I think anyone who has the right to carry a gun and chooses not to exercise that right is foolish, but I recognize their right to *not* exercise their right to bear arms.

Innocence is not dependent on whether or not you are armed. Martin attacked Zimmerman viciously enough that Zimmerman had reason to fear for his life, and as a result Zimmerman wisely chose to be judged by six instead of risking being carried by six. Shooting Martin was by far the smartest decision that Zimmerman made that night, although that isn't much of an assertion since Zimmerman's preceding decisions were quite stupid. True, Martin would be alive if Zimmerman had stayed in his car, but Zimmerman was well within his rights to leave his car and tail Martin for a short distance.

Thugs like Martin need to realize that Americans are increasingly armed, and that viciously attacking any person invites the possibility of severe injury or death.

We don't know what martin was really up to. everyone is responding to that sweet innocent pic of his, but the judge withheld all evidence of martin's misdoing, so you don't really know. No one does.

If Zimmerman had seen a young white man walking in a gated community with a hoodie that young white man would be alive today because GZ would not have been driven by the social stereotyping that persuaded him that this non-white mam was in fact a criminal, before he approached this lad he had made certain assumptions and had linked this boy to robberies, because he thought the guy was black. His attitude/demeanour when he approached and confronted TM was not going to be friendly one, possibly hostile, possibly aggressive.
In this situation, TM goes into fight or flight mode and has to decide what to do, at a guess he got a bit nervous, emotions are racing, he was probably aware or became aware that this older heavier man approaching him is a bit fired-up and probably has a weapon as he would know anecdotally of estate security guards, especially if he was casing the estate.
GZ, despite police advice to the contrary which he ignored, initiated a confrontation with a teenager doing nothing wrong and in the altercation that followed he shot dead a young 17-year-old man.
How long before we get the book, the film, the TV series, the exclusive story from Zimmerman, you have a strange way of creating some of your heroes, Jessica Lynch and Amanda Knox spring to mind.

Proof? You have none and, in fact, are making a racist statement of your own. GZ was patrolling and didn't even know TM was black initially when he called the dispatcher. So you are makling and assumption about GZ that doesn't hold up to even the most cursory scrutiny.

The media lightened his pictures up to make him look white just like they used a pciture of TM when he was 154 to make him look like an innocent kid, not a scared and tattooed troublemaker on suspension from school for drug use. The one thing you keep getting wrong in all this, Gunfighter, is that TM did not simply attack Zimm. Stuff happened that led to this happening.

Draug: you do know the difference between a rhetorical point and a real argument, yes? The question is not: can you prove whether or not a white TM would have been put in the same situation. The question is: what does this hypothesis make you think? Why do you think we can still make such hypotheses in a meaningful way?

I am celebrating the fact that the justice system worked and that an innocent man will not have to suffer more than he already has.

Only in a strictly legal sense. 17-year-old Martin would have been no different than 18-year-old Martin. Would you be singing a different tune if Martin had been a few months older?

Killing people (use of the word "boys" invites emotion, which is unacceptable in a legal context) who attack someone within an inch of that person's life isn't the *wrong* thing to do. Remove all other circumstances and place yourself in Zimmerman's position at the moment that he chose to fire. Your head is getting bashed into the concrete and you feel yourself losing consciousness. You can either fire and risk killing your assailant, or hold your fire and risk dying. Zimmerman applied the ages-old expression of "being judged by (six) instead of carried by six". He was an idiot for putting himself in a situation where he was forced to take a life, but an idiot and a criminal are two different things.

Yes... Let us remove all other circumstances, especially those that would make it seem like Zimmerman participated in creating this life threatening situation you speak of. That sounds fair.

An idiot whose idiocy ends up creating a situation where a life is taken is a responsible idiot. That your laws have failed to recognize that should not prevent reasonable people from coming to that conclusion. I've said elsewhere that the trial seems to have gone as it should. But that is not necessarily tantamount to saying justice was served in all senses of justice.

As for the word "boy", I know you prefer "thug", which is not as charged with meaning and emotion.

THUG: In this case, I define a "thug" as an individual of any gender or ethnicity who, as a youth, has the balls, the desire, the physical skills and ability to attack an adult and get him down to the ground and pummel him to the point where he feared for his life -- thus resulting in your thug-ass getting shot.

I knew very few 17 year old children when I was growing up who had the fighting skills to do what Martin did to Zimmerman. I knew very few 17 year olds who would have had the arrogance and guts to attack an adult and get involved in a fight.

Yeah...Trayvon Martin was a thug. He was a "child" that was experienced in a fight, and had no fear of getting in to a fight, nor of INITIATING a fight. TM was a thug.

If Zimmerman had stayed in his car, Martin would be alive. If Martin hadn't attacked Zimmerman, Martin would be alive. Both men had an equal part in causing the shooting, but Zimmerman was still justified in firing.

You're free to read this as you will, of course. We obviously disagree and just as obviously stand little to no chance to convince the other one out of his foolish ways.

Krellin: has it ever, ever hit your twisted mind that there is the slight possibility that Martin faced a really lame opponent? Maybe Zimm carries a gun for a reason? Maybe he's a lame ass with no physical skill at all? Maybe he even tripped at some point and Martin benefited from that chance?
You have absolutely no hard evidence to call him a thug. In fact, all evidence I've heard to that effect surprisingly leads one to have to say that your favorite president, W. Bush, was also a thug. In fact, Bush had a worst record than Martin ever had (drinking, drug use, DUI, etc.). But that dude you probably still call a president, while the other one you call a thug.

I am trying to prove that, 1) No white was involved in the Zimmerman/Martin trial, so how can whites be 'racist' over a case that doesnot involve one of them?
2) That most every conservative on this site has been looking at the FACTS and evidence (key word here)

3) and so far, in this case, myself and 2 other conservatives have been very clear, that the WHITE man is guilty here, so again, put your race card in your pipe and smoke it.
