World Diplomacy map balance
I'm in two games of World Diplomacy; one as China and the other as USA. Both of these countries have the same problem: They are surrounded by countries, and those countries have no incentive to go anywhere else because all the SC is bordering China/USA, and they don't really have secure SC.

Don't get me started on USA. All the SC a territory away from each other, unable to support. I know it's hard to balance a map for 20 people, but it's ridiculous.

Homophobia?
On a related, but perhaps more serious note, I see that Stephen Fry and his new husband have at a problem on their Honduran honeymoon.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/11672513/Stephen-Frys-honeymoon-wrecked-by-homophobia.html

Shoud they have shown more consideration to local sensibilities? Should we condemn Honduran and by extension, for example, Pakistani, homophobia in the forthright terms we use in the UK or the USA? I am not sure, what do people think?

I expected the 'big reveal' tonight to be Lady Stoneheart and the Stannis fight. I expected them to hold off on the Jon Snow reveal. I expect that they will shy away from the Wall in the next season and go back to Bran more. They didn't touch on him once all season.

Melisandre is at the Wall. JS is her last hope for Royal blood, and she has already shown that she can bring someone back from the dead - she didn't do it directly, but she gave the brotherhood without banners priest the ability. So she's going to resurrect him.

jbalcorn (429 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
We already have a character who has been resurrected by the powers of the Lord of Light. Of course the fact that Kit Harrington is NOT in Season 6 makes a direct resurrection unlikely. However...can he warg into Ghost? The book can be interpreted that way....
TheMarauder (1270 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
Strictly a show watcher here.

The show has set a precedent for the Lord of Light choosing to bring people back to life. Melissandre has been know to misinterpret her visions; I think she realized her mistake and bailed on Stannis to go try to team up with John Snow again. Why else would she be at the wall?

I'm a huge believer in the theory that Snow is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna. I feel like the show all but confirmed this when Melissandre met Snow and lost her shit over him. She repeatedly says there's power in royal blood. Stannis was only the brother of a ursurper; Snow could potentially have Targaryan AND Stark blood, which would make him basically the most royal person in Westeros. So Melissandre thinks John is pretty much the greatest thing since sliced bread, and shes going to let him die while she's 50 feet away? Hell naw.

Also, what the hell happened with Sansa and Reek? Did they decide to kill themselves? Or did they jump into deep snow? Personally, I hope they're gone. Ever since Ned was beheaded way back in season one, I groan whenever Sansa shows up on screen.

Oh, and did anyone else almost cry during Jaime's scene? If it had just ended after the hug, it would have been a really beautiful, uplifting scene in the middle of all the crap going on. But no, he got to be a father for all of five seconds before he had to watcher his daughter die.
jbalcorn (429 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
Jaime's life was suddenly going great, Cersi was going to be happy with him, he'd made peace with Dorne, he really liked the Dornish King, Bronn survived, and he was taking his daughter and her wonderful fiance home with him. AND she accepted that he was her father because...Dorne. so GRRM had to make his life miserable or kill him. Knew it was coming the moment she was kissed, still made me sad.

In the book, on of Melisandre's visions is that the savior of humanity would be human, then wolf, then human again, So I'm guessing he wargs into Ghost, then Melisandre figures it out and gets him back. Hoping. I so wanted to see Jon and Dani riding Dragons as they wipe out the undead horde.
jbalcorn (429 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
Of course, Jon's death is the VERY LAST thing that book readers knew that show watchers didn't. At this point, it's all guesswork.
TheMarauder (1270 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
Ah that's interesting. Those of use who exclusively watch the show don't know about the man->wolf->man thing.

Or maybe the savior will be Bran?
jbalcorn (429 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
Interesting thought. But there's no chance he's Targeryan - he's verified 100% Stark. I saw him more as Jon's Sorcerer advisor.
TheMarauder (1270 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
Does the savior have to be a Targeryan? I guess that fits into the whole fire/ice thing.
jbalcorn (429 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
I'm guessing that the fire lord backs the house that can live through a funeral pyre.
TheMarauder (1270 D)
15 Jun 15 UTC
Yeah although the Targeryans are from Valerya, while dragons and Melissandre and all of the fiery stuff are from the shadow lands. I think it's interesting how we perceive the Red God as good and the Great Other as evil, when really they're pretty much the same. We have the lands of always winter in the northwest and the shadow lands in the far east. Both are creepy places that nobody knows anything about from where magical beings emerge.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
15 Jun 15 UTC
Bets on who will plunge dragonglass/Valeryan steel into the the White Walker high commander to silence the dead and end the war at the very very end? I've got my money on Bran with the assist from Drogon.

I was quite disappointed with the finale, and I thought the season as a whole was slightly lacklustre.

They said no LSH because there wasn't enough room for her with all the action taking place this season, but where was all that action in the first 6-7 episodes? Lots of pointless Stannis interactions could have been cut if the only climax was having him die under a tree outside Winterfell.

The Dorne storyline could have been so much better and I think they should have made grander use of the Spanish sets. More time with plotting Doran would have been great. Alexander Siddig was wasted.

Did anyone else feel like they rushed so many set pieces in to the final 3 episodes after dragging out the story (particularly Arya, how many times did we need to see her washing dead bodies?; and Danaerys, isn't evetyone sick of Meeren's boardroom scenes by now?) for so long in the first 6-7?

I agree on Melissandre, she's a free agent now she well placed to do some resurrections and fight ice with fire (ie white walkers vs. Lord of Light).

Jon's ending seems a rather sour note to leave viewers on though. I feel like Hardhome would have been a more shocking episode to have that scene in, start the action earlier in that episode then have Jon return home to a For the Watch scene at the end in his chamber. Now the show runners are more likely going to alienate lots of GoT fans either annoyed that another Stark is dead or upset that the last hero/male hottie is gone.
Durga (3609 D)
18 Jun 15 UTC
Lackluster books, lackluster season.

Pretty sure Jon will be back though, they probably left both Stannis (although he's probably dead in the books now) and Jon ambiguous so that book readers don't crib about the show going ahead. Really sad they didn't have mr. #azorahaireborn warg into Ghost at that end scene.

The finale was pretty good for such a shitty season, while I was initially dreading Cersie's walk I actually thought it was a really well done scene (Lena is so wonderful and beautiful )': ).

Dorne should have been so different... The Sand Snakes were the worst characters on that show, and they chose to cast secondary characters over Arianne Martell (her affair with Oakhart or w/e would have been much better TV). Worst decision made by the producers, except maybe Sansa-as-Jeyne-Poole.

I don't agree that AFFC and ADWD are lackluster. They're slower for sure, and AFFC doesn't have too many big moments, but they're a good read. ADWD is my favorite in the series.
Durga (3609 D)
18 Jun 15 UTC
@pangloss :')

@chaqa they were not my cup of tea, I can not remember enjoying any storyline other than Bran, Arianne and Davos. Mediocre doesn't really cut it since the other three were quite good. It just really dragged on too long for me.
Mapu (362 D)
18 Jun 15 UTC
Cersei was a body double, which is kind of a bummer.

What they did in the finale was cycle through the groups in the show and create a cliffhanger in each one.

The way that leader of the white walkers was staring at Jon Snow as he was leaving in the boat made me wonder if he's gonna resurrect him.
