Best film of 2011?
So, this is where YOU, the webdip community, say which film was (or films were) the best of 2011, and discuss each other's choices.

Ankara Crescent
We're overdue for a game of Ankara Crescent. I'll start:

Under the authority granted by the 1915 appendix, I move Trieste to Rumania, convoyed via hot-air balloon over Budapest.

Not wishing to derail a TC comedy thread, but are the Occupy protests still going on around the world? What's left of Occupy Exeter is being evicted, but a lot of them buggered off ages ago after their tents were themselves occupied by some rather loud and often drunk homeless people.

Occupy Plymouth has also packed up. Some of them did entertain an idea of renting the old job-centre building and occupying that for a while (occupying your own building doesn't have quite the same revolutionary appeal, but is rather more comfy), but it didn't come to anything. Methinks the movement is dying.
Economy's picking back up, unemployment's dropping.

I wonder what the real distribution of webDip points is like. All those inactive accounts must mess with the balance.

The top 1% in terms of GR holds 3.8%. Not exactly excessive.

The Occupy movement is as strong as ever. All it ever was was the same sort of people who protest wherever the G8 or WTO meet. You'll see these same people out the next time the protest class has a cause celebre.

They were nothing special. The media just loved the narrative of a liberal answer to the Tea Party.

It was kind of a big deal Invictus. You can hate them or say they're ineffective or whatever but it was kind of a big thing.

Before that no one was talking about inequality openly. Now look at the GOP primaries.

Not that people weren't talking about inequality, you know what I'm saying though. People started taking it seriously.
Invictus (240 D)

It was a big deal because it got all the media attention. There really weren't many people involved. Certainly less than protested the invasion of Iraq, for example. In reality the Occupy protests were the same hodgepodge of all kinds of lefties, anarchists, knee-jerk pro-Palestinian types, "gift economy" fetishists, etc with a sprinkling of legitimate union concerns and unemployable liberal arts majors with huge student loans.

You are right in that the whole production was successful in turning the national conversation to inequality. The tragedy of that is that it's totally distracted us from the existential debt crisis we face. Hopefully we get back to that much, much more important issue before its too late.

call me paranoid......
Would it seem unusual to anyone if two countries in a full press Anon game let the phase run right down to the last hour or so to even save, never mind ready ANY orders? Combine that with the fact that they are obviously allied may suggest Metas/Multis no? I suppose they could have chatted about meeting at said time, but.... or do I have Meta-gamer paranoia, a condition common among online dip players.....things that make you go hhmmmm
