I watched it on tv (BBC) and i was impressed. Unfortunately the oath of office was a bit bungled though.

He should of had everyone there pledge allegiance to the flag.

I actually enjoyed the fact that he bungled the oath of office. Was a very human moment.

It's interesting how America struggled to shed the controls of monarchy, only to treat their leaders as kings at coronations. At the end of the day, they are civil servants paid by the taxpayers to work, not spend millions to party.

ok was it me or were the flags drapped down the building backwards?

I enjoyed it very much, but have no illusions that America will recognize the world's multipolarity anytime soon. Americans are still "#1!" and Obama is not about to tell them otherwise.

On the other hand, Europe can learn a lot from America and I hope it will.

@trim - the stars are always supposed to be in the upper left corner of the flag, whether it's positioned Hoeizontal or Vertical. It seems like it's backwards, because if you wereto see the flag in it's normal position, horizontal, then just let it rotate so that it is in a vertical position, then the stars would be on the upper-right. But it wouldn't "see" backwards, because you can visualize the1/4 turn in the clockwize direction to get it there.

The propper way though, is to turn the flag around (US flags are alwaays double sided (maybe for this reason?) and hang it so that the stars are in the upper left.

@Captain Canuck - this wasn't a typical coronation - ahem, innaguration. Most of the time, it's no where near this big of a deal. But this is the Chosen One, after all. And we in America prefer to think of it, not as the Coronation of a King, but rather as the Assention of the Messiah.

Actually, last time was also a big deal. As in, the one with the egg throwing and protests.
