Being pushed 25km in a wheelchair
This crazy Dutch kid just grabbed me and made me sit in a wheelchair. He looked pretty crazy and I figured he was suffering from an overdose of earth radiation so I didn't resist. He then proceeded to run 25km over some very bumpy terrain, with me in the chair, despite my increasingly vocal protestation.

Running 25km, pushing someone in a wheelchair..?
It's one of those crazy thoughts I had. I figured I'd at least get myself informed. I'm now allowed to try it according to the council that matters, although I'd be forced to start in the back and stuff like that.
So I already have the green light in the bank, but can I even do this? Finishing time registration ends after 3 hours, so I guess I'd really want to run it within 3 hours. Possible?

Can anyone explain to me why Tyrolia wasn't able to push into Piedmont with these moves? How was the support from Venice broken?

Sherincall (338 D)

You supported Pie-Tyr, not the other way around. You can see it clearly on the orders list, here: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=146635&viewArchive=Orders#index6

I think this reversing of orders is a usability problem in the order editor.

The syntax is the reverse of common support moved, as specified in the original AH rules. Any seasoned player is naturally going to think is the opposing order.
2ndWhiteLine (2601 D(B))

Or you could, I don't know, read the orders. Plenty of seasoned players operate just fine on this site, and if someone does make a mistake, it only happens once.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
01 Oct 14 UTC
Other than taking a while to work out how to convoy I don't remember having issues with being able to read the orders. Mistakes happen, I wouldn't call them a usability problem.

jmspool is technically right.

For example, under the actual boardgame rules, to use an army in Kiel to support a move from North Sea to Denmark, you would order:

A Kiel Support F North Sea - Denmark

For some reason (I don't know why) this site words support orders in the opposite direction.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
01 Oct 14 UTC
The whole "Denmark from North Sea" thing is entirely a construct of WebDip and I'm honestly puzzled as to how it arose.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
01 Oct 14 UTC
Perhaps, but a cursory look afterwards is pretty clear about the meaning. And I think changing it would confuse a hell of a lot more people.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
01 Oct 14 UTC
Why? To change it would bring the site in line with the board game rules.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
01 Oct 14 UTC
And all the people who aren't used to it and have been around here for years would probably misorder instantly. I suspect that'd affect a lot more people than this affects now.

When you select a unit, you immediately know the destinations that said unit could support other units to. After picking the destination, you know exactly which units could move to said destination. That's why the game engine requests you choose the destination for the support before the unit receiving support. The other way around would be a bit more complex to work out.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
01 Oct 14 UTC
Exactly what Hellenic Riot said. Instead we're working on the preview, so you can click a button and see what your moves will do for your units only.
jmspool (100 D)
01 Oct 14 UTC
I'm not suggesting anybody change it. I'm just saying it's a usability problem because moves and support moves are inverted.

(One could make it an option to have it be one way or the other, but that's probably a Pandora's box.)

Having a move preview capability would be pretty cool. I'd love to review the design of that before you push it to the masses, just to see if there's any glaring design issues.

It's already up and running on vdiplomacy.com. We're just working on smoothly porting it over into the code here. Hopefully it'll be the first of many changes we'll be able to move over.

2014 Webdiplomacy Tournament
I will start taking signups for the tournament. Here's how it will be different:

There will be a cash buy-in. The amount depends on the number of people that can commit (and buy-in) to the tourney. If I can get at least 25 players, the buy-in is $10. This would allow me to use the proceeds to purchase plaques for the top 3 places and best country awards. The remainder ($50-$100) would go to the site as a donation for allowing us to put together this tournament.
