Just venting - another idea on CD's
With our endless programming resources, I think that anyone who has "left" a game or went CD (they would be the same, no?) should be unable to process a move in any other game until they rejoin and move.... and should suffer a two week "time out" in the penalty chair. :)

How do you play live non-gunboat?
I'm new to the board (but not to the game) and I played in a live gunboat game recently. At times it seemed like five minutes was barely enough to finish thinking through your orders and doublechecking them, especially if you have a lot of units. So what I want to know is, how do people play this way in non-gunboat? I don't think I could possibly keep up even two conversations and submit orders in that timeframe. Am I just slow?

Looked in FAQ but could not find it. Who and how do you indicate to the game that you have left or retired. Not recommended I know but its better than silence (just) .

Liberal Democrats
I think it is very interesting what is happening to the Liberal Democrats in the UK. Since they went into coalition government with the evil Tories, party members have been quitting in their thousands, with many apparently joining the Labour Party, which has reported the biggest influx of new members for several years. Is anyone here a Lib Dem supporter? What's your view?

Auto-disband?
Hey there-

I suspect this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find the information so here goes: how come it hasn't been coded in the software to auto-disband units when there is no other choice available to the player?

Asking to experienced players
Where did I go wrong? I was feeling the victory in my hands when I realized I couldn't win. Any diplomat here would like to pointing out my mistakes? I just want to stop to draw and start to win a litte bit more.

you went wrong by not continuing to play. there were a lot of places you could have advanced
Babak (26982 D(B))

agreed with AK. you could have stabbed France for your last 3.

Bel, Lvp and Bre are all you needed. specially since it was a Gunboat, highly unlikely that Italy/France would have been able to come together in time to save the game from a solo for you.

Babak, either you're looking at the wrong game, or think Rubetok is a different person. He was Italy

Well, first of all you played a good game. It´s not easy to win a gunboat with Italy, even with a CD Turkey.
Second, I think you key mistake was a move to West Med on 1904. What you expect to get with that? France have to give up the attack on England to defend from you, and this give Germany a chance to grow a lot. To win as Italy you just need a line from Tun to Stp including War, so I think you should have focused on securing the East and wait for the moment France and Germany start to fight to make your move to the win. But in the end it could have ended in a draw anyway.
And I am probably not the best one to teach how you draw less games :-)
Agent K said it already -- you COULD have won. You had everything east of Venice you needed locked up already. The weakness in their line in the south was the lack of an army in Gascony; Spain would have fallen once you get into NAf and hit MAO and Marseilles while supporting yourself into Spain. From there Marseilles and the MAO would have gone, and then Portugal is yours for 18.

Try to think of it from your enemies' perspectives: What is the easiest way to stop a player from winning? Developing a stalemate line is often the best way to defend against a growing power.

The more games you play, the more you see potential stalemates. If you see a stalemate line running from Spain through Moscow being formed, try as hard as you can to get a unit in there before the stalemate line is completed. In this case, the main thing I see is that you had a chance to get Spain in the Spring of 1908, which would have wrecked any hopes France had of reaching a stalemate line soon enough, that you neglected to act upon. Had you done that, you probably would have won.

you went wrong by drawing italy lolololololol

but seriously you should probably not have made enemies of both france and germany. they should have been easier to set against each other. if you tried your best, then you did nothing wrong however.

I think you did good till the spring of 07, there you should have gone for the MAO to block France's fleet that you knew was coming instead of going for an unlikely Spain. After that you just needed to push a little harder. In the future don't be so willing to give up, go for the win even if it will take a little time. There was not much Germany could do against you in the north.
Honestly I don't think you did anything wrong, because I don't think you could have won. Germany had a solid line against you in Russia and you didn't have any clear-cut way to advacne out of the Med. Barring Germany stabbing France I think it was a draw.

Thank you all of you for your replies.
@Agent K, President Eden, Thucydides: I know I could have won, but France had started to swing his units to south, and Germany could stab him in the north and won before me, as Babak said. Well, maybe I had to try, instead of an previsible draw.
@rdrivera2005: Thanks for replying, your advices are ever valuable! I agree with you. That move to West Med was dumb and indeed it made France come back to me. "To win as Italy you just need a line from Tun to Stp including War", then you think I should keep trying to get the rest of Russia?
@askninjasks: wow.. it's true. Actually, I had tried to get Spain, but with the wrong unit. I have to improve to brake these stalemates before they're formed. Thank you.
@jmo1121109: Well, Germany could stab France as well... but next time I will keep trying a little more.
@LJ TYLER DURDEN : THANKS! You made me feel better.

I would not have drawn in that position. You still had a chance to make progress against France.

iPod / moblie compatable
I would like to see the website become iPod compatible. I already know that iPods will work with the game but I would like to see a friendlier interface. Plus people being able to submit their moves on the go would be much easier and we'd have less people missing turns.

Any ideas?

American and Europe: Did We Get Kicked Out? Walked Out? Both?
I love hockey, so I go to hockey forums to have a chat--second they find out I'm American half of the Canadian fans automatically assume I think American franchises are better (they're not, by the way.) On other sites, LOTS of Euro/US bashing, on both sides, but it seems the Euros have the edge. It's like the Euros/Canada have a club, and we're not invited...or were and then got crossed off for...who? What? Why can't we be in the Western Culture Club again?

Live game IM group
Those of you that play live games probably realise that the system for setting them up isn't perfect. There are often 7 players up for a game who don't quite overlap or miss games that have been started. When you do get a game started, it's not uncommon to get a CD, and it seems to attract the occasional cheater as well.
