Rules question - WTA and draws.
1. Can a WTA game end in a draw?
2. If so, how are the points divided when a WTA game ends in a draw?

The game was paused because a member was suspended, and the one remaining vote hasn't logged on for 48 hours (in a 12 hour game).

Rules Question
I know you can't dislodge yourself by attacking your own units, and I know you can't dislodge yourself by supporting a foreign unit's attack. But can you dislodge yourself by convoying an opponent's unit into a province you occupy while the opponent supports himself in?

Game play suggestion for the MOD's
Obviously, there is no way to completely capture the live play experience on an online version of the game. The part of the live experience I miss the most is being able to read the eyes and body language of my opponents when we negotiate. This just isn't possible to replicate online.

neutralizing a supporting unit
If a unit (A) attacks a unit (B) that is attacking another unit (C), to try and cut unit C's support for a fourth unit (D). I am right in thinking that unit A has no effect, and that unit B successfully cuts C support for D?

Can one forfeit a game?
I wish to forfeit or quit a game I am playing, Is there a way to do so other than waiting for someone to buy me out?...

You cannot leave a game you are in other than being eliminated, or by going CD (which is a really good way to get a really bad name around here). Alternatively, you could try to convince everyone else in the game to put all support hold orders in until you CD and someone else buys in, but good luck with that.

when there is no way for me to win, and its down to 3 countries, there is really no reason I should have to continue playing...I'm not quitting, I'm accepting my loss
djbent (2572 D(S))

try to get one of the two others to turn on each other - that way they get a solo win and you get to survive instead of being eliminated. or throw all your defenses at one of them so the other gains more SCs, which may cause a rupture in the alliance. someone else pointed out on here that as long as you have units on the board, you have influence on what happens.
TheWizard (5364 D(S))

of course there is...
Good sportsmanship at the very least, so you don't mess up someone else's game. You wouldn't want that to be done to you either.
The best one though is that you might still be included in a draw, or could come back if the other nations start fighting and maybe want you as an ally.

And I personally don't like joining games with people that have a record of quitting games... and am sure a lot of othe people around think the same... you'll develop a bad reputation that way.
jbalcorn (429 D)

Absolutely. If I discover that someone in a game I'm in tends to quit games, I try to eliminate them early. Is that meta-gaming? Sure! But it's also self-defense - I hate waiting for someone down to 2 or 3 SCs to CD. Play it out - I've been part of a draw when I was down to 2 SCs, and I got a couple of survives from completely losing positions, including one where I went 0SCs on the last turn, but it counted as a survive.

Use the global press to gain sympathy. Offer to help the second major power stop a solo, or offer the soloist your help in return for a survive and a few points in a PPSC game!

And, as a last resort, have some fun with the press! Talk in the global press, root for other people, see if you can use private press to sunder relationships. Theres more fun to be had than just moving pieces around a board.

The least you can do is not turn in any orders. That'll piss everyone off while they have to wait and wait and they'll never want to play with you again.

The second least you can do is just go in and submit your holds and retreats in a timely fashion. Then the other players will be happy to play with you again.

Next, as mentioned above, try to help someone with a solo win to get a survival and some points. And next after that, try to rally the other players against another player, offering to use your units to help them out to stop whoever. Your units may be more useful on the front line than taking your centers and having to move units up from the home centers.

fight it out until the bitter end theres always SOMETHING you can try.

Even if there is nothing you can do. You made a commitment to submit orders.
cteno4 (100 D)

You can always create a multi-account and make it obvious what you're doing, and then you can get both accounts b& on this site. That's a legitimate way to end a losing game without going CD!

The drawback is that you'll get kicked out of ALL your games. Not recommended.

You must have a nice life, you know, winning at every single thing that you do.

Or else, you're the guy on the team that nobody wants because you stop trying when you start losing.
jbalcorn (429 D)
29 Apr 09 UTC
@pooter, sounds like second choice. Except everyone around him is probably the same. Video game generation - not going well, just quit and start over. No commitment to anything. When I owned a company, I discovered that 20-somethings tended to bail the moment things got a little tough. Had a couple walk out because life wasn't perfect - didn't shed a tear over them either.

Other parents sometimes think I'm too hard on my kids, but I _never_ allow them to bail on a commitment. If they join a team, they go to practice and every game. It drives me nuts that my kids are the only ones that show up when they're injured to sit on the sideline - other kids just stay home if they can't play. Also, every group project my kids are involved in, at least one group member does nothing. I make sure the teacher knows who helped and who didn't, although my kids don't know I do that - they turn in the project as a team, because team comes first.

Am I really that different?

There is on way to do it but it is kind of a bug. All you have to do is get 18 sc and the game will be over and you will be out. Try it it works.
Onar (131 D)

It's a shame, but I'm a part of that videogame generation. When I'm losing a game, I usually try to suicide it, so I can try again some other time.
jbalcorn (429 D)
29 Apr 09 UTC
That's fine in video games. The problem is when that attitude carries on into real life, or into a situation where it affects other people.
pootercannon (326 D)
29 Apr 09 UTC
I guess I'm just really competitive, but I hate losing, so even if I'm just totally wrecked in a game, I'm going to keep trying until I'm totally dead.

JB: I agree with you 100%. I'm in my early thirties and, because I work in real estate, I deal with a LOT of college-age people. The stories of incompetence, quitting, and ignorance that I could tell you are staggering. But I'm glad to see that you are at least doing your part to make sure the disease doesn't spread to your family.

ugh our 'videogame generation' is so frowned upon
