World Diplomacy map balance
I'm in two games of World Diplomacy; one as China and the other as USA. Both of these countries have the same problem: They are surrounded by countries, and those countries have no incentive to go anywhere else because all the SC is bordering China/USA, and they don't really have secure SC.

Don't get me started on USA. All the SC a territory away from each other, unable to support. I know it's hard to balance a map for 20 people, but it's ridiculous.

Homophobia?
On a related, but perhaps more serious note, I see that Stephen Fry and his new husband have at a problem on their Honduran honeymoon.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/11672513/Stephen-Frys-honeymoon-wrecked-by-homophobia.html

Shoud they have shown more consideration to local sensibilities? Should we condemn Honduran and by extension, for example, Pakistani, homophobia in the forthright terms we use in the UK or the USA? I am not sure, what do people think?

Ban/Boycott Apple (Human Rights Abuse)
Continuing a long stream of human rights abuses, Apple is identified as a bigoted company again - and with it Apple users who support the company. In willful disregard of feelings, Apple disses the long oppressed Ginger population. Ban/Boycott Apple and Apple Users NOW!!

Hey, thanks for bringing up Apple's appalling human rights record.

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-31438699

But, I guess we can all rest east. Apple has assured us they are "taking steps" to stop using slave labor or warlord chain gangs to produce its sleek products. No word yet on whether it will produce more honest advertising about what purchasing an Apple product will do for your emotional life.
krellin (80 DX)
15 Jun 15 UTC
No they won't. Not while they are making billions as the world's favorite piece of eye-candy. How many Liberal mouthpieces couldn't wait to show their new iwatch of to the world?

Hell, how many slavish drooling liberals ON THIS SITE decrying human abuse this, calling for the firing of bad jokers, etc are all proud of their iPhone?

While such (Liberal) hypocrisy enables Apple, they will not change.

By the way, hundreds of companies we all use daily commit human rights violations. It's no secret.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Where are these liberals that love Apple and iPhones? NYT op-Ed columnists, whatever you may think, are not genuine supporters of egaliarian ideals. They're just left-leaning conservatives. À consumerist liberal isn' much of a liberal
krellin (80 DX)
15 Jun 15 UTC
Boo - of course hundreds of companies commit human rights violations. And the feigned outrage of modern liberalism NEVER goes so far as to cease doing business with companies that SHOULD offend then. I.e. Personal Comfort is far more important to most Liberals than their suppose causes. Hypocrisy defined.

Buy an apple product and show all the world that thinking is just not your thing. Lulz.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
15 Jun 15 UTC
Why liberal hypocrisy and not just hypocrisy? I don't disagree, practice what you preach, but why are only liberals at fault? Slavery is not okay according to our Constitution. If someone practices slavery and we line up for a mile just to try to be the first to buy their product (and subsequently drop it on live TV), are conservatives with an Apple product not hypocrites too?

How about Hershey's? They practice slavery. What about Nestle? They steal water in drought-stricken places. They contribute to government corruption. IBP products are made by illegal immigrants, hired from Mexico and then vanned across the border in company cars. Conservatives still eat chocolate, meat, and tea, do they not? And yet these companies practice things that any conservative or even any rational person would hate.

So we're all hypocrites, krellin. You, me, Obama, Santa Claus - we're all hypocrites. Own it. Unless, of course, you don't purchase anything from any company that outsources at all, because basically all of them are, on some level, breaking the laws of the United States, not just the laws of liberal or progressive people.

Hey look, I'm just asking questions...

It was liberal pressures, certainly not conservative ones, towards Apple that have brought about changes at Foxconn. Long way to go, but progress is a process.

Krellin is attempting to point out hypocrisy, but I'm not seeing it. I don't support à consumerist mega corporation like apple. They're hollowing out our culture, producing a trail of waste and detritus in their wake, and ruining the lives of laborers and their families in the process. There's nothing to like about them, least of all their cultish devotees and their attempt to craft a "liberal" image which, much like that of Starbucks, Whole Foods, Google or Subaru, is in fact a consumerism even more disgusting than, say, the naked greed of McDonalds. They offer the commodity of feeling good about yourself for sale, as if purchasing a product can somehow heal the world, make you cool, or fill the hole in your heart that only service, non-monetary production, and human connection or love can provide - none of which is for sale. To hell with consumerist slacktivism - it's a palliative "cure" which aggravates rather than alleviated the ills of our decaying culture.

You'll not find a defense of apple from me. But then again I don't self identify as a liberal
thorfi (1023 D)
16 Jun 15 UTC
So here's the funny thing about Apple and supplier chain: Please, *anybody* find me an electronics or even electrical goods company that actually has a comprehensive supplier chain monitoring programme of *any* sort. I really would like to buy stuff from other companies without feeling bad, but Apple are literally the only company to have one. They totally are not perfect - and why do we know that? Because you can go on to their own website and download the yearly reports, for every year since 2007. The trend is for improvement over that time, but they have not solved all the problems yet.

Everyone else isn't even trying to.
thorfi (1023 D)
16 Jun 15 UTC
On the OP though, bring on the redhead emojis. Apparently redheads are genetically dying out (although it turns out probably not really but shh), so we will need some way to record their existence for posterity.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
16 Jun 15 UTC
Like Thucy, I'm not a liberal. I am a redhead, though.

For the record, I don't own any Apple products. Partly this *is* motivated by their human rights record, but mostly it's because they're vastly over-priced, and not actually very durable. How often do you see someone using an iPhone, and the screen is all cracked and damaged? All the time.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
16 Jun 15 UTC
Also thorfi does have a point - certainly, Samsung's human rights record is even worse.

I take it from Krellins post that he is in favour of human rights abuses because it can bring personal comfort, thus he is not a hypocrit, merely a monster.

Please feel free to correct this assumption if it is wrong.

(I post this from an iphone, i own two, and i paid apple approximately $0 for them, because they are second-hand and were given as gifts... Also as a red-head, i've never felt emoji were discriminatory)

Proof that the Libtards pulsation of webdip is just a hate-filled lot of attack dogs.
Truth is, Apple is a horrible corporation on so many fronts it isn't even funny. But most is the Libtards around here will excuse then simply to attack me.... The same Libtards winners that call for my silencing because I attack people. Lol

You fools never fail to behave EXACTLY as predicted. Bravo, little dance monkeys.

You may now all continue your personal attacks rather than discuss the merits of the Apple, etc.

Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

krellin proves yet again, even on his own thread, that he can't have a true debate. He even starts it off with an attempt at what might best be called "conservative humor."

krellin, people wouldn't attack you if you didn't say stupid shit all the time. You seem to bask in the negative attention. Ah, the life of a troll.

@krellin

Who are you even talking to? No one in here is defending Apple. Your post seems like a robo-post - out of context in the course of the thread and in reply to nothing anyone said. It's as if you pre-formulated it as a reply you would use in your apple thread, regardless of what was actually said within the thread up to that point. Bizarre

I declare that according to his own rules, Krellin has been defeated and PROVED to be a hypocrite in this thread.

Thucydides post was over 24 hours ago, and Krellin has not responded. Since Krellin has proclaimed that not responding "for hours" is tantamount to failure, he has failed by his own standard. Thucydides is the victor and Krellin is his bitch.
