Something I've never seen
I think I'm joining the party who claims that there should be no secondary objectives (like ensuring Yourself a place within the first 3 or similar) in games besides winning the game. I find it pretty unbelievable that 3! corner countries could cooperate against the rest of the countries for 1,5 decades without making a single move against each-other. Not trying to be a sour loser, but this is really amazing. I will comment further after the game is finished, but I simply had to burst out the emotion.

No points and no game.
I seem to have been caught one of the games that disappeared. I signed on to a 100pt game. That game disappeared and so I have no points. Do I get reset to 100 as some point?

Bye bye
Well. I heard enough. All this people: Wooble, mightyrobot, Anlari, TimuraKhan, The Mahatma, Raga, El_Perro_Artero, dangermouse, Thucydides, jesuschrist, haer, Locke, gokhan1735, aoe3rules, think different than me. They are clearlly more than the people who agreed with me. So it is time to step aside.I will finish my games, but I will not answer to any press. Bye bye.

Supporting a convoy
I'm not sure how to successfully support a convoy. FOR EXAMPLE

(this is completely fabricated)
Germany wants to convoy from Kiel to Livonia
Austrian Army in Warsaw agrees to support.

How would austria designate the order to support Germany's convoyed unit?

Of Warp Factors and Wookies.........
OK, for some reason, the Holiday Season puts me in a Sci-Fi mood. Since we've done the whole "Greatest Diplomacy player" thing, and basically drew between Bismark, Alexander, and Ghengis Khah (still think Alexander should have won), let's do Sci-Fi: if you want, of course.

There will be three heats- a Trek Heat, a Wars heat, and then, the winners of each heat will move on, and then we'll combine the two lists, figure out who got the 3rd most votes, then 4th, etc, until we have 7 players for the final.

So, in the Trek heat we have:

Kirk
Spock
Picard
Data
Sisko
Worf
Janeway
Khan (Gotta do it: KKKKKHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!)

In the Wars heat:

Anakin/Vader
Luke
Padme
Leia
Yoda
Palpatine
Obi-Wan

Sorry if your favorite didn't make the list................

Shalom, Live long and prosper, and May the Force be with you!

(Wow- I AM a huge nerd- ah well.)

Beware these Players (One Player?)
The players are Putin, Tsar, Comrade and Spetznatz. I am currently playing in Fast Players in which I was informed by these players that they are allied because they all know each other in "real life", go to the same high school and participate in a model UN together. Pre game alliances make for boring and predictable games. Fcuk that shit. As I mulled over whether to abandon the game on principle I began to suspect these players were the same person. A scan of their games shows a pattern of playing together. They mysteriously log on within minutes of each other in quick succesion year after year. When I gave these players a heads up of an outing on the forum, they all responded with 1 minute. If not the same player, their level of collusion is troubling. It brings no fun to the game played this way. Kestas, I am asking if you could please investigate and shut down this game.

Acused of metagame (diegohb & ssabia)
On the game "Isaac newton" Anlari is acusing me (and Ssabia). He is suspicious because Russia (Ssabia) is attacking Germany (Anlari) after Germany was keeping Russia out of sweden from the beggining.
In the first game I won, Ssabia finished 2nd. Despite the fact that ssabia and I had won games on our own, when we play a game together there is always a smart ass acusing us of metagame (and some other stupid who believe this) . And that leave us with no choice of allies, and therefore, we must work together.
Please, analize the case end post your opinion. If enough people think I am guilty of metagame, I will quit this game.

Mightyrobot, you must check your head. You must see a doctor. I never said Ssabia is my friend. He is spanish, I am argentinian. I dont know him in real like. We do not comit to team play before the game. And it is because of stupid cowards suspicious bad losers like you and Anlari that we (ssabia & me) where practIcally forced to form an alliance in most of our games. Take this game for example. Anlari acuse us of metagaming when there is no evidence of that in the game and there is a hole lot of idiots who believe him. That leaves us with practically no choice of allies. Got the idea? Do you want me to draw a picture for you?
mightyrobot (202 D)
26 Dec 07 UTC
I'm not going to argue with you, because I doubt it would be productive. But you imply that there is a history of other players (not just me and Anlari) accusing you of suspiciuous behavior in your games. Maybe you should ask yourself why?

mightyrobot, that's your personal opinion, again playing with someone you know IRL is not forbidden. allying with same player in many games too. making rules against that is much more against the spirit of the game

nothing is more annoying than a russian player who bitches when germany blocks russia from sweden. it is the single most irritating gripe in this game.

on another note, i got home for christmas - and snatched my old diplomacy board! never actually played diplomacy before this site - nobody ever wanted to. so i would, uh, play games where i played all seven nations. yea, it was no good.

>stupid cowards suspicious bad losers.

Anlari, you arrived to a conclusion based in no evidence... that makes you a stupid suspicious.
And you told that in private to other players of the game to put them on your side... that makes you a coward.
You look for excuses outside the game when you are loosing... that makes you a bad looser.
Raga (140 D)
27 Dec 07 UTC
"Anlari, you arrived to a conclusion based in no evidence"

he's openly said multiple times in this forum that he was only bringing it up in private and not in public because he realized that he didnt have any solid evidence, he was asking an innocent question. you're the one who blew everything out of proportion with this thread.

"And you told that in private to other players of the game to put them on your side... that makes you a coward."

Its called playing the game. Every person he can turn against you, makes it easy on him. It's called "mudslinging" and has been a part of this country and its politics since about the 1828 election of Andrew Jackson.

