The Greatest Baseball Team Ever (According to RBI Baseball)
10 teams in a three-game season, and then four teams advance to the playoffs... one team per decade, one team per franchise, the teams:
1908 Cubs, 1911 Athletics, 1927 Yankees, 1936 Cardinals, (1940's skipped, since best players were off at war) 1954 Giants, 1965 Dodgers, 1975 Reds, 1986 Mets, 1991, 2004 Red Sox. Who will win?

If a guy does not once attacked you and was always loyal to you and at the end of the game when you have the opportunity to stab him and won or agree with the draw. What's your choose?

Better forum software
Could we have a forum that works like a forum instead of...all this? It'd make keeping track of threads simple instead of an Orwellian/Kafkaesque/Dadaist (??) nightmare.

I play tons of gunboat games cause they need less time. But I admit I have not played one gunboat game with WTA (I think).

Do you say two-thousand and ten or twenty ten?

What ever you want, but twenty ten sounds better to me.

I've noticed people younger than me saying "two thousand ten", but those of us who are used to saying "nineteen ninety-something" are going to go back to "twenty ten." :)
What's wrong with oh-ten?
Thucydides (864 D(B))
01 Jan 10 UTC
its twenty ten.

you have to get off the "two thousand and.." trip sometime, and 2010 is the best time. Imagine if it stuck and in 2072 they said "two thousand seventy two"

stupid. in the future, when people read dates like 2005 they'll likely say "twenty oh five," not knowing that the ignorant masses of today said two thousand five lol. Or even if they do know that, they'll still likely say twenty.

Though that's not necessarily true. I imagine in 1900-1909 they said "nineteen hundred and ..." but in hindsight most people say "nineteen oh..." though some retain the nineteen hundred.

so yeah. um. twenty ten is the way to go if you want to be forward thinking ;)

Twenty Ten, definitely.
Last year I was an oh-nine man
I'd like to offer up "Ten Past Eight" for consideration.
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Jan 10 UTC
Then it would be 10 past 20 and 2090 would be 10 till 21?
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Jan 10 UTC
And 2025 could be quarter after 20 and 2050 half past 20.
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Jan 10 UTC
@Thucydides - so right. When we say 1908 we say "nineteen oh eight".
@Zaz - oh-ten... Really? We are going to say 010? It wouldn't be twenty-oh-ten as that would be 20010, 18000 years in the future. I hope you see the flaw in that one...
Two-oh-ten.* Wow, Draugnar, you have put a new meaning to ignorance, to be completely honest.

im pretty sure your never supposed to use 'and' when saying a number. so i think its twenty-ten, which i prefer, or two thousand ten.
spyman (424 D(G))
01 Jan 10 UTC
@iMurk, That's a funny rule. How do you say 2001, or 101 for that matter?
denis (864 D)
01 Jan 10 UTC
Two thousand one
one o one
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Jan 10 UTC
Actually, iMurk is right in that you could say one hundred one, but in German, they do use the and "und" when saying a number. For instance, 69 is neunundsechzig.
eenmage (100 D)
02 Jan 10 UTC
All I know is that people aren't making fun of me as much as they did back in one thousand nine hundred ninety-nine.
'And' is used to represent a decimal. iMurk is correct.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Jan 10 UTC
So, 101.3 would be one hundred one and three tenths? I've always said one hundred one (or one hundred and one) point three.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Jan 10 UTC
The Gregg Reference Manual (5th Edition) gives this example:

seven hundred and twenty-five ('and' may be omitted)

So if you like the way it sounds, you can always appeal to that
citation in case someone makes a fuss.

_The Elements of Style_ (Strunk and White) says that the 'and' should
be retained in the phrase 'one hundred and one', which suggests that
it should not normally be included.

2010=twenty ten, i think coz people are lazy and take the shortest way to say things and still be understandable. like me. it's faster
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Jan 10 UTC
Or it could be 2K10. I've been known to say 2Kx for the last 9 years.

ok. still the same amount of syllables. haha

"'And' is used to represent a decimal. iMurk is correct. "

Are you guys native English speakers? I have never heard this "its incorrect to say and" before.
spyman (424 D(G))
02 Jan 10 UTC
Mabye its an american thing. Or maybe I'm just an idiot ;)
It was just a nine year glitch for me.

1999 - "Ninteen ninety-nine"
2000 - "Two Thousand"
2001 to 2009 "Two THousand One to Two Thousand Nine"
2010 - Back to "Twenty Ten"

We'll get increasingly myopic after Twenty-Twenty.

It might be an American thing Two thousand and Nine sounds overly formal.

But more importantly, why haven't we found a monolith on the moon and started a journey to Jupiter? We are supposed to be returning to Jupiter this year, but we haven't even gone there yet. Doesn't the world know that we are supposed to do exactly as Arthur C. Clarke has written and fulfill his prophecies?
"'And' is used to represent a decimal. iMurk is correct. "

Are you guys native English speakers? I have never heard this "its incorrect to say and" before.

That's what I was taught by my math teachers.
I'm graduating High School this year and we've decided we're the class of twenty ten. I also proposed saying class of oh-ten, as we still have a zero at our disposal, but most people didn'e get it.

@ Crazy Anglican - We usually dropped the "and" so it was just two thousand nine. High School classes were "oh-nine."
Phaedrus (248 D)

Draugnar, ever read Childhood's End? We may not want to be in step with Clarke all of the time. I'm all for Twenty Ten.
"'And' is used to represent a decimal. iMurk is correct. "
I was told off for using "and" that way when we were learning decimals at school (after years of using fractions). Though that was 40 years ago, before pocket calculators.

She didn't like decimals and not because they're too easy. She said "You can't express numbers accurately with decimals. One over three is absolutely accurate but naught point three three three isn't, no matter how many threes you use". Then again, how many of you out there have ever been taught division of two fractions?
