Team descriptions:
1908 Cubs:
This team is sort of the typical Cubs team... swapping all those HRs (this IS the deadball era) for the great pitching of Three Finger Brown. Add in solid defense with Tinkers, Evers, and Chance, and an offense that still hits well, but hits into a LOT of groundouts... and this team is actually WEAK compared to other powerhouses.
1911 Athletics:
These are the Mack Men, and... this is probably the weakest out of all the teams, even though this is a good team, with decent pitching. The offense just seems dead, and they committ a lot of errors... the pitching staff is good, which is a godsend, because they need all the pitching they can get.
1927 Yankees:
Gehrig and Ruth's team. Enough said.
1936 Cardinals:
The Gashouse Gang. Again, enough said.
1954 Giants:
Willie Mays is probably the best offensive player all around in this game, and this Giants lineup is a real Murderer's Row, rivaling that of the '27 Yankees and '75 Reds. But the pitching is the weakest of any team...
1965 Dodgers:
A virtually deadball-esque offense, but Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale and the relievers make this the best pitching staff around in the game overall, and the defense is solid... a good team.
1975 Reds:
The Big Red Machine- Bench, Concepcion, Morgan, Griffey Sr., and on... all that's missing is Pete Rose (no steroid users or gamblers allowed here... hence no Rose or 1919 Black Sox.)
1986 Mets:
My favorite team to play as, as I'm a Mets fan. This team is, like real Mets team, incredibly streaky- Carter, Hernandez, Hojo, Mookie and Straw will be off and running and scoring like mad one day, with Dr. K firing bullets, and the next time come out totally flat. The big dark horse in the league, this team will likely either go far or fizzle out fast.
1991 Twins:
They're pitching staff is all righties, I believe, and that's a BIG drawback... and they don't seem to always pitch too well, either. But good speed and excellent defense along with gutsy hitting make this team the other big darkhorse next to the '86 Mets, and like them, they can either surprise and go far, or die quickly.
2004 Red Sox:
A great team, and one of the best all-around. A powerful offense and a good defense give this team some guts, and while they do have days where they do get blasted, Schilling and Pedro usually are great, with Lowe right there in case something goes wrong...

What NL team will make the NLCS?
