Something I've never seen
I think I'm joining the party who claims that there should be no secondary objectives (like ensuring Yourself a place within the first 3 or similar) in games besides winning the game. I find it pretty unbelievable that 3! corner countries could cooperate against the rest of the countries for 1,5 decades without making a single move against each-other. Not trying to be a sour loser, but this is really amazing. I will comment further after the game is finished, but I simply had to burst out the emotion.

No points and no game.
I seem to have been caught one of the games that disappeared. I signed on to a 100pt game. That game disappeared and so I have no points. Do I get reset to 100 as some point?

Bye bye
Well. I heard enough. All this people: Wooble, mightyrobot, Anlari, TimuraKhan, The Mahatma, Raga, El_Perro_Artero, dangermouse, Thucydides, jesuschrist, haer, Locke, gokhan1735, aoe3rules, think different than me. They are clearlly more than the people who agreed with me. So it is time to step aside.I will finish my games, but I will not answer to any press. Bye bye.

Supporting a convoy
I'm not sure how to successfully support a convoy. FOR EXAMPLE

(this is completely fabricated)
Germany wants to convoy from Kiel to Livonia
Austrian Army in Warsaw agrees to support.

How would austria designate the order to support Germany's convoyed unit?

Of Warp Factors and Wookies.........
OK, for some reason, the Holiday Season puts me in a Sci-Fi mood. Since we've done the whole "Greatest Diplomacy player" thing, and basically drew between Bismark, Alexander, and Ghengis Khah (still think Alexander should have won), let's do Sci-Fi: if you want, of course.

There will be three heats- a Trek Heat, a Wars heat, and then, the winners of each heat will move on, and then we'll combine the two lists, figure out who got the 3rd most votes, then 4th, etc, until we have 7 players for the final.

So, in the Trek heat we have:

Kirk
Spock
Picard
Data
Sisko
Worf
Janeway
Khan (Gotta do it: KKKKKHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!)

In the Wars heat:

Anakin/Vader
Luke
Padme
Leia
Yoda
Palpatine
Obi-Wan

Sorry if your favorite didn't make the list................

Shalom, Live long and prosper, and May the Force be with you!

(Wow- I AM a huge nerd- ah well.)

dip awards 2007
the year is finalizing and the awards has come in so we can get an idea of who's who in 2007.

best dip playing site; stabbeurfou.org

best dip forum; phpdiplomacy

best extra feautures in a dip site; bounced

best dip graphic; php diplomacy

new player of the year; pitirre

best game of the year; paranoid eyes

best stabber of the year; pitirre (with a 5 consecutive stabs to the same player)

best country to play in this year; france

and the best dip player of the year ; rait

thank very much for the nominees and better luck next year, 2008...and keep lying, backstabbing and make older people cry.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
Is there any logic behind this? For example, you rated yourself as best stabber - what evidence do you have that there are not better stabbers than yourself? You chose paranoid eye's as the best game, again not surprising as you were in it. Did you look back through all the year or just through your own history - for example there were many brilliant games on this site before you even joined. Back around easter there were several very impressive Mastermind games - did you look at those?
I think you get my point...

it is not my fault that the games when i started to play this started to improve in the world of diplomacy.

and winning the "best new player" category is not necessarily about winning games it includes style of negotiation, consistency, creative tactics and strategy and/or of course winning.

im sorry if one of you feels bad or mad that you didnt win anything but it wasnt my decision, it was the committee of diplomacy game consisting of distinguish and objectives fellow players.

and i think they voted correctly.

When was this vote out of interest?
If you have done this fairly, you'll know that every user since #588 joined this year, so many people already considered veterans are new for 2007. Indeed, how can someone win the best player catagory, and yet not the newcomer? Rait joined this year, yet you claim you are better than him. In that case, how come you didn't win best player as well?
That should be enough faults for now..!

