If I find the person who attempted to trick a member into giving up their password with this email before they admit to it I will ban them.

Agree completely with jmo and draug.

I'm just saying he convinced me that it is within the spirit of the game.

@Al - This wasn't a PM. It was a real email.
Al Swearengen (0 DX)

@JMO

Yes, sir. But you are an administrator. Unfortunately, you are *stuck* worrying about such things. Bo and I are mere players. We have the luxury of not taking it as seriously. I was worried about my friend Bo getting pretty worked up about something that, seen in the proper light, should be considered amusing. Alas. Perhaps I am missing the point.

BURN THE CHEATERS! BURN THEM!!
Draugnar (0 DX)

Maybe if I put it this way... Metagaming is using info outside the game and you don't get much more outside the game than using googlemail to try and trick soeone into revealing their password.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@philcore - "Can we get a new rule that makes threatening to sue a bannable offense?

Look what you started draug! "

You posted this before I ever posted to the thread. Anything you want to confess to, phil?
Al Swearengen (0 DX)
26 Sep 13 UTC
You know, I guess I see where you guys are coming from. I remember getting pretty worked up over similar issues at other points in time. I guess if you take the game really seriously, then it's a big deal.

how did the player in question figure out you email address draug?
PSMongoose (2384 D)
26 Sep 13 UTC
O.o

That certainly is a question. Draug's E-mail address is not on his profile.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Sep 13 UTC
It's all over the forum as the league td.
He posted his email address on the forum a few weeks ago.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Sep 13 UTC
And here is the thing... That they tried it on me bothered me very little but they could just as easily tried it on someone less savvy than I and gotten away with it. That bothers me more. If they were in a game with a player whom they had tricked, they could have been doing last minute order changes and effectively been playing two accounts.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Sep 13 UTC
One more note. I didn't post it here and would not have. The mods chose to in their manhunt. I would not have bothered if they hadn't cause it wasn't the forum's concern or at least it wasn't my place to male it the forum's concern.

Damn, the switch to actual injected insulin has mellowed me some. Should have done that long ago.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
26 Sep 13 UTC
Ok that makes sense, sorry I don't follow the tourneys so had no idea Draug was hosting one, let along that his email address was public.
ckroberts (3548 D)

I think we can all agree the worst part of this cheating effort is that it's a dumb and ineffective plan, right? Draug, don't you do web development or something like that?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Sep 13 UTC
Yeah, it was stupid to think they could trick me. A) the mods don't need my email to see the games or anything on my account and B) I'm a bit more IT savvy than to be fooled by a simple phishing scheme.
2ndWhiteLine (2601 D(B))

Back when I was learning to play in high school, orders were turned in on my global history teacher's desk in an upside down German officer's hat. If you touched that hat, you were fucking dead. The hat was strictly out of bounds. If you were dumb enough to let someone watch you while writing orders, or leave your orders somewhere other than the hat, or gave your orders to someone else to turn in, it was your own dumb fault. So in that sense, it is in the spirit of the game.

On the other hand, had I put a fake hat on the desk to collect orders, I imagine that would be would be met with a pretty swift kick in the balls and probably kicked out of any games I was playing. Taking that one step further, deliberately impersonating a site administrator to gain access to orders is not only identity theft and illegal by Google's terms, but it goes above and beyond the spirit of the game.

tl;dr Fuck Acosmist

are we 100% sure Acosmist did it?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Impersonating site staff should be against the rules regardless. This is *not* okay in any twisted or convoluted way. At all.
Mapu (362 D)
26 Sep 13 UTC
Acosmist was banned for cheating in a game and denying it to the point of beligerence. He had nothing to do with Draug's thing other than being a dick in this thread (as far as we know!)
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
26 Sep 13 UTC
@ Fasces - there is no suggestion that Acosmist was guilty of the offence mentioned in the OP. Acosmist has been banned because he was a multi, as per the banning comment on his account and jmo's comments above.

So Mapu, there's still no way to figure out who did this? Did they try to log on any accounts?
PSMongoose (2384 D)

I'm pretty sure Acosmist was banned because of this rather amusing gunboat game: gameID=100465
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Sep 13 UTC
Since the other player in that game isn't banned, that's apparently not the case...

@ PSMongoose: please do not make cheating accusations in the forum.

@draug, my suggestion was for making the threat of lawsuit a bannable offence after acomists threat.

The "see what you started" comment referred to your multiple threats to sue the site, or individual members or mods, etc.

It had nothing to do with the OP. I know, big surprise that I would post something off-topic, right?

Presidential Pets
Nothing against Obama, but I don't find his choice of dog compelling. Portuguese Water Dog? Kind of prissy, don't you think? And Bo? It's not a good dog name. Buddy Clinton, the chocolate lab, now that's a dog. He could have kicked the crap out of Socks the cat, but he was just too damn chill.

This is an amazingly detailed set of quizzes set up by one of our top gunboat players, Rokakoma. I'd challenge everyone to try and figure them all out. Hopefully we can get some or all of these added to the site help eventually.

Hello all, I am leaving this game as I haven't had time for it and really haven't been interested in playing given my current priorities in real life. I would like it if someone would take over the one game I am still in, as the other players don't deserve to have a player CD. Please message me if you are interested in taking over a standard message anon game with long phases.
Thanks and goodbye!

Going AWOL
Does the system keep track of how many times a person ditches a game and goes AWOL? I think that should be part of each player's stats. I know nobody likes losing, but I think if you signed up for a game then see it out to the end.

Things i think are missing in the site
I think it could be useful to have a search bar so we can search for specific information on tactics or strategies, etc.
The forum grows every day and i remember conversations wich is getting harder to find but can be of use.
also can be nice to have some record of who created each game, but i am not sure about it.

We kick off the week tonight with Andy Reid's return to Philly in a surprisingly-interesting Chiefs/Eagles match up. Then, Sunday, comes a host of playoff and contending teams with 1-1 or 0-2 records looking to right the ship. Lions and Redskins in a game both need...Colts and Niners in a game already-important for each team's division title hopes...the 0-2 Steelers and 2-0 Bears each with something to prove...who hits their stride, who stumbles--PICK 'EM!

The 6 Weirdest Things We've Learned Since 9/11
It's been a long time since I've liked an article enough to want to cut and paste it somewhere in it's entirety. But anyways, doing that would probably create copyright issues. So instead I'll just post the first paragraph, and then helpfully a link to the rest of the article. Hope you enjoy!
