Help me buy a scientific computing desktop
Inspired by the other thread, can I ask you guys for some more advice? I'm looking to buy a desktop for $1000-2000, to use for my work in the lab. Almost every project I do has a serious numerical computation component to it, so I want to max out on computational power. I don't care about graphics though.

Trump: Ban ALL Muslims from entering the USA

NEWS FLASH!

Politicians often say things when campaigning that they know have zero chance of ever enacting.

It doesn't matter whether he'd enact it, Jeff. It's what it tells us about what an ignorant wanker he is.

Jamie, the good news is that Trump has just lost a lot of potential votes, I suspect very few of the loyal American citizens of the Islamic faith will support him, and this sort of stuff from Trump only isolated him from the "middle ground" . I think he'll lose far more votes from the "centre" than he'll gain. I'll bet the professional political operators in the Republican party are horrified at what they know is a strategic blunder by Trump

An ignorant wanker that's winning u.s vote support for saying and thinking like that.

"Trump should be banned"

Err yes, because you're so tolerant and liberal right?

He is a U.S. citizen doing nothing wrong and breaking no laws. What is YOUR problem?

Most, if not all, of the Muslims that Trump is proposing to ban from travelling to America are doing nothing wrong and breaking no laws. What is HIS problem?

@MajorMitchell: "I'll bet the professional political operators in the Republican party are horrified at what they know is a strategic blunder by Trump"

Professional political operators in the Republican party would be delighted to see Trump make strategic blunders and go down in flames. Trump isn't who they want representing them in the general; the establishment candidates are Jeb, Rubio, Christie, and Kasich. Unfortunately for them, Trump's support springs from a combination of nativism and anti-establishment sentiment among a large and loud minority of the Republican party. This comment will do little to tank Trump among those voters.

The good news for people who want Trump gone is that he's one of the most disliked candidates in the primary; it's relatively unlikely that he will pick up more support as other candidates drop out. This is true even among anti-establishment candidates; Carson's voters are more likely to go to Cruz, for example. Witness recent Iowa polling, where Carson has cratered and Cruz has skyrocketed.

(Of course, if the anti-establishment faction of the Republican party flocks to Cruz on top of the evangelicals, then Republicans have an entirely new problem on their hands. But that's another story.)

You may well be right Lethologica, maybe it's the professional s in the Clinton camp and Democratic party who are dismayed, on your reasoning, they'd possibly want to run against Trump.
I think Jamiet99uk looks at US politics from across the Atlantic "puddle" and similarly I view it from across the Pacific pond.
So I'm not that well informed

"(Of course, if the anti-establishment faction of the Republican party flocks to Cruz on top of the evangelicals, then Republicans have an entirely new problem on their hands. But that's another story.)"

This would please me greatly. Cruz is positioning himself to pick up those who leave Carson and (eventually) Trump.

Professionals in the Republican party are dismayed because it is forcing the establishment candidates to veer hard right on policies they really wanted to not deal with at all. Anything and everything the eventual GOP nominee says now will be used against them next fall.

What I'm really interested to see is when Trump loses the nomination if he runs as a 3rd party, splitting the GOP in half.

Yep. Petulant Trump keeps reminding the GOP that they have to "treat him fairly"...

What i want to see is a reasonable system where third or fourth party candidates don't ruin each others chances...

Look at how badly first past the post works in the UK, explicitally favouring established candidates. Each little constituency there has the same issues as the US presidential system (sans the insanity that is the electoral college system) contrasted with Ireland's STV system, which actually allows a party to run more than one candidate (and when one is knocked out, the votes can transfer based on voter preference - though we also have multi-seat constituencies) Party politics is fairly broken, though rules on being rich to win an election in the US are rather stupid too...

I did see part of a "special TV" program featuring Dodo Trump & family with (I think ) Babs Walters doing the interview.
Got bored with it quickly as it was more an advertisement than a genuine interview.
Babs asked her tough questions, sort of like "gee, Mr Trump, can you tell us about all the great things that make you so great ?"
I half expected Babs to offer to remove her dentures and give Dodo Trump a "gummy job"
One thing about Babs, she's a glowing testament to the cosmetic surgery and taxidermy and camouflage industries

I was just curious what people's most and least favourite countries to play were and why. Does it correspond to the rankings of which countries win the most games?

Idea for a Diplomacy Game
I know there is a vdip variant where you only have one SC but I think it would be interesting to get a game going on here where It has unique rules.
1. You can only move one unit per turn. And you can only move additional units for every SC you gain.
2. By Spring of the 2nd year you could be moving 2 units, and so on and so forth.
anyone ever done anything like that?

Is this the longest game ever?
This game has been going for 2 (100 in game years) years as it is the 2012 world cup. It must be the longest or most back and forth game ever. In fact Austria was down to 1 supply centres near the 1/3 mark but is still alive! Imagine the commitment. If anyone has spectated all the way through I congratulate you, also well done to the players for the commitment they have shown.

So if I wanted to produce a pc-game...
How would I go about that? I probably need a team because I don't have the technical know-how. Where to start though?
No, I won't be jumping into this without knowing what the hell I'm doing. In fact, I won't start anytime soon. This is just the very first reconnaissance. What kind of people do I need and how do I know they'll do the job well? What can I reasonably do myself? I decide what the game should be like for the biggest part.
