We're overdue for a game of Ankara Crescent. I'll start:

So, 707 point pot.... but a lot of frustrating play. Congrats jmeyersd

A08 - I was trying to draw a stalemate line on the north border and pushed everything that way to try and hold him back. S09, Russia/Italy/Turkey killed me off, at that point I wanted Germany to win.

As, Italy I had a horrible start with a misorder to Tunis. To top that off, France attacked me right off the bat. After a French center got munched, peace was restored in the west and I decided to Lepanto. However, just as I was making progress there a stray English ship took Tunis and forced me to pull back. Worked to establish the stalemate line in the south, but chaos in East (probably would have been fine if someone had been eliminated- rather difficult to coordinate create a peace amongst four) prevented us from halting the German.
Barn3tt (41969 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Yeah, sorry pjmansfield. When everyone was eating, I decided to pick up a center as I needed another fleet.
Sargmacher (0 DX)

Yes, amazing play by jmeyers in a very tricky game. Well done!
pjmansfield99 (100 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
I didn't blame you and actually we'd been pretty good up until that point. That English fleet was the killer, if you'd been able to get into Turkey and not had to pull back we might have been in a better position
Sargmacher (0 DX)
26 Jan 12 UTC
@pjmansfield: I felt that you realised we needed to get a stalemate too late. You voted draw but continued to attack me and Turkey. When you finally moved towards Germany, I decided you were too unreliable to...well...rely on. And I needed an extra army to hold Moscow but that never came. Oh well.
Victorious (768 D)

I thought we could make it without Austria in the draw. Apparantly, i was wrong.

@ Sargmacher, we had a good alliance going on. But i do think, if you had helped me against Austria once at the start, we both would have profited from it bigtime.
pjmansfield99 (100 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
You were frustrating me no end as well Sargmacher, it took me forever to try and get my centers back and it took Italy getting into Turkey to achieve it, well played
Sargmacher (0 DX)
26 Jan 12 UTC
@Victorious: I agree. Always the problem of a two-front Russia. Taking Rumania with the fleet may have been a mistake.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
26 Jan 12 UTC
You imply that I was frustrating you because I played well. You frustrated me in the end-game because you didn't move to the stalemate line despite voting draw.

the curse of the Turkish, Russian alliance. I was also cursing the fleet because of being in the black sea, instead of in smyrna :)
jmeyersd (4240 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Thanks for the fun game all. No cds, solid play all-around pretty much -- an uncommonly good gunboat.

long story short i think you just got done in by the fact you couldn't get anyone out. it's very hard to organize a gunboat stalemate with one stray country, let alone 2 or 3.
in that respect, i think i owe that win mostly to turkey, since he managed to stick around. thanks man!

also, england didn't do anyone but me any favors. tough luck, michigan man.

In Spring 1907, Jmeyers only had 10 centers and it didn't look like he would grow that quickly so I continued to try and push south, basically worried that as soon as I turned my back again I would be stabbed.

In Spring 1908, when he picked up a bunch of French centers (and only 1 move after Italy pushed up into Tyr) I tried to get into Silesia and form a stalemate line. I don't think I was too late, but maybe. Its tricky playing Austria in that position as you always know that your the first one people will try to eliminate from the draw.

@ JMeyers, congrats.

@ MichiganMan, i was big time surprised the moment you took a fourth army. Can you tell me your way of thinking behind that tactic?

@ Dharmaton, thank you for moving on Tunis :)
pjmansfield99 (100 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Yeah, Dharmaton that was the killer ;) Well held out Victorious, I just regret that you all jumped me! Not sure it would have made any difference though.
Barn3tt (41969 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
Dharmaton, made a mess all over the board. Not entirely blame worthy, but it certainly helped jmeyersd to solo.
Victorious (768 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
I think the real killer was the German move into galicia in spring 09. Otherwise we would not have lost warsaw. But we were to busy fighting each other :(
Dharmaton (2398 D)
26 Jan 12 UTC
LOL - I did a huge blunder Spring 02, Edi-NTH ... when I was supposed to go to NWS...
Russia helped German who then back stabbed him... That was a bad choice ... I played then after almost as if in a PPSC ;/...

call me paranoid......
Would it seem unusual to anyone if two countries in a full press Anon game let the phase run right down to the last hour or so to even save, never mind ready ANY orders? Combine that with the fact that they are obviously allied may suggest Metas/Multis no? I suppose they could have chatted about meeting at said time, but.... or do I have Meta-gamer paranoia, a condition common among online dip players.....things that make you go hhmmmm
