World War Two Diplomacy (Global Variant)
I was thinking about a World War Two Diplomacy Variant expanded to encompass the entire globe. Any ideas?

What? Azogar's still been occupying a foul corner of this site until as recently as a week ago?!? That pathetic piece of slime was almost enough to make me leave when I first joined this place. I thought he'd buggered off years ago.

Computer hacking ...... what a great story, it's just like the REAL world.
We've got a computer hacker in the UK who hacked the Pentagons computer system (or was it NASA) looking for aliens.
Of course the UK govt won't allow him to be extradited from the UK to face justice because he is white...... and he's got problems.
I demand justice.
Octavious (2701 D)

It's shocking, isn't it Nigs? It's almost as if the government were listening to overwhelming public opinion!
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
Yes but not U.S. public opinion.and the UK public are biased against Americans
If only the govt had listened to public opinion on the economy we wouldn't be heading for a triple-dip recession
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Britain's the most isolated place in the world economically. If they hadn't listened to public opinion, they'd have been in the EU and would *already* be in a triple-dip recession.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

We are in the EU :-)

Nod, Nod wink, wink - I wonder if the guy we didn't extradite is now working for the UK government?

I have no inside information to support this rediculous idea so don't ask me how I dreamed up such a fanciful notion as I've said too much already
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

Separating monetary and fiscal integration (i.e. have one without the other) was never going to work and so it has proved, it was an economic failure waiting to happen but it was delayed by an extended period of economic growth that masked the issues but they were still there.

The British don't have the EURO
but since friday they also don't have a TRIPLE A RATING.

Leave it our Johann our Chancellor is a miracle-worker, and humble with it. An all-round lovely guy doing wonders for the UK economy using super-advanced economic strategies/concepts that other modern economies discarded years ago.
we call the current strategy the Dad's Army approach.
Put on a hard hat, don't panic, just 'Keep Calm and Carry On'.
Who do you think you are kidding Mrs Merkel, if you think we're on the run.....

NigeeBaby and Octavious: I don't know much about this story, but you will probably find this case of British extradition interesting:

bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Case in point, the whole world's main economic sources are all crashing and Britain is *last* to experience anything. That is a good sign.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
@ JECE - I know of this case but you know what, we have a govt that is comfortable with the situation. It looks like a huge miscarriage of justice but really who cares, not the people who matter ..... what price justice when politicians get involved.
Octavious (2701 D)
25 Feb 13 UTC
@ Redhouse

We have two AAA ratings, in fact. Moody's given us an AA1, but variety is the spice of life ;).

@ JECE: I confess I don't find British extradition law particularly interesting. It's a tedious and murky area that needs cleaning up, but not one that I have any enthusiasm for. Politicians, as always, get motivated when massive public opinion pushes them, as in the hacking case Nigee mentioned. There is some debate on whether the power to make an intervention should be in the hands of Ministers, and I'm not sure where I stand on it.

The temptation is to take the case of a white chap and a Muslim having different experiences and jump on a racism bandwagon. I suspect the truth is simply that the parents of Gary McKinnon were far better at running a publicity campaign. Generally victims of the extradition treaty come from all races and backgrounds.

I disagree with this decision. Hacking into another player's account is well within the spirit of diplomacy.

For anyone who cares...
@Lee, no, I'm not married, not even with Azogar. But we were friends, some time ago. That's sad and bitter.
As Jmo explained, I changed my password (I always do when someone sits for my account) but I didn't think about the consequences of using Azogar's mobile connection for once (so, we're not dealing with sitting...). Thus, I never allowed him to use my account, THREE MONTHS AFTER, even if my fault ended up giving him the chance.

None of us have ever worried about someone using our account without permission. I have never once worried about a hacker. Hell, I've never even worried about a key logger here. There's no reason to put a tad bit of blame on BreathOfVega here for doing the same thing we all do - not worrying and not thinking about it.

Yeah, BoV is definitely a victim, not someone to blame.

