gameID=77069Take a look at this game. At the time of writing, we are conducting the diplomacy phase of A12. As you can see, I play Russia, and Sandgoose plays Germany. A lot can be said about this game, but we're not here to discuss ongoing games. I just wanted to show that you will probably see "a little turbulence", but no all out war, and no all out alliance either.
Now we take a step back from the illustration; I wanted to discuss super-power relationships in the game of Diplomacy. In the 1970s, a US diplomat named "Henry Kissinger" - some of you know me as an admirer of Dr. Kissinger, perhaps not so much in what he believed or stood for but rather how he implemented it and how he thought - started a relationship of "Détente" "Relaxation" would be the English word, with the Soviet Union.
To understand that, one must understand that in that era, these were pretty much the only two global powers that mattered, China was upcoming but really the world was bipolar. In his book "Years of Upheaval", Dr. Kissinger describes - and I paraphrase - "Detente not so much as a way to make concessions to the Soviet Union, or form a strategic alliance with them, but to manage relationships between superpowers."
