Better late than never, my perspective. I was Russia in the game.
This game started out just bog standard for me, I was bounced out of Swe (no surprise), but grabbed Gal, had a good shot at Rum. When suddenly, in Spring 1902, two things happen. First, Turkey shifts around and points his arrows at me. With Austria and Italy at war, he has his hands free. And, more surprisingly, the Brits make a lunge for Scandinavia and StP. With France going south as well, I'm positive that I have no chances left and am effectively out of the tournament.
I'm on the defensive from there on in. I cede StP in the hope I can continue as rump Russia, but England uses his army to invade, keeping constant threat on Moscow. It seems to me to be an overstretch that mainly benefits T and A. When the French finally do stab England, the stab is weak and England can still build F Lon! Over this period, I succesively lose control over Mos, War and Rum in addition to StP. With the front on the Balkans still a mess, I am persistent with my few armies in my attention there, confident that Turkey will see it in their benefit to push me further. This doesnt really pan out.
However, when the French finally bite in Lon, England is forced to disband his army, finally giving me some room. I take back War (some luck here), and can slowly reconquer my entire territory. I remain surprised by Turkey who doesnt allow me into Rum, while I was really intent on getting a Juggernaut going which I still think was in mutual interest. However, T remains intent on focusing on me.
Having reclaimed my territory, it seems a sure fire towards a four-way draw. England is all but gone, and Turkey is growing out of hand, so I was sure to receive backing. However, two things happen which I did not anticipate at all. First, France holds off killing England (2WL: why?), and Germany keeps on advancing against me, forcing me to disband while Turkey advances. Frankly, I thought this was a very very risky strategy by Germany, giving incentive to Turkey to push forward.
For several turns I could ignore the further advances of Germany, frustrating though they were. When he moved to Livonia, I seriously pondered throwing the game. I was in the middle of a workshop irl, and couldnt decide, and in the end - foolishly - NMRed because I waited to long to pursue one strategy or the other. At this point I know (rightly) G and T will both come for my throat.
I seriously think this could have (again) been a solo for Nigee. I don't know why he didnt pursue further. Can you explain Nigee? It seems you simply don't like the slow pace of a grinding endgame, is that right?
Btw: my play slowed down significantly during the game as my real life took me from conference to conference, although I got the feeling I wasnt the only one at the end.