26 Dec 07 UTC
Well, I'm just trying to work out how this happened, and having 2007 awards yet only going for the last third of the year doesn't seem fair to me, and i never saw anything about a committee. No, I don't think i should have won, I just still don't understand how Rait didn't win best new player. He was new for 2007, and is the best player on the site.
Verdict: Seriously Biased
Rait (10151 D(S))
26 Dec 07 UTC
Let it go fig - the way I see this is that it was a good joke & pitirre didn't even try to be statistically valid or unbiased, don't take it so seriously :) I really couldn't care less who takes the prizes of the year - I could as well create a new list of nominees (putting myself to the first place, or You fig), create new categories or whatever :)
mightyrobot (202 D)
26 Dec 07 UTC
As I understand the committee rules, "new player of the year" is not the same as "best new player". "New player of the year" goes to the best backstabbing, lying, making-old-people-crying new player who's name begins with the secret letter of the year. The letter this year happened to be "P", eliminating any chance for most of us.
isbian (106 D)
26 Dec 07 UTC
If this thread was actually intended to be a real board of awards, then the awards were decided by a biased committee consisting mostly (if not entirely) of pitirre's friends, who were probably so glad to get on the committee they immediately voted for him/her.

If this was a joke, it wasted dozens of lines of code.

crimson, just ignore goddamnit... the prizes for this year have already been awarded, and it would be unfair to organize voting again. let's wait for next year
crimson (501 D)
26 Dec 07 UTC
"organize voting" - hah. Again, a small pocket of people claiming anything for the overall system/site is just silly. Fidgle, Thuy, et al are right.

And yes, I will ignore after calling out the lameness [wish there was an ignore thread/user/digg down button in this system], so the thread shows it isn't representative. I don't care otherwise...

Beware these Players (One Player?)
The players are Putin, Tsar, Comrade and Spetznatz. I am currently playing in Fast Players in which I was informed by these players that they are allied because they all know each other in "real life", go to the same high school and participate in a model UN together. Pre game alliances make for boring and predictable games. Fcuk that shit. As I mulled over whether to abandon the game on principle I began to suspect these players were the same person. A scan of their games shows a pattern of playing together. They mysteriously log on within minutes of each other in quick succesion year after year. When I gave these players a heads up of an outing on the forum, they all responded with 1 minute. If not the same player, their level of collusion is troubling. It brings no fun to the game played this way. Kestas, I am asking if you could please investigate and shut down this game.

Acused of metagame (diegohb & ssabia)
On the game "Isaac newton" Anlari is acusing me (and Ssabia). He is suspicious because Russia (Ssabia) is attacking Germany (Anlari) after Germany was keeping Russia out of sweden from the beggining.
In the first game I won, Ssabia finished 2nd. Despite the fact that ssabia and I had won games on our own, when we play a game together there is always a smart ass acusing us of metagame (and some other stupid who believe this) . And that leave us with no choice of allies, and therefore, we must work together.
Please, analize the case end post your opinion. If enough people think I am guilty of metagame, I will quit this game.

Anti-Anlari crusade (vote here)
Please vote here YES or NO if you agree with this suggested changes:

1) Implementation of some sort of ip-verification-system (to stop multiaccounters)
2) Anonymous games. (to stop the false acussations)
3) Winner takes all points (no points for 2nd place) and in case of draw the points are divided equally between the drawers.

Please, do not discuss here (use the other post).

Anti-Anlari crusade (discuss here)
Hello. I saw enough games ruined by characters like Anlari. To stop this desease, I suggest 3 changes to this website:

1) The hardest to accomplish. We need some sort of ip-verication-system to stop the multi-accounters (or to make the job hardest for them)

2) This is very simple. The games should be ANONYMOUS. That means, none knows the identity of the other players until the game is finished. That way you stop the "Anlari" behaivior ("XXX is metagaming!!! look at game YYY!!! Do not ally with him!!! etc etc)

3) This one is simple too. Lets bring back to life the true spirit of the game. On the Diplomacy Rulebook (4th Edition (C) 2000 Hasbro) is writted: "As soon as one Great Power controls 18 supply centers, it is considered to have gained control of Europe. The player representing that Great Power is the winner. However, players can end the game by agreement before a winner is determined. In that case, all players who still have pieces on the board share equally in a draw". If we apply this to the point sistem: a) the rulebook says there is only 1 winner, so the winner takes all the points (no points for 2nd place). b) if a draw is declared, the poins are divided equally between the players who survived (no matter how many units).

Please, discuss here and please vote YES or NO (to the suggested changes) in the other post.
