I am in a game (Man the Torpedoes!) with a bunch of friends/acquaintances and one of the users was just banned for metagaming. He is not metagaming (at least not in this game for sure) so how can we restore his access so that we can continue the game?

So I jist watched the first Hunger Games
For a movie based on a teen book, it was much better than expected. Outstanding concept. Very good execution. Even the required teen "love triangle" seems more like a potential misunderstanding and political ploy than the Team what's or whoever bullshit of the Twilight series.

Second movie is better

The media has played up the love triangle aspect immensely, provoking a fairly apt comparison to the capitol.

The book's better. The movies are pretty well done though as far as movies-on-books go.
daniyhungre (100 D)

I thought the fight scenes in the first movie could have been better directed. Too many cross cuts. They fixed it in the second movie though.
I enjoyed the books, and have been impressed with the movie adaptations. Books are almost always better, but the movies did a good job. I liked the second movie better too.

I did not read the books but very much liked the first movie. I liked the firt half of the second movie alot, especially the cat&mouse stuff and intrigue...but then I felt like the second half of movie two felt like a rehashing of the first movie.
Interestingly, fans of the books seem to like movie 2 more than nonreaders

My only commentary would be some of the names used like the wasps... What were they called? They could have named them better and, instead of doing the "genetically modified" thing, had them be natural and something she had dealt with before back in her district. Also, the bear-like creatures at the end. I hate Deus Ex stuff and they were to contrived, making them out of nothing like that. And the final obvious ploy with the poisonous berries... But I did like that the love triangle approach isn't necessarily real. Maybe he has admired her from afar but she is turning into a political figure and he already clearly knows politics. That is a relationship for their world's public, not for real in private.

It would make more sense if you read the books Draug. The first book was the best, 2nd was good but seemed rushed at the end. Just can't like the third one even after reading it a second time.
dkartik (158 D)

The movies are actually pretty good. I've enjoyed them both. The books were a struggle to get through, however (I have read all three). The concept is awesome, the story line for the most part is really good, but the execution in the books is not very well done. In my opinion, the movies have been able to capture and portray everything that the books didn't.
Hazel-Rah (1262 D)

I just watched the first movie as well. Those wasps would have swarmed her LONG before she could have cut through that branch. Such bullshit.

I have not read the books. Who should I be annoyed at - the author, or the screenwriter/director?
pangloss (363 D)

I have yet to see the second movie, but I have seen the first and read all the books. The first movie is a pretty faithful retelling of the book, and from what I've heard, the second movie does the same.

I preferred the first half of the second book because we got an exploration of the universe they lived in. The first book was all right, and the third was ridiculous.

I never considered the love triangle to be a conflict, though. (Vague spoilers ensue). Of the two men (boys?) Katniss could have picked, only one of them had sufficient characterisation, so I never really considered the other an option.

That said, as far as teen fiction goes, The Hunger Games trilogy isn't half bad.

What food is involved, or do they starve in the end?
I like happy endings with a big family together around the table and a lovely roast dinner. Lamb, pork, beef ...... any or all of those will do !!

"The book's better. The movies are pretty well done though as far as movies-on-books go."
Your joking right? Hunger games is one of the few instances where the movie was, in my opinion, far better than the book.

"Just can't like the third one even after reading it a second time."

You didn't like a book... So you read it again.

interesting strategy.

At Nigee - in the end, Katniss adopts a multi-racial clan from all the districts and they escape to an underground dwelling illuminated by radiated rock, which causes their new vegetable garden to grow like a jungle, and which miraculously staves off any radiation poisoning, and they live happily ever after

Didn't read the books but have seen both movies now. Like them but was happy at all with the non-ending in the 2nd one. There should be a law that when a movie leaves you hanging like that it should have to be rated "TBC" (to be continued.) :)
roka (156 D)

That should have been "wasn't happy"
krellin (80 DX)
16 Dec 13 UTC
roka -since the overwhelming majority of people know it's a trilogy, that should be a given (tbd). If I recall correctly, it's pretty much exactly how book 2 ended.

Reading the book was part of some BS project i had to do a while ago. Also watched the first move, what i can say is, book is terrible, first movie is ok, second is shit. The whole series is retarded and meant for 10 yr old mentality.

Jennifer Lawrence is still hot though.
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Dec 13 UTC
@ILN - I went into it expecting a typical fluff piece like Twilight or Harry Potter and was pleasantly surprised with a story line that didn't revolve around some ugly chick with way to high a forehead and plain face pining over a fake vampire (sparkles in sunlight? WTF?) and a vampire. Instead I got an interesting concept with political intrigue (albeit a bit simplistic but still).
Draugnar (0 DX)
