Best film of 2011?
So, this is where YOU, the webdip community, say which film was (or films were) the best of 2011, and discuss each other's choices.

Ankara Crescent
We're overdue for a game of Ankara Crescent. I'll start:

Under the authority granted by the 1915 appendix, I move Trieste to Rumania, convoyed via hot-air balloon over Budapest.
Worldbeing (1063 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
An unusual opening move, best countered with A Rom -> Switzerland.
JECE (1322 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Worldbeing: I'm sorry, but in the 1915 appendix, article LXIV: 'On the three invisible supply centers', sub-section II, if both Siberia and Ireland are occupied, then a move from a great power's capital to Swz is illegal.
Worldbeing (1063 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
JECE: Oh, are we not playing with Hyndman's Federation Ruleset? How...unusual.
In that case, A Wales -> London on the M4.

Then I'll have to counter with...

Finland to Galicia, with a detour in the Tyrrhenian Sea (orders are path-independent).

Has anyone scripted Ankara Crescent yet? I really have a hard time visualizing the moves without the board.

I move F Iceland to Moscow (note the coast of moscow article describing its authenticity)
JECE (1322 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Yonni: I'm pretty sure this is the right board:

The units are already on it.
cteno4 (100 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Oh, please. Rivers don't count as coastlines and neither do lakeshores. But while your fleet is off trying to find the Northeast Passage, I'll order F Andorra-Iceland and occupy its port.
JECE (1322 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Diplomat33: Oh, I forgot about Iceland! Luckily for cteno4, Ice was also occupied.
cteno4 (100 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
While I'm waiting in NAO, I'l just convoy in some haggis from Scotland.
Yonni (136 D(S))
26 Jan 12 UTC
Great! Thanks, that really helps.

I'll send it more moves in the tomorrow but my troops are going rest in that small inn on the border of Portugal and Greece. Pending how everyone else moves, they'll hopefully enjoy the company of some of the comfort women there and be ready to set sail for the New World in the morning.

It looks like noone is currently playing as Ireland so I'll take up the spot and open with the typical tunnel to Paris.

I'm going to sit in Moscow and declare independence, and start working on my space program. Does anyone have an online dice that I can use to see where my rocket lands?
JECE (1322 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Rommeltastic: Did you say dice? We here in Diplomacy-land don't like dice. We here in Diplomacy-land don't like dice no bit. Oh, Rommeltastic, you've just got yourself into a little bit of a dillema, haven't you? [sharpens dagger] Yes, you have, Rommeltastic: yes you have. You know, Rommeltastic, what we here in Diplomacy-land do with people who use dice, right? [evil smirk]

With Moscow clearly in Civil Disorder, I take the opportunity to move A Livonia-Sevastopol, with moral support from Poland.

Army Moscow is going to move to MIR, convoyed by Soyuz.
MoshDayan (100 D)

Sorry about the delay in submitting, it took more time to train the pigeons than I expected.
Worldbeing (1063 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Well, I still hold London so I'm going to Occupy St Paul's Cathedral and build a Canon.
fortknox (2059 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Ankaran Crescent? God, it's been a while.
I'm assuming you are using the standard 1932 Iberian Varient, in which case, I'll be playing as switzerland. Just as a reminder, my 'land fleet' pieces are amphibious and count as 3 units attacking and holding (5 if in a mountainous region) and I will be holding all in spr1901.
ulytau (541 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Since Iceland should be vacant, I'm convoying A Rome via TYR to Vesuv, where it gets on Highway2Hell and drives all the way to Eyjafjallajökull's caldera just in time to catch the eruption to propel itself to MIR and once again save the whole board from whatever Juggernaut was scheming.

Shipload of long-range missiles coming through in a convoy to Tehran from Moscow
cteno4 (100 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
@santosh: Due to one player's habit of winning games using support moves from the moon, all orders involving territories on the border of the Diplomacy map became invalid in the 1966 revision of Section XII, Article D. Your order from Tehran has been declared illegal and nullified.
fortknox (2059 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
@cteno4: Would one consider MIR as part of the interpretation of that 1966 revision? If so, that may invalidate ulytau's volcanic convoy to MIR. In which case, keep your eyes on that juggernaut...
Pete U (293 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
OK - I'm officially confused. WHich version are we playing? If it's the pre-World Cup 1966 rules, then the move to MIR was invalid. If, however, the Russian Linesman interpretation is valid, then MIR is OK, but the re-entry point cannot be plotted without scatter.

The best way to stop the Juggernaut now is to play the unexpected reverse of Fleet to Sea of Tanquility
ODaly (236 D)
27 Jan 12 UTC
Is the Laika Loop-hole in effect? If so I'll convoy from the ISS to Stockholm.
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))

Army StP move to Ankara Crescent server, and make Juggernaut CD.
Case solved.

call me paranoid......
Would it seem unusual to anyone if two countries in a full press Anon game let the phase run right down to the last hour or so to even save, never mind ready ANY orders? Combine that with the fact that they are obviously allied may suggest Metas/Multis no? I suppose they could have chatted about meeting at said time, but.... or do I have Meta-gamer paranoia, a condition common among online dip players.....things that make you go hhmmmm
