Bible question: Which bits of the Old Testament still apply?
The bible is confusing... but thankfully this forum is frequented by many expert theologists who I'm sure can help me here. This is not a troll thread, I have an honest question on a matter which genuinely confuses me.

Around the World Gunboat Tournament EoG, Game 13
gameID=104130

Currently working on my EoG. The short version is that this game is a textbook example of how an unbelievably good start can get completely shut down by guessing wrong many, many times.

I just graduated college and have a job
After hearing I got accepted for the position, I find two omens
1) Our rose bush bloomed a dozen roses. Never has this bush given us more than one flower since we moved in years ago
2) I find the first ever dead rotting bird in our yard.
How do I read this??

I've got just one world game on the go, 3 day phases, full press. I'm away from Thursday 30th to Monday 10th June. Would anybody care to stop this CD'ing? Not too concerned about winning.

Oh, Arizona...There's Just No END To Your Minority-Attacking Antics!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-21870064 Aaaaand on today's episode of "Arizona Gone Insane," the state legislature, led by GOP lawmaker John Kavanagh, is pushing for a bill that would require transgendered individuals to show their ID before using a public restroom. "For a handful of people to make everyone else uncomfortable just makes no sense," said Kavanagh. Terribly sorry that protecting minority rights makes Mr. Kavanagh "uncomfortable."

@draug, chromosomes do not make sex, there are XY XXY and XYY people who may present as XX, there are many inter-sex conditions which show the wideness of the 'male' and 'female' groups - and this is only when looking at the body and comparing it to the chromosones.

The simplest one is androgen insensitivity syndrome - an otherwise normal XY individual develops along the lines of a female (breasts, vagina, cis-gendered, hetro/homo-sexuality) because the testosterone (and derived androgen) have no effect on her development due to androgen insensitivity... Nobody know she is XY unless she is tested.

So what the fuck does the chromosonal basis have to do with either Sex or Gender?

You said it was genetic, not me. Now you say it isn't genetic. Make up your mind. Also, are we talking about gender or sex? You used both in the last post. Make up your mind.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

Yes, it is genetic.

'the wrong chromasone pairs' - that references the XY/XX chromosome pair, if i'm not misunderstanding you. (ignoring those copying errors which give chromosome triples, sometimes even quadruples)

My point is, it is not so simple as to say this XX person is female, that chromosome pair *usually* indicates sex, but not gender (we don't know what genes are related to gender just that it has an effect) But even the simple XX/XY understanding of sex is too simple...

You can't say 'still have the wrong chromosones' because there is no right, there is just the common and uncommon phenotype. Our greater genetic diversity and the survival of more humans has increased diversity of people. This is a strength for the species as a whole.

I never said 'wrong pair'. You read what you wanted to read. Don't put words in my mouth. I asked you what chromosone pairs led to gender indentity as you claim it is genetic. You waffle and try to make me sound like a bigot by adding the word wrong which actually says more about your mindset than mine because I never used the word wrong. So which pair or pairs is it? If you can't point them out then you can't speak for certainty to even a small degree that it is genetic, not even to some percentage much less "60%".
orathaic (1009 D(B))

ok, Chromosomes are something you brought up. Saying something is genetic does not mean i was talking about Chromosomes, but i think that is just a misunderstanding between us in the use of that word.

A Chromosomes is a package of dna (between ~16 mm long and 85 mm long, but not stretched out like that, it is packaged up rather tightly, and the chromosome is the name of the package)

What you want to talk about is probably genes. Specific sections of DNA which code for proteins, which do the general work of every bodily function... and NO i can't tell you which gene is involved, though it is likely that there are several genes which work (along with other 'junk DNA' which regulate, but don't code directly) to map out the development of gender identity (and the structures in the brain which are setup for this.)

But you're entirely wrong in saying that i can't speak for the certainty.

We are very lucky to have experiments which involving twins to do just that. Identical twins raised apart give us the ability to contrast the different impact environment and genetic components have on development.

Likewise it is possible to compare identical twins, non-identical twins and siblings (who are genetically as similar as non-identical twins, but didn't share the same womb at the same time, which is considered an 'environmental' effect) - this lets you look at the percentage of siblings where one is trans-gendered, and then see how likely it is that a brother or sister will be. Contrasted with that chance for non-identical twins, and identical twins, gives us a rather decent idea which factors have the largest impact.

And as this is a statistical analysis, it is only a limited estimate, but with enough candidates you can get a decent percentage.

OK, then. But you agree I never said "wrong" anywhere in the conversation. I've talked numerous times of my best friend (who died some years back) being gay.

I respect all people but believe that the majority of women and the protection of our young outweigh the rights of fewer than 1% of the population to change in a ladies' lockerroom. I'm less concerned with restrooms as they, as has been mentioned, usually are enclosed stalls in ladies' rooms.

And yes, I would have the same concern with a woman living as a man changing in a mens' locker room. In fact, I think it would be less safe in some instances for the physical female changing in the mens' room.

what i was quoting was this sentence 'It isn't a cure as they are still genetically consisting of the wrong chromasone pairs'

and i jumped to assume that you were saying the 'right' pair of chromosomes (for a female) is XX or (for a male) XY. (as opposed to the most common expression of those Chromosome pairs)

I apologise if i mis-characterised what you said, i may have mis-understood what you meant.

Just on this changing room issue, is it ok for a child of one sex to go with a parent of the opposite sex into a changing room?

WTA, No messaging, Anonymous Game
Russia and Turkey both left the game and Austria is expanding quickly. I feel in a Winner Takes All match, it is unfair for a player to win because the biggest contenders to a country left. It is like Germany and France leaving with a player as England. Turkey and Russia both have 3 SCs.
