Something I've never seen
I think I'm joining the party who claims that there should be no secondary objectives (like ensuring Yourself a place within the first 3 or similar) in games besides winning the game. I find it pretty unbelievable that 3! corner countries could cooperate against the rest of the countries for 1,5 decades without making a single move against each-other. Not trying to be a sour loser, but this is really amazing. I will comment further after the game is finished, but I simply had to burst out the emotion.

No points and no game.
I seem to have been caught one of the games that disappeared. I signed on to a 100pt game. That game disappeared and so I have no points. Do I get reset to 100 as some point?

Bye bye
Well. I heard enough. All this people: Wooble, mightyrobot, Anlari, TimuraKhan, The Mahatma, Raga, El_Perro_Artero, dangermouse, Thucydides, jesuschrist, haer, Locke, gokhan1735, aoe3rules, think different than me. They are clearlly more than the people who agreed with me. So it is time to step aside.I will finish my games, but I will not answer to any press. Bye bye.

Supporting a convoy
I'm not sure how to successfully support a convoy. FOR EXAMPLE

(this is completely fabricated)
Germany wants to convoy from Kiel to Livonia
Austrian Army in Warsaw agrees to support.

How would austria designate the order to support Germany's convoyed unit?

Of Warp Factors and Wookies.........
OK, for some reason, the Holiday Season puts me in a Sci-Fi mood. Since we've done the whole "Greatest Diplomacy player" thing, and basically drew between Bismark, Alexander, and Ghengis Khah (still think Alexander should have won), let's do Sci-Fi: if you want, of course.

There will be three heats- a Trek Heat, a Wars heat, and then, the winners of each heat will move on, and then we'll combine the two lists, figure out who got the 3rd most votes, then 4th, etc, until we have 7 players for the final.

So, in the Trek heat we have:

Kirk
Spock
Picard
Data
Sisko
Worf
Janeway
Khan (Gotta do it: KKKKKHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!)

In the Wars heat:

Anakin/Vader
Luke
Padme
Leia
Yoda
Palpatine
Obi-Wan

Sorry if your favorite didn't make the list................

Shalom, Live long and prosper, and May the Force be with you!

(Wow- I AM a huge nerd- ah well.)

Beware these Players (One Player?)
The players are Putin, Tsar, Comrade and Spetznatz. I am currently playing in Fast Players in which I was informed by these players that they are allied because they all know each other in "real life", go to the same high school and participate in a model UN together. Pre game alliances make for boring and predictable games. Fcuk that shit. As I mulled over whether to abandon the game on principle I began to suspect these players were the same person. A scan of their games shows a pattern of playing together. They mysteriously log on within minutes of each other in quick succesion year after year. When I gave these players a heads up of an outing on the forum, they all responded with 1 minute. If not the same player, their level of collusion is troubling. It brings no fun to the game played this way. Kestas, I am asking if you could please investigate and shut down this game.
i.e. Fast Players Only Game ID #2516 http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=2516

I am in this game also. Every single turn they make is within minutes of each other. Even if they were VERY close friends, they would not be able to log on within a minute of the previous person for each turn. I do not think they live together and wake up at exactly the same time, and then they go to bed at the same time too. Even if this was true, they would log off at the same time, not a couple minutes later.
whatusername (100 D)

Well could it be possible that the only times they play are when they're together at sohool or someplace?
Karkand (2167 D)
23 Dec 07 UTC
No ,its not possible. Call the filthy cheaters out and BAN! Trial by stone!
mastadisasta (100 D)
23 Dec 07 UTC
They would log out at the same time if they played together at school or whatever, not 1 or 2 minutes later for each one. Also, They would have to live together to do this for every turn they make

keeper0018 (100 D)
23 Dec 07 UTC
the game even looks like they're all one person... france (Spetznatz) looks like he's leaving himself open for germany (Putin), and germany (Putin) looks like he's leaving himself open for england (Comrade)... also, here's the creation dates for all of the accounts...

Comrade- Wednesday, December 12th
Spetznatz- Sunday, December 16th
Tsar- Sunday, December 16th
Putin- Thursday, December 20th

the only reason im making a big deal out of this is a) i hate multi-accounters, and b) Comrade is in one of my more serious games, and i want to know if i can trust him. kestas, BAN THEM!
Thucydides (864 D(B))
24 Dec 07 UTC
If you ban him, he will just make more accounts. I wish there was a way to counter that, maybe a confirmation e-mail...

