Rules Question
I know you can't dislodge yourself by attacking your own units, and I know you can't dislodge yourself by supporting a foreign unit's attack. But can you dislodge yourself by convoying an opponent's unit into a province you occupy while the opponent supports himself in?

Game play suggestion for the MOD's
Obviously, there is no way to completely capture the live play experience on an online version of the game. The part of the live experience I miss the most is being able to read the eyes and body language of my opponents when we negotiate. This just isn't possible to replicate online.

However there is something that could bring it a little closer to that. When playing live, you know when your opponents are speaking to each other. You don't know what's being said, but you do know they are talking and how long they are conversing. Thus I suggest having a notification system that notifies the other players every time 2 players talk. And maybe even how many words were in their post. This would bring the game even closer to the original. We wouldn't know what was being said but we would know who was talking to who and for how long.

that would flood your inbox.....
if they reply, I at least talk to a lot of people multiple times during a turn. would you get a notification each time I did that you would have more than 20 messages from "me" per turn...

It's an interesting idea Taelisan, but as TheWizard said, I just don't think it's workable to be honest.

Besides, you should assume that every player talks to each other several times a turn! To do otherwise means you are putting yourself at a disadvantage...

Of course you assume that everyone is talking...The idea behind this is to make it closer to the real thing by knowing who is talking to who and when.

As far as the inbox goes, I turn off notification and just check in...Not an issue.

And what keeps people from talking via email or phone. There isn't anything in the rules against it on the site and it would be a perfect deception if your notification system were put in place as you'd still not know they were talking, but would think they weren't.

Not trying to solve anything, just seeing if it were possible to make it a little closer to the live experience.

A reason to institute it though would also be to alert people when people are chatting in a Gunboat or an Open Press game.

As far as email goes, if people want to go that far you can't stop it, but I for one haven't emailed anyone, ever on this site.

I was thinking about this before.
Personally I think it would make an interesting game to make people post in the global chat everytime they send someone a message, but it would also be a lot of press yes!

@Taelisan, the fix for Gunboat and Open Press is to just block the use of the chat channels that should not be used for each variant.

Here's an Idea, instead of individual notafications, the game would have a counter for the number of times they talked to a player and then the total words said. Both of the counters would track activity levels and would continue to count up based on their actions. This would eliminate the amount of press/notifications.
Perhaps a report could be published once a year on everyone's activities for an alternative.

Maybe. I have to say, saying that you can watch when two players go away to talk and from that work out who's with who isn't actually that much. I've gone away for a chat with people before and talked about nothing to do with the game, returned, obviously changed an order, and submitted it.
Thus, given the difficulty that would be required to do it, I don't think this is a worthy addition.

Kusaig - trouble is, a quick alliance can take only a few words. Quantity is not the same as quality.

For example. Germany says to England - "Attack France? You get Bel/Bre & go through Med - I get Paris, Mars, go against Russia later". England then says - "Excellent, let's go for it!"

That could equally be a similar number of words as: Germany to England: "Hi xxxxx - nice to play with you again! Haven't spoken to you for ages, how are you?" England to Germany - "I'm great - nice to see you too!"

I just can't see that working at all - word counters, notification of who speaks to who how often is fairly pointless given different people can ally quickly or slowly!

Variants exist where you can limit the number of words spoken - Gunboat (no press), Touch Dip (only to a neighbouring unit +1 global message a turn) etc. etc. Try those out first!

You could set up a game where players can only communicate through Skype if you want some resemblance to F2F. Body language is of incredible importance.

neutralizing a supporting unit
If a unit (A) attacks a unit (B) that is attacking another unit (C), to try and cut unit C's support for a fourth unit (D). I am right in thinking that unit A has no effect, and that unit B successfully cuts C support for D?
