Presidential Pets
Nothing against Obama, but I don't find his choice of dog compelling. Portuguese Water Dog? Kind of prissy, don't you think? And Bo? It's not a good dog name. Buddy Clinton, the chocolate lab, now that's a dog. He could have kicked the crap out of Socks the cat, but he was just too damn chill.

We should add Cattle to Michelle Obama's White House Garden. This, of course, would necessitate the construction of a White House Slaughterhouse.

I saw a pic and admit they did give it a really stupid poodlesque haircut. That is not typical for this breed. They are usually quite shaggy and supposed to be.

Nah. The Dog's got AKC Papers. He was born in Texas (probably to balance the ticket).

Although in researching that information, I came across a quote attributed to Barack Obama: "Our preference would be to get a shelter dog, but obviously, a lot of shelter dogs are mutts." I did not realize that Obama was racially prejudiced against dogs of mixed ancestry.

Moreover, did you know that Bo was a gift to the Obamas from Ted Kennedy?
Orka (785 D)
19 Sep 13 UTC
Bo is not important right now. The only thing that matters is defending poodles.
Why do people rip on poodles about being a sissy dog? They can hunt. Maybe just as well as the hunting breeds. But give a poodle a poodle cut, and that opens a whole new ballpark.
So yellowjacket, I challenge you to a duel!
Draugnar (0 DX)

I'll put my dachshunds up against any poodle, mini or standard, any day of the week! Dachshunds are short and long badger *killers*. they go down badger holes, break the animal's neck, then drag it out. Let any other dog try that!

And none of them are as awesome as Pointers. Now *that's* a hunting dog. Not very fun to play fetch with, though. Ours, you can throw a tennis ball, and he'll watch it land, then stand there stiff as a board pointing the ball with his front leg up, then look up at you like, "Hey. You lost your ball. I think it's over there."
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Sep 13 UTC
Shape that ball like a small wildlife creature and the Dachshunds will decimate it and you'll get back little pieces of animal shaped ball you retrieve from all over the yard. I wathed out youngest grab a bird that dive bombed him out of mid air then tear the thing to shreds before we could get to him. That bird never dive bombed him (or for that matter flew or walked) ever again. It's buried out under the pear tree..I love doxies. Ain't afraid of anything. The bigger the opponent, the meaner the doxie gets.
hecks (164 D)
19 Sep 13 UTC
Our pointer mostly watches. I've timed him before, 25 minutes standing in the middle of the yard without moving his feet once watching squirrels up in the trees. When he decides to go after them, he stalks squirrels like a cat. He'll oh... so... slowly lift one foot, wait til the squirrel's not looking, and gradually put it down again. I've seen it take 3-4 minutes for him to take one step.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Sep 13 UTC
My doxies would have cuaght & killed that squirrel and be tossing its carcass between them in the time your pointer took to take one step.

"Bush the Second, while being the worst president of all time"

That smacks of presentism, no? Presidents 13-15 pushed the country to civil war, Presidents 7-8 eliminated the National Bank causing a large-scale economic disaster. President 31 thought the presidency and the government in general was not supposed to intervene in the face of the largest economic crisis in American history. President President 9 was in office for one month. President 23 did precisely nothing. As did President 30. President 29 would have been impeached had he not died. President 17 was impeached, survived removal by one vote, and had his executive powers severely curtailed. President 37 resigned in disgrace. President 12 posed as a Whig while siding with the opposition once in office on every issue.

"topic here is pets I think but your ability to refer to US presidents by their number is indeed impressive."

If you can convincingly refer to presidential pets by number from memory, you will win the thread, especially if you use Roman numerals to do so.

@hecks: "especially if you use Roman numerals to do so."

Really? Everybody knows Roman numerals! Maybe binary numerals would be sort of a challenge, maybe, a little bit, but seriously, someone who can convincingly refer to presidential pets by number from memory won't have trouble with binary code. At least not if we just use the standard way (to my knowledge, am I right about this?) of counting binary and just use the corresponding letter in the alphabet, so from 0-127:
000001 000010 000011 000100 000101 000110 000111 001000 001001 001010 001011 001100 001101 001110 001111 010000 010001 010010 010011 010100 010101 010110 010111 011000 011001 011010

And now I'm tired. Just follow the pattern all the way down to however many pets the US presidents owned.

And tell me if I made a mistake but I don't think so. It's 1-26.
Draugnar (0 DX)

You have it right, but binary is done in groupings of 4 digits, not 6.

hexadecimal is much easier than binary FYI. Hell, if we weren't used to decimal it would be easier than decimal.

And Draugnar: I know, I found that out today actually at school, but I did that instinctively before that as well. But I didn't group them, I just used 6 digits so I could get to 63. Then I found out I said 1-127 after I posted. I foolishly hoped no one noticed lolz... On the other hand, how you group them shouldn't matter too much. The only reason you don't group them per 6 digits is presumably because it's harder to figure out that way and I suppose because it's less effective in a program, and maybe because it isn't as easily connected to hexadecimal.
I mean, isn't grouping binary codes per 4 digits like grouping decimals per 3 digits? Sure you can do it, but you can not do it just as well. It's faster to write down but a little bit harder to read if you don't do it. Big deal.

But still, hexadecimal is easier :P

It's easier because it's effectively using 1 digit per 4 digits you would use for binary code, for those who didn't know. It's 4 times as short so a bit less than 4 times as fast.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
26 Sep 13 UTC
Also, Al, what's that supposed to be?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Sep 13 UTC
The reason binary is grouped in 4s is it is easier to read than 8, 16, 32, or 64. That is how computers handle binary hence the 8 and 16 bit processors of the past and current 32, 64, and 128 bit processors of the present. Has anyone done a 256 bit or higher processor?