@ Mightyrobot:

Although I see your point, I think you missed mine. You said that players would know "100%" that their friend would committ to an alliance. On the contrary they cannot truly know 100%; the possibility of a backstab is ever-present. Also, you compare extra-game alliances to multi-accounting, I disagree here as well, because a multi-accounter would never be able to lie to himself, and betray himself, whereas two friends very well could. The fact that they are friends doesn't limit this possibility. The fact is, I play with friends, and backstabbing goes on there just as much. Moreover, there is no way to regulate whether or not two friends are playing together and "meta-gaming." Proof is impossible to come by.
anlari (8640 D)
27 Dec 07 UTC
Just for clarification, I only talked to one player about it and my exact phrasing was "He is probably classmates with Russia" which is just a remark that does not suggest much more implied than personal suspicion.

In fact, I was told about the issue by another player (who shall not be named to spare him from your Unholy Vengeance) with some less than satisfactory evidence (similar to the stuff brought up against me & Rait) which I shall not bother with bringing up here.
Raga (140 D)
27 Dec 07 UTC
Also, backing up Thucydides' point, knowing them in real life may also prompt them to backstab, because of little grudges they have against you.

For example, one time in RL, i backstabbed some of my friends to try and win the game. Next time we played, which was many months later, they were very eager to get revenge. Knowing someone makes it easier to hold a grudge if you ask me.
diegohb (470 D)

No raga. When you bring into a game issues that are external to the game that is NOT playing the game. That is Metagame.

figlesquidge: yeah, i've tried that too. it's no fun, really. i've won every single game, but i've lost every single game. me is too good to beat, no matter how many times i beat him. he always wins. he must be controlling all of the other countries or something. i can't even beat me when i use all of the countries on the whole board against me. it's so frustrating.
Davetroll (100 D)
28 Dec 07 UTC
hmm. did you try talking to you, and seeing if you had a grudge aginst you? or perhaps you're ganging up on you. or mabe you are playing with multiple accounts just so you can beat you with your help. try not to anger you, and maybe you will find it easier to beat you in the next game you play with you, you, you, you, you, you and you.
anlari (8640 D)
28 Dec 07 UTC
I quit playing against me when I found all of the other 6 players were actually the same person (me) and it was a huge metagaming plot :(
Davetroll (100 D)
28 Dec 07 UTC
hmm. i sympathise anlari, i really do.
The sad thing about this thread is it seems to represent a slow transformation of phpdiplomacy. A year ago, when i joined, there was a really great community on here. that was possibly the second best thing about this site. Sadly, there now seems to be a lot of accusations flying, and enormous amounts of cheating supposedly happening. I myself was accused of cheating in one of the games i was just knocked out of. seriously, I am not a cheat, and all this name calling, and telling tales is so childish. The game is intended to be fun. I plea, if only for my own sake, stop. If you think someone is cheating, report it privately to an admin. Otherwise, ignore it, and dont make it spoil your game..

Please, this cant be the site i signed up for.
diegohb (470 D)
28 Dec 07 UTC
Do not worry Davetroll. I will not play here anymore. So everybody can keep on trowin accusations (like Anlari & mightyrobot) like it was the more natural thing in the world. On a world of men, when you trow a false accusation you get your ass kick. Here, you get a full comunity backing you up and a hug.
Davetroll (100 D)
28 Dec 07 UTC
To be honest Diegohb I don't care whether you metagame or not. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you enjoy playing, and so does everyone else. If you're not happy with the game as it stands, make a suggestion. If accussations are flying at you, tell kestas privately, and let it rest. I personally feel that if you go then it only proves how sad people are that they have driven you out. Seriously, I don't condemn you for starting this thread, as the subject matter is affecting your enjoyment, but what is there to be gained from bickering like my 11 year old sister?

Just as an aside, I am going on holiday for a week, anyone in any of my active games can feel free to break any truces with me that have stood.
Davetroll (100 D)
28 Dec 07 UTC
aah, i'm not saying that you are like my 11 year old sister, or trying to insult you, just saying that this thread is giving me the earache she often does. please, no offence intended. if you feel offended then you have my sincerest apologies

Please vote here YES or NO if you agree with this suggested changes:

1) Implementation of some sort of ip-verification-system (to stop multiaccounters)
2) Anonymous games. (to stop the false acussations)
3) Winner takes all points (no points for 2nd place) and in case of draw the points are divided equally between the drawers.

Please, do not discuss here (use the other post).

Anti-Anlari crusade (discuss here)
Hello. I saw enough games ruined by characters like Anlari. To stop this desease, I suggest 3 changes to this website:

1) The hardest to accomplish. We need some sort of ip-verication-system to stop the multi-accounters (or to make the job hardest for them)

2) This is very simple. The games should be ANONYMOUS. That means, none knows the identity of the other players until the game is finished. That way you stop the "Anlari" behaivior ("XXX is metagaming!!! look at game YYY!!! Do not ally with him!!! etc etc)

3) This one is simple too. Lets bring back to life the true spirit of the game. On the Diplomacy Rulebook (4th Edition (C) 2000 Hasbro) is writted: "As soon as one Great Power controls 18 supply centers, it is considered to have gained control of Europe. The player representing that Great Power is the winner. However, players can end the game by agreement before a winner is determined. In that case, all players who still have pieces on the board share equally in a draw". If we apply this to the point sistem: a) the rulebook says there is only 1 winner, so the winner takes all the points (no points for 2nd place). b) if a draw is declared, the poins are divided equally between the players who survived (no matter how many units).

Please, discuss here and please vote YES or NO (to the suggested changes) in the other post.
