Bowhunting for bears
Anyone gone bowhunting for bears?

Does a person who advocates capital punishment for humans who kill other humans not value human life?

Why would you concoct such a strawman, Mr. Intellectual Honesty?

Uh, capital punishment is often taken to be wrong. Most states don't do any, and some have outlawed it. Anyway, you suggested capital punishment for murder for bears. Murder for humans almost never actually carries the penalty. I. E. You value bear life over human life.

You advocate for capital punishment... Look in the North Korea thread.

@Putin33

"Does a person who advocates capital punishment for humans who kill other humans not value human life?"

That's a very debatable question.

Here's an easier one:

Q: Does a person who advocates capital punishment for humans who kill bears not value human life?

A: At a value less than or equal to *a bear*. Because a bear is a "great animal", I guess, more worthy of life than a potential political rival.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

This is taken way out of proportion...

I just wonder what fun there's to be had killing a bear? I wouldn't quite like the blood on my hands, as a matter of speaking.

I have no idea what the point of bear hunting is either.

What do you even do with the bear? You'd need a forklift to move it.

How did I know this thread would become a Putin battle?
phil_a_s (0 DX)

Because it involves bears? Because it is a thread on this forum? Honestly, few threads don't become a Putin battle.
I think the idea of killing a bear is that you use him as a bow to kill more bears. There, back on track.

I'm just surprised no one has said that you should only kill polar bears since they're white but black bears are off limits because they're black.

People actually aren't sure if bears hibernate or not, since it's so different from how other animals spend the winter.

"A: At a value less than or equal to *a bear*. Because a bear is a "great animal", I guess, more worthy of life than a potential political rival."

This was pure gibberish. But nice dodge, anyway.

I'm glad to see Santa is opposed to treason as a capital offense. I'm sure he thinks the same way in contexts other than North Korea.

Dogging invictus for his support of capital punishment while cheerleading for Kim's political house cleaning doesn't seem contradictory to you?
tendmote (100 D(B))

@Putin33 Dodge of what? You asked whether someone who values human life would support capital punishment, I said that's debatable. That has little to do with executing someone for killing a bear though. I think it's safe to say that execution for bear-killing under-values the life of the human. Don't you? Maybe I misunderstood your mumblings.

I don't bowhunt for bears, but I have bearhunted for bows on occasion. I put on a bear costume and go out in the woods and scare the crap out of some bow hunters and if I'm lucky they drop their bow. You have to sneak up on them to scare them that much though so it is very tricky. Gotten some nice bows though.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

"I think it's safe to say that execution for bear-killing under-values the life of the human"

No, I don't think it's safe to say that. How much do you think humans should be valued? They should be able to murder whatever species they wish without punishment, is that your position? Everything on this planet is just a commodity to be exploited for human whims?

I think your view grossly undervalues all other forms of life.
tendmote (100 D(B))

^ Wow Putin33 really does support the death penalty for bear hunting. Although I'm not a bear hunter myself, this punishment is extreme. I think most people would agree.

"How much do you think humans should be valued? "

A lot.

"They should be able to murder whatever species they wish without punishment, is that your position?"

Well, no, but how but a fine and 90 days for poaching?

"Everything on this planet is just a commodity to be exploited for human whims?"

Whims are wasteful. But, yes, humans are always looking for new was to make use of what's around us on this planet. Conservation means we use these things in a way that does not consume them completely in a wasteful way.

Now is bear hunting wasteful? You know, I'd probably agree with you on that. But still, the death penalty for bear hunting? That's pro-bear to the point of being anti-human. I'm not convinced the death penalty is appropriate for actual human murder.
Putin33 (111 D)
15 Dec 13 UTC
90 days for murdering a bear?

You get longer sentences for driving without a license.

So bears are just resources to be conserved, is that it?
tendmote (100 D(B))
15 Dec 13 UTC
"So bears are just resources to be conserved, is that it?"

Well, humane treatment is a moral requirement, but basically, yes, wildlife is a natural resource that ought to be conserved. I'd probably accept the idea that bowhunting for bears is inhumane, but the death penalty for doing that is ridiculous.
Putin33 (111 D)
15 Dec 13 UTC
So you're sitting here trying to portray me as some kind of monster when you think all non human life forms are commodities.

Take a hike.
Invictus (240 D)

So I jist watched the first Hunger Games
For a movie based on a teen book, it was much better than expected. Outstanding concept. Very good execution. Even the required teen "love triangle" seems more like a potential misunderstanding and political ploy than the Team what's or whoever bullshit of the Twilight series.
