While not an attorney, even I know that oral contract law varies from state to state and there is also the question of age. Were the litgants of legal age to enter into a contract, oral or otherwise? The answer to your questions may vary by state or even region.

statute of frauds is a common law defense. it requires land deals (and certain other types) to be written. but you're correct that some states have codified it with exceptions (e.g. part performance)

Like I said, I'm not an attorney. But it sounds like I should get my right of first refusal on our rental house (we are the renters, not the landlords) in writing so it can't be sold out from underneath us.

Although Draug is right, I'm using the Bar Exam rule that if it is not stated that they are under age, then this is not a crucial fact, and therefore should be ignored in favor of the Statute of Frauds issue.

I'll replace that question with one only a real live lawyer would know.

in Greece it's $88 per hour but normally you have to hunt them to pay it...

Wow, is that a limit? God, there are very few lawyers who charge that little...I'd venture to say almost none will offer that amount (although oftentimes that amount is what everything averages out to when you account for unbillable time)

That amount is very close to the amount paid by my State for the services of a court-appointed attorney in Criminal matters

$88 per hour is the less you are supposed to charge.
But realistically speaking people here don't have enough money to pay just for advice so normally you ll advice for free and get paid only after taking real action.
jchryan97, Greek law schools do not demand that you expertise into something, so you are allowed to practice all fields of law.
I'm a relatively new layer (just 5 years) so I like working on different practices so that I keep learning and so that I don't get bored.
I use google ads and low prices to attract clients and strangely it's working.
Lately my most successful advertising campaign refers to consensual divorce (6 in the last month), so you could say that whether I like it or not, this has became my field of expertise...
