World Diplomacy map balance
I'm in two games of World Diplomacy; one as China and the other as USA. Both of these countries have the same problem: They are surrounded by countries, and those countries have no incentive to go anywhere else because all the SC is bordering China/USA, and they don't really have secure SC.

Don't get me started on USA. All the SC a territory away from each other, unable to support. I know it's hard to balance a map for 20 people, but it's ridiculous.

Homophobia?
On a related, but perhaps more serious note, I see that Stephen Fry and his new husband have at a problem on their Honduran honeymoon.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/11672513/Stephen-Frys-honeymoon-wrecked-by-homophobia.html

Shoud they have shown more consideration to local sensibilities? Should we condemn Honduran and by extension, for example, Pakistani, homophobia in the forthright terms we use in the UK or the USA? I am not sure, what do people think?

Mental illness vs gun rights
"Anyone with a mental illness diagnosis should surrender all of their constitutional rights, right now, rather than at all compromise the right to bear arms of self-declared sane people."

In between stabbing out eyes and large black tarps
I understand 1st amendment rights allow free speech, and I know censorship is a slippery slope to slimy stalinism, but isn't 'instant coverage' of news causing/accentuating many of the 'racial' issues we have nowadays. what restrictions COULD we put in place???

Continuing a long stream of human rights abuses, Apple is identified as a bigoted company again - and with it Apple users who support the company. In willful disregard of feelings, Apple disses the long oppressed Ginger population. Ban/Boycott Apple and Apple Users NOW!!

I Saw Something Beautiful Today
Today, I had the privilege of working with a group from the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association).

Roughly 25 children who suffer from MD came and swam at the pool I work at. These kids are amazing, and so strong. But in the pool... They were just like any other kids. Laughing and playing, I didn't realize that some of them had arrived in wheelchairs. The most particularly beautiful thing I saw (not because of its uniqueness, but because of my proximity) was a young girl named Brook. Brook and her caretaker were delighted to discover that she was able to walk up and down the ramp at the pool. At six years old, and being confined to a wheelchair, this revelation led to an hour of pure joy. I nearly teared up (and I am not an outwardly emotional person) at the constant smiling, laughing, and giggling that Brook produced as she was finally able to stretch her legs.

I thank God for this opportunity.

Because that is where I spend a lot of my time, and that is a place where good things are happening.

I don't need your approval and I certainly don't need to explain myself further to you. If you would rather read hate mongering, racism, sexism, derision, and other bilge, mute my thread and continue on with the rest of the forum.

I will move on to other threads and you can continue to try and fix your self-esteem issues by posting blog entries about your exaggerated personal life stories on the forum. Good luck.

I saw something beautiful today too...

(Fires double finger guns to reflection in mirror)
Hey KC! That's great to hear, keep up the good work. I was invited to put on a magic show today at a local center for kids with emotional and behavioral issues. We had a great time, they totally saw through most of my tricks but nobody seemed to care. I had no idea how long I was going, I asked the teacher who invited me "How long have we been going?" & she said "You've been at it for an hour". I was worried that I'd have run out of material within the first twenty minutes. Even then, I had trouble leaving right away.

I've been working at a day shelter recently, but I've been looking for some other charities. I've been considering something like the MDA but it's far out of town, but I might try it.

thanks KC

An interesting solution to fixing america's decaying infrastructure, plus it's a system where those that use road infrastructure pay the most, and those that use it the least pay the least; no freeloaders.
