothing about internet infrastructure or programming. Take it from someone who has been doing it for professionally for 30 years now. What you initially proposed would have the effect of shutting down the server to the outside world, i.e. crashing it for all intents and purposes.

This thread devolved. Will you guys stop feeding the trolls so they'll stop? We have a silence user button for a reason.
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
that's funny because every live game i'm in there are 7 players simultaneously hitting refresh a bunch of times. so i guess that's a dos attack as well. you ever heard of sleeping a thread dumbass? you sleep it for some random interval that's a few seconds. that would be indistinguishable from what normal people are already doing. you gonna ban everyone who is going through those games manually?
bolshoi (0 DX)
28 Feb 12 UTC
i don't know what kind of server you have, but normally servers will only allow a single ip to get through a certain number of requests in a given time. which is why you need a lot of computers to get a decent dos. the only issue maybe (although not really) is if the requests were just so fast that they couldn't even reject them fast enough. and 100 requests would not come even close to hitting that number.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Feb 12 UTC
@bolshoi - You never clarified that would would be delaying the hits. And even if the server rejected them, all those hits coming into the firewall/router (thousands upon thousands per second if you wrote the script to multithread right) would be more than the router could handle. Again, we aren't google. We don't have a web farm set up. We are a single server and not a high end one at that. I doubt we even have a web garden set up to handle the equivalent to multiple application pools, although I can't say that for certain. The point is that your script *could* be a significant hit even compared to (basp) seven people. Seven isn't a lot dude, and there are rarely more than one or two live games going at once and if you are talking gunboat, those don't normally have the constant refresh because there is no chat and most live gunboaters don't finalize.

And I would ask you where you get your expertise? Do you develop web applications for a living like I do? Or are you an amateur who thinks everything on the web has high bandwidth and multiple servers with 8 core processors?

@NikeFlash, Ghost, who has previously published his ghost ratings rankings, hasn't had much time for it due to real life commitments. The ghost ratings have not been updated for the January games.

@zultar, ghost ratings are calculated one game at a time in the order that they finished. So if you played in 20 games in one month and lost in all of them, then each time the amount you contribute to the pot would be decreased. It would still be 2/35ths, but 2/35ths of a lower amount.

I haven't gotten to the second page yet, but gotta run and will check back on later because I know I have some other comments to make, should anyone care. Please pardon me if I'm answering comments already addressed on page 2.

after someone posted a message using my name as a noun, i decided to see what bolshoi means in english. unfortunately through google and wikipedia i learned that bolshoi in english typically means an opera, ballet, drama theatre and an 80's group from london. does this information raise concerns about my sexuality. and if so should i create a new account?
