Bowhunting for bears
Anyone gone bowhunting for bears?

Hell no. Only reason I would "hunt" for a bear is to watch him live, sleep fish and all those other things your average bear does... I recommend that, with a bow for self-defence if you can't trust nature.

If you are going to bow hunt a bear you also have to bait it, preferrably with another animal but if you can't do that then you can do it with sweets. Baiting is illegal in a number of states though. I don't know of another accessory to bow hunting than baiting.

Bear hunting should be a capital offense.

@Putin33 Surely you value a human life more highly than a bear. Surely you jest ("jets").

Would the Battle of Agincourt have been worse for you if the opponent had been bears?

A bear is a great animal. Some dope with a bow who murders it deserves maximum punishment.

What if a bear kills another bear with a bow? What if a bear kills another bear with a composite bear? What if a bear kills a bear with a bear that he shot with a bow?

@phil_a_s your questions are moot, the bears are hibernating right now

What if I use a hibernating bear as a bow to shoot a bear?

"@Putin33 values animal life above human life."

I value animal life equal to animal life.
I don't see why it would be relevant if that animal is a human. That sounds an awful lot like discrimination to me as well. Presumably Putin thinks of it similarly.

@steephie22 Is capital punishment fitting though, as Putin33 suggests? I mean, dude, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a dude for a bear... a dude for a fish, a dude for a bug, a cat for a bird, a bird for a worm, where does it end? Leaves the whole world blind and kinda hungry.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
14 Dec 13 UTC
If you do it because you need food or because the bear tries to kill you without you provoking it, it's just a sad tale of nature. Otherwise, I don't see why you're not a murderer. If you don't even use, bury or cremate the corpse, even worse.
tendmote (100 D(B))

@steephie22 That's reasonable. Putin33 seemed to suggest that it was because the bear was an especially "great animal", as if animals were equal in theory, but some animals were "more equal than others" in practice.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
14 Dec 13 UTC
That was before I read your latest message. As for capital punishment, I don't know... Definitely some punishment, but just to prevent evil from happening, not for revenge, or "justice", how people prefer to call it.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
14 Dec 13 UTC
To be honest though, I will kill a mosquito in my room...

It does make me sad though, and I wouldn't want to make it suffer. I can't really quite justify doing so either, but, you know, you don't want mosquito's in your room...
tendmote (100 D(B))
14 Dec 13 UTC
@steephie22 Hmm...
steephie22 (182 D(S))
14 Dec 13 UTC
As for the bear, well, since we're simply not completely rational beings, it makes sense we care more about animals that are closer to us, so we care more about bears than mosquito's...

That doesn't justify it for me though. On the other hand, at some point you have to wonder what's worse, killing a virus or a plant or something... And then back to the mosquito's... At some point you have to kill.

Just killing a friendly bear for fun or for the sports though, I can't justify that.

@steephie22 Go on...

Basically, if you respect all life and act accordingly, you can't go far wrong in my opinion.

I'm not even a vegetarian. That is something I consider a point of improvement though.

@steephie22 What do you think about communism, then?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
14 Dec 13 UTC
I don't see the connection :P

Anyway, I think pure communism sucks just as much as pure capitalism. I think there should be social security to give everyone the possibility to reasonably have a life, taxing the rich most for that, to level the playfield a bit as well, which is better for the economy. Other than that, capitalism mostly works for me. Some other things of communism will do too though. As long as it's not purely one of them.

@Putin33

I was taking your statement as a statement of truth:

"A bear is a great animal. Some dope with a bow who murders it deserves maximum punishment."

What did you mean by that, Mr. Between-the-Lines?

I am in a game (Man the Torpedoes!) with a bunch of friends/acquaintances and one of the users was just banned for metagaming. He is not metagaming (at least not in this game for sure) so how can we restore his access so that we can continue the game?

So I jist watched the first Hunger Games
For a movie based on a teen book, it was much better than expected. Outstanding concept. Very good execution. Even the required teen "love triangle" seems more like a potential misunderstanding and political ploy than the Team what's or whoever bullshit of the Twilight series.
