Just venting - another idea on CD's
With our endless programming resources, I think that anyone who has "left" a game or went CD (they would be the same, no?) should be unable to process a move in any other game until they rejoin and move.... and should suffer a two week "time out" in the penalty chair. :)

good game all. France, my next orders were to block Russia in the MAO. I had no desire to conquer you. I just needed to get fleets in place to stop russia from winning.

EOG for Austria:

Excellent start. I couldn't have been happier. I mean, A SMY-ARM might have made me smile, but whatever. 2 builds.

From here on, it was evident that there was an R/T. I got into AEG and tried to support Italy in there...until here he has played an excellent lepanto.

But at this point, he decides to play stupid and turn around to take a potshot at France. Then he finally notices the Turkish fleet and decides to send two of his units back. Germany goes and misses 2 crucial build phases, and it's a great big surprise to me that nobody manages to get into his centers during this time. France is getting triple teamed on and England is mucking around in Scandinavia like a baby.

Honestly, the three who drew were the only fine players in this game. I'm glad I took Italy down with me.

He pegged me as Russia. Something about my tendency to stab....not sure where that's coming from...
ava2790 (232 D(S))
03 Oct 10 UTC
Are you guys actually going to post EOGs?
Russia never stabbed that game, though. I actually was hoping I could get a 17/17 split with Turkey. Well, right up to the first time he took Budapest.

Italy did play a rather fruitless game, though. As did England, for that matter.

And I didn't want to draw while Germany was still around to reap any rewards.

I had Barn3tt as one of the juggernaut nations. Since Turkey made a premature stab for BUD (premature, imho), I pegged Barn3tt down as Russia. Excellent game Bob.
EOG from Russia's POV:

1. When Turkey didn't go to Armenia, it cleared up exactly who I was going after in the south. It's just so much easier to connote a juggernaut in gunboat than an A/R. As to the north, I was pissed by Germany bouncing my fleet from Sweden, but it did force me to play a more cautious game. Seriosuly, though, is there anything less of a threat to anyone than a Russian fleet in Sweden in the early game?

2. Germany was hard for me to figure out for the first few years. By 04, though, it seemed to me like I was in his decision-making loop. Had England once checked the orders and seen that I was trying like hell to give him peace in Scandinavia, then Germany would have died much quicker.
Barn3tt (41969 D)

Here's mine- I decided to start off with a safe standard opening. I thought that Germany's moves might indicate a move Burgundy, but figured I'd be OK with 3 builds and England would be tied down in Scandinavia.

England's move to NAO through a wrench in this plan. I then decided to hunker down and hopefully force England to turn on Germany due to being frustrated in his attacks on me. This kind of worked. England's game eventually became on of vacillation between multiple enemies he had made.

Italy's attack on me was well-timed. Partly out of spite and partly due to seeing an emerging R-T that would pull him east, I decided to sacrifice Marseilles rather than Brest. As I predicted, Italy was forced east and I was able to retake Marseilles with ease.

My mid game was frustrating. My hoped for target was England, but having one fleet forced me to try for Belgium. Eventually I was able to get another fleet, but by that time the Turk was upon me.

My forces valiantly held him off until an exhausted and humiliated Sultan finally sued for peace.... at least, that's how I remember it- :-)

It was certainly quite the balancing act trying to survive between the two behemoths, R and T.

From a distance, it looked like France played one hell of a defensive game. When Italy was doing his "Let's see some pretty red lines moving back and forth on the map" offensive in around 02-04, every time Italy turned Franceward, I was thinking that was the end, given that France had no other friends in the west.

His first attempt was rather scary. The second one wasn't.
The Czech (39715 D(S))

ok here's mine:
I hoped by moving to Con Russia would realize I wanted peace. When he sat in Sev and took Rum with the army I knew he was on my side. I tried to show him I was anti Austrian by attacking Ser. When Italy set up the Lepanto. I thought this would be a quick game for me. I would like to know why he turned west. His change of heart and Russia's support allowed the Juggernaut to start rolling. I honestly thought that Barn was Russia. The way he left an army in Bud and a F in Rum, allowed me to keep things at a minimum too. It wasn't until the 3 build year that I feared Russia would turn on me. I knew I couldn't plug the holes as fast as he could exploit them so I had to strike. At this time I thought Russia was ava. Russia, BOB, did a great job playing defense while taking control of the north. Near the end, I voted for a draw hoping France would get my intent of peace. He did. My last orders before the draw were to move Spa-MAO with support from NAf and WMed. It was a good game.

Barn3tt (41969 D)

There was never any reason for either of you to draw until the end. Rarely, did the forces arrayed against you match your combined firepower. That is until you turned on each other.

Well, I didn't draw because Germany was still around. Plus, I had a reasonable shot at winning; France and Turkey were pretty tied up, and the main area where anyone could grow on the board was around the North Sea, where I was sitting pretty. Once I sucked that dry, and couldn't get enough force into France quickly to really offset my potential losses in the south, a draw started looking mighty nice.

As to a rematch, I'd happily play sometime, but if I played now, I'd just be stupid.

"Italy did play a rather fruitless game, though. As did England, for that matter."

This made me laugh - as you are right, I played terribly as Italy last night. That'll teach me not to play at 3am whilst trying to do German grammar work (even if it is a gunboat).

I look forward to hopefully being able to play a rematch with you guys - maybe a passworded game?
I'm down. Not tonight, as I have a funeral to attend, but maybe tomorrow night.

How do you play live non-gunboat?
I'm new to the board (but not to the game) and I played in a live gunboat game recently. At times it seemed like five minutes was barely enough to finish thinking through your orders and doublechecking them, especially if you have a lot of units. So what I want to know is, how do people play this way in non-gunboat? I don't think I could possibly keep up even two conversations and submit orders in that timeframe. Am I just slow?

Liberal Democrats
I think it is very interesting what is happening to the Liberal Democrats in the UK. Since they went into coalition government with the evil Tories, party members have been quitting in their thousands, with many apparently joining the Labour Party, which has reported the biggest influx of new members for several years. Is anyone here a Lib Dem supporter? What's your view?

I suspect this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find the information so here goes: how come it hasn't been coded in the software to auto-disband units when there is no other choice available to the player?

I would like to see the website become iPod compatible. I already know that iPods will work with the game but I would like to see a friendlier interface. Plus people being able to submit their moves on the go would be much easier and we'd have less people missing turns.

Any ideas?

American and Europe: Did We Get Kicked Out? Walked Out? Both?
I love hockey, so I go to hockey forums to have a chat--second they find out I'm American half of the Canadian fans automatically assume I think American franchises are better (they're not, by the way.) On other sites, LOTS of Euro/US bashing, on both sides, but it seems the Euros have the edge. It's like the Euros/Canada have a club, and we're not invited...or were and then got crossed off for...who? What? Why can't we be in the Western Culture Club again?

Live game IM group
Those of you that play live games probably realise that the system for setting them up isn't perfect. There are often 7 players up for a game who don't quite overlap or miss games that have been started. When you do get a game started, it's not uncommon to get a CD, and it seems to attract the occasional cheater as well.