Thanks. I'm not used to worry when I am playing and having fun. If I did, I'd probably stop having fun.
I am going to take a break for a bit (not that this is of any interest for you), but I am at least glad that you won't consider it was my doing anymore.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
It wasn't your doing in the first place. That was quite obvious if you managed to ignore the rumors and simply looked at the map. I was skeptical but I don't recall a time when I thought it was simply you jacking the game up.

While nobody is going to ensure that this kind of thing can't happen anymore, it might be worthwhile to put some serious effort behind stopping any chance of this again. Maybe it would be worthwhile to automatically log a player out if they've been online for a certain period of time (let's just say a week for simplicity's sake).
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Feb 13 UTC
@bo - They said kestas had changed something so this technique will not happen again (assuming it was a "keep me logged in" login from before a password change used to do the dirty deed).

@BoV - Anyone blaming you would be like blaming the owner of a house that was burglared because he didn't have the latest state of the art security system. You were the unlucky first victim of a loophole in the security.
BreathOfVega (597 D)
25 Feb 13 UTC
Draug and bo: I thank you again. But since I KNOW that it's elementary to log off when using others' connection, I know that I am partially at fault for giving him the chance to hack my account. What it's bitter is that I did not really expect him to do it.

If I left my house's door opened, I would blame myself if something happened. That's aside blaming the burglar, of course.

Anyway, when I say "you won't blame me for it" I mean you as a site. I can't play full press with my english, but I am quite interested in keeping my name clean, at least.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
@BoV .. if you lived in certain places, leaving your house door open wouldn't be terribly out of the ordinary. Sounds crazy to us, but the point is that this really is one of those places. I would never expect someone to walk in even if it was open on this site.

@Draug .. yeah, I know, I saw that. I'm just looking to take the precautions necessary to cover anything in the future. Like they say, you can't beat a felon by chasing them till they get tired; you have to get ahead of them at some point.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Feb 13 UTC
I'm sure KEstas thought it through and not only closed that loophole but half a dozen other ways he thought it might be hackable.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
@bo

There are standard ways of preventing this sort of thing that are more than adequate for this site. I'm sure Kestas is already on it. There's no need to implement crazy "security" features that inconvenience players and don't actually add any security.

TIME FOR REVOLUTION!
I heard from a very reliable source that the government gives black women $400 a week? That is, and I quote, "$28,000 a year, better than minimum wage, just for being women and black."
Now, I know krellin is on my side for the revolution to take down all women, but when injustice like this is being taunted in our faces, I feel obliged to take action! WHO'S WITH ME?

Unread Mail in Gunboat games
I've had it happen before (in completed games) that the unread mail icon has shown up in one of my gunboat games. What's that all about? Moderator messages? Naturally, one can't read these in a gunboat game, since there's no global tab.

First place units, than give orders
I was thinking, whether is it possible to make pregame for build. Players would choose what type of unit they want to build: land or fleet. For instance. Austria would be able to place 3 land units. It might be interesting, because placing the units may indicate the intentions of players...or not. Of not as an constans variant than an option in advanced settings.

Testing semck's theory
Hey THUCY you know blacks were NEVER enslaved? They're not even from Africa, you dolt. Why else would we call them African AMERICANS? And don't even get me started on black WOMEN, easily the most privilege citizens in the country. You know the government gives them $400 a WEEK? That's $28,000 a YEAR, better than minimum wage, just for being WOMEN and BLACK. You pitiable FOOL. I feel bad for you, son, believing these diluted liberal LIES.

World Map
What's your favorite country to play as? Alliances to form?
Of course, the map is quite unbalanced, but I just wanted to see. World strategies are much more complicated than Europe.

I'll start: favorites are Russia and Argentina. Favorite alliance, Russia-Near East or Libya- Near East

Does anyone else feel the frustration I have when players do not press the NOT READY icon after pressing SAVE, I can understand if they need the full time if they are busy with other things, THAT'S LIFE, but when everyone else's orders are in showing a GREEN TICK, why needlessly hold the war up and its worse on builds and retreats, for those out there that do this, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, time to WAKE UP!

Anyone who opens with a "real" opening will be ganged up on and beaten, followed by a six way draw. P.M. me if interested, and I will give you the password and Game I.D.
