So I'm thinking about making a live world game but with 10-15 minutes phases. Right now I want to see who would join, it would be some time tomorrow around 6:00 C/T. Anyone considering it?
How much rubbish do people talk about Islam, I sometimes wonder if some people on here have any Muslim friends at all. Please share your most ridiculous Islamophobic stories
This crazy Dutch kid just grabbed me and made me sit in a wheelchair. He looked pretty crazy and I figured he was suffering from an overdose of earth radiation so I didn't resist. He then proceeded to run 25km over some very bumpy terrain, with me in the chair, despite my increasingly vocal protestation.
It's one of those crazy thoughts I had. I figured I'd at least get myself informed. I'm now allowed to try it according to the council that matters, although I'd be forced to start in the back and stuff like that. So I already have the green light in the bank, but can I even do this? Finishing time registration ends after 3 hours, so I guess I'd really want to run it within 3 hours. Possible?
Our game was cancelled and I don't know who would be interested in forming a new one. I would be, and if I remember correctly ckroberts and A_Tin_Can were both up for it as well. Please post here if you want to join. I know we'll be looking for at least one replacement for the new game as well. 100 point, full press, anon, 3-day phases, WTA.
"Neanderthal" should always be capitalized, you're missing a period at the end, and there should be a comma. Not sure where though. Should the title be "Use proper English please, you Neanderthals." or my preference, "Use proper English, please your Neanderthals."?
Your preference has a comma splice in it. Also I see no grammatical reason for "neanderthal" to be capitalized. Is that just some weird isolated convention?
I've never heard of comma splices before, and looking it up, some people seem to think it's okay. Is that really invalid, or just another fake rule like "never end on a preposition"? I think the capitalization is because "Neanderthal" is short for the full term "the Neanderthal man," which was named after a place in Germany.
It's a pretty real rule, and since it's exclusively for written English, I have no issue being prescriptivist about it. Sentences are sentences.
As for Neanderthal, I guess that makes sense, but it's now the official name for a species, so I feel like it shouldn't get to be a proper noun anymore.
I'm more concerned that PE seems to know my exact driving license registration number ...... it is D0UN33DH31PBR4H That has me worried, am I being watched?
I don't think that's a comma splice, since "you Neanderthals" is intended as an address and "please" is a parenthetical element. It's missing a(n appositive(?)) comma. The title should be: "Use proper English, please, you Neanderthals." It's still not a pretty sentence, though, and the elements should be reversed: "Please, you Neanderthals, use proper English."
"As this is an English language website can we not all try and spell the words correctly" should be written this way: As this is an English language website, can we not all try and spell the words correctly?
Also: "if you wanna use it then don't abuse it". The first "i" should be capitalized, there ought to be a period/full stop at the end of the sentence, and I believe there ought to be a comma after the first "it."
That said, I assume the irony was intended, and I do find it pretty funny. :)
Rather than a Reliability Rating we could have a Levity Rating for Forum posts, we could have marks out of 100 on the Jumbometer It's been warned to behave on the forum but you can't get a good Admin down :-)
ghug, I think the suggested preference is not technically a comma splice either, though I'll defer to someone with more expertise. A comma splice incorrectly links two independent clauses. That's not the case here, unless "please" is being used as a verb.
From his preference: "Use proper English, please your Neanderthals." He added an 'r' to you, making it so please is an imperative verb with an object of your Neanderthals. So, it's absolutely a comma splice. I think it's really funny how it implies that proper English is what pleases Neanderthals.
Wait, only on how good the English is? Probably not, though I'd advise against it. You should base it on how credible the offers you receive are, and also, I'm not entirely sold on the first year alliance concept. Locks too many doors too quickly.

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm ChrisB. Originally from the great Commonwealth of Virginia, I've lived all over the US and spent years outside the US in government field offices. I'm in my late 60s and have loved Diplomacy for a long time.
Are you a genius, but don't have the time to ball daily?
Boy, do I have a game for you! If you're like me, you know that you have a devastating potential but can't find a ton of time to play daily. With this game, you can kill people every two days without having to speak to the other wieners in the game with you. So what are you waiting for? Join this game.* http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=148249 *I am not responsible for anyone joining that I know in real life or not, as this is a game that I am only advertising online.

While planning for the webDip F2F Tournament next Summer, some locals expressed interest in a tournament this Fall. I'm planning on hosting a new F2F Tournament, the Boroughs, this October. This is not the official webDip tournament, but ya'll are welcome to come. Details will be updated in this thread and here: https://sites.google.com/site/boroughsdiplomacy/home
Why the Japanese don't go to the seaside in September
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-29429742 Interesting topic on the Japanese and the desire/pressure for conformity and social cohesion, "Follow the rules. Don't be selfish. The nail that sticks out gets hammered down."
I will start taking signups for the tournament. Here's how it will be different:
There will be a cash buy-in. The amount depends on the number of people that can commit (and buy-in) to the tourney. If I can get at least 25 players, the buy-in is $10. This would allow me to use the proceeds to purchase plaques for the top 3 places and best country awards. The remainder ($50-$100) would go to the site as a donation for allowing us to put together this tournament.
Any comers to a new game entitled "Autumn of Glory," with the extremely cheap buy-in of only ten points are more than welcome as long as you are willing to and intend to play the game. Details below.....
