Tetraplegic man's life support 'turned off by mistake'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-11595485

Just saw this.. very, very disturbing.. He was concerned enough about it to set up a camera in his room and write to the NHS about it, he was aware what was happening as it got turned off, and he got severely brain damaged..

Ok, so 'question' threads are popping up like hotcakes. I'm not going to bother replying to them all, so here's over 100 questions for you. Answer whichever ones you want, or don't do any at all - I probably won't read the answers ;)

Draw Shmaw... I'm going to win this one for him :)
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@figle,

I think he's referring to the fact that he's the only person in one of his games not to vote for a draw.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
26 Oct 10 UTC
Well, even so - I don't see what's wrong with asking for a sitter to try and play out his games to the best possible outcome
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Oct 10 UTC
@Fig - he is having trouble finding a sitter for both games, so if he goes ahead and draws (and if you saw the position due to a recent CD yopu understand why we want the draw) then he'd only have to find someone able to play his world game.
figlesquidge (2131 D)

Fair enough.

Draug, I took over his games more than 24 hours ago. It's not a problem.

Frankly, I'm confused by the "someone went CD, so this game should be drawn" crowd.
Some of them are purists - but if we followed their advice, we'd not get to complete 25% of the games. In fact, it would encourage players to stop moving...to get a draw.

And some of them are opportunists - Austria, in this game, proposed the draw, then backed out when the game was going his way (that's how he explained his change of vote), and now is voting for a draw again.

Draugnar, I would venture a guess that you've had the opportunity to take advantage of a CD/NMR situation or two in your day... maybe even in the past few weeks?

Draugnar (0 DX)

I don't recall taking advantage of a CD/NMR in a game I was in. I've takne over some CDs to help out lately (and am paying for it dearly in a couple of them), but honestly can't recall a CD/NMR that helped me out in a game anytime recently.

Azogar's Challenge (didn't scan all the games, this was on page 2). Went from 5 to 10 as France when Italy didn't stir for 5 straight moves. I admit, it is hard to know when a player has missed a turn, if they will be back. And I accept, if you say it, that you prefer not to take advantage of it. But I'd hate to have to end every game where a newbie ran. I consider it a variable in a game where everyone should take it into account, just like an alliance change.

Azogar Invitational ended more than 3 months ago. Christ, you call that *recent*?! And it was supposed to be a 4 way draw, but podium went AWOL and I had to consume him to prevent the others from getting the win.

How do I join an open game with a password. I tried my pass word but it didn't work. Does the game have a separate password? If so, how do I get it?

Ugh. Emptiest victory ever.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=40567 I'm ashamed to have taken the win in this one. I'll explain my reasoning for anyone from the game (or not from the game) who cares to hear, because I think those of you who stuck it out deserve an explanation.

Job Interview Advice
FINALLY got a call-back on a job (Barnes & Nobles, been trying to get a job there for three years...practically go there every day, it's I'm such an English/Literature person and all) for tomorrow morning, had a couple managers recommend me to another, and I did well with him on Saturday, so tomorrow meeting for what I'd assume would be the final interview for a position there...anyone who's been through this and been successful nabbing the job, any advice?
