Retreating
What happens when two powers try to retreat their losing units to the same place? Do both get disbanded? If one has an alternative line of retreat, does it get sent there automatically?

Does anyone know?

Hiroshima/Nagasaki
Did the atomic bombs save lives or end them? How costly would a U.S. invasion of Japan have been? Were the atomic bombs good or bad? Discuss. Assume that the Cold War would have still occurred, and that the U.S. received no support from any other Allied nations.

Holding and Supporting Units
Does a supporting unit defend the same as a holding unit? I mean, If I'm supporting a region and someone attacks me, do I lose and retreat? or It just break the support?

Conversation History
I was wondering if there was any way to access the history of a conversation in the Global thread beyond the maximum amount that it will show normally. There was a certain element of the discussion that we're looking to readdress in order to foster a discussion regarding some 'game etiquette' in an outside forum, namely some accusations of slander being brandied about, but we don't have access to the logs to indicate the validity of such accusations.

Gaming experience
How would compare the experience of playing Diplomacy online versus playing in real life? I haven't had a physical game of Diplomacy ever, so I would like to hear your opinions! E.g. I guess "global chat" is more promiment in a physical game, and "private chat" more cumbersome.

Another hypothetical WWII scenario
How much longer would the war in Europe been if Hitler had managed to conquer England. How long would it have taken for America to liberate England, assuming they had the full cooperation of the Brits? This is hypothetical, so please don't argue over the plausibility of Operation Sea Lion. (Germany's plot to invade England)

I could have sworn that I finalized a set of retreat orders earlier, but suddenly I had to do them again just now. Did something happen in the last several hours? Should I be checking all my orders I did around the same time?

Taft: So fat he got stuck in the bathtub.
See diplomacy people thread.

Thucydides (864 D(B))

Someone once said of Taft:

"[He is] your absolute favorite [president], even considering guys like Jefferson, Madison, TRoos, FRoos, Lincoln, etc. Taft is your favorite?"

Well, for one he was provincial governor of the Philippines, not a lot of Americans held that post. He actually had respect for the Filipinos at a time when everyone was racist practically, including his one-time friend turned rival Teddy Roosevelt.

Nothing really went wrong when he was President. That's all anyone can hope for. He done good.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Well some dude was like, "why is he your favorite pres" to Invictus I think and I wanted to put a good word in for the guy
philcore (317 D(S))
16 Jan 09 UTC
"someone"? "some guy"?

That was me thuc! I'm not just "some guy" am I? I thought I meant something to you! I thought we had something!!

but seriously, Taft was as good if not better president as Warren Harding or William Henry Harrison. I would never take anything from Taft. Hell, He was the president when AZ became a state fer chrissake!!

But really invictus, Jefferson, Madison, TRoos, Polk, those guys made a difference in what the country is today. Taft was just ... well ... fat!
Invictus (240 D)
16 Jan 09 UTC
Maybe I should clarify. I Taft is my favorite President because he's the ideal of what I think a presidency should be. There were no crises when he was President. The economy was good. People were happy. I'd rather live in a boring Taft administration than an exciting Jefferson or Polk or Lincoln or FDR one.

And you all know you would too.

Invictus take on Taft reminds me of a curse. "May you live in interesting times."

Polk's presidency was probably a lot of fun though. Lol.

Taft: the best four letter president... with the possible exceptions of Polk and Ford.

"I don't remember that I ever was President." - Taft (who viewed his later appointment to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to be his greatest honor)
philcore (317 D(S))
17 Jan 09 UTC
That's awesome! Taft isn't even Taft's favorite president!!
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Invictus (240 D)

Not really. Clinton didn't do enough when things needed to be done, while Taft didn't do things just for the sake of doing them.