By the way, in case there was any doubt, they really are multi-accounters, I know the guy in RL, he's gonna kill me for ratting him out but I feel it's my duty.
Kilinari (100 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
You know him? Were you aware of his multi-accounting?
saulberardo (2111 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
a confirmation by email (also a limitation) would be a good idea. Most people don't have various mail accounts. And also, we could have to put more personal information to register. Most multi-accounts would be discouraged to create a new account with false information...
Thucydides (864 D(B))

hmm detecting multiaccounters is a tough problem, one of the ways in which this can be done is by logging ip addresses and as soon as the same ip logs in with different login id's that ip and both accounts should be banned.
Kestas,I could help out with this part of code since i have some amount of experience in online fraud detection.
Of course this is not foolproof since .... (not giving ideas)!
mikeman (100 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
Well, the email thing is stupid because most people do have several email accounts on different hosts. The ip thing is a decent idea, although, if you actually had friends over, you couldn't play on the same connection.
saulberardo (2111 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
we can't prevent absolutely multi-accounters. Bu there are some mesures that can be usefull to discourage then. It's why I think the email confirmation could be a good idea...
poiu (100 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
The IP tracker also wouldn't work because some workplaces have multiple computers with the same address. And, some players here on the site have mentioned that they possess more than one account so that they can play more games at one time. While it is debatable whether this lowers the quality of play for those games, I'm sure those players would not appreciate having both of their accounts banned.

I'm not sure if you've all been here long enough, but Kestas has revealed in the past that he does have anti-fraud methods in use. For obvious reasons, he hasn't told us what they are, since then people would know what to do to beat them.
haer (433 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
Yes, tracking the ip-adress and autobanning is not a good thing.
But it should be tracked (and i'm sure it is).
Someone doing what there players are doing and doing it from the same ip should be proof enough.

i have an idea. on a different game, Unification Wars (gamestotal.com), after you and another player have been on the same IP, you're not allowed to send money to each other. how about after you and someone else log on to the same IP, you're never allowed to join another game they're already in?
Comrade (100 D)

ok I surrender, i will stop using all the account except my original, Comrade. sorry it got WAY out of hand.

Acused of metagame (diegohb & ssabia)
On the game "Isaac newton" Anlari is acusing me (and Ssabia). He is suspicious because Russia (Ssabia) is attacking Germany (Anlari) after Germany was keeping Russia out of sweden from the beggining.
In the first game I won, Ssabia finished 2nd. Despite the fact that ssabia and I had won games on our own, when we play a game together there is always a smart ass acusing us of metagame (and some other stupid who believe this) . And that leave us with no choice of allies, and therefore, we must work together.
Please, analize the case end post your opinion. If enough people think I am guilty of metagame, I will quit this game.

Anti-Anlari crusade (vote here)
Please vote here YES or NO if you agree with this suggested changes:

1) Implementation of some sort of ip-verification-system (to stop multiaccounters)
2) Anonymous games. (to stop the false acussations)
3) Winner takes all points (no points for 2nd place) and in case of draw the points are divided equally between the drawers.

Please, do not discuss here (use the other post).

Anti-Anlari crusade (discuss here)
Hello. I saw enough games ruined by characters like Anlari. To stop this desease, I suggest 3 changes to this website:

1) The hardest to accomplish. We need some sort of ip-verication-system to stop the multi-accounters (or to make the job hardest for them)

2) This is very simple. The games should be ANONYMOUS. That means, none knows the identity of the other players until the game is finished. That way you stop the "Anlari" behaivior ("XXX is metagaming!!! look at game YYY!!! Do not ally with him!!! etc etc)

3) This one is simple too. Lets bring back to life the true spirit of the game. On the Diplomacy Rulebook (4th Edition (C) 2000 Hasbro) is writted: "As soon as one Great Power controls 18 supply centers, it is considered to have gained control of Europe. The player representing that Great Power is the winner. However, players can end the game by agreement before a winner is determined. In that case, all players who still have pieces on the board share equally in a draw". If we apply this to the point sistem: a) the rulebook says there is only 1 winner, so the winner takes all the points (no points for 2nd place). b) if a draw is declared, the poins are divided equally between the players who survived (no matter how many units).

Please, discuss here and please vote YES or NO (to the suggested changes) in the other post.
