How does Ghost Rating work in relation to taking over a country that has left a game?
Is it exactly the same, i.e., by taking over the country you commit your GR to the game?

1,773 names on the list. It keeps getting smaller. It hasn't been that low since October of 2008. Web dippers are quietly dying off.

Or quietly being banned.

The list has varied at times because of the drop off. For years the drop-off time was 6 months but in the past few months that's gone to 3 months because that what it was originally; and when we took it over after the long gap we only had the original script. We should really change it back to six at some point though.

is GR ever going to be integrated into the site?

Do we have any stats on active user base over time? Would be kinda cool to see.

Just wanted to register my eagerness to see category GR again.

Looking forward to December Ghost Ratings; is it one person who runs the spreadsheet? If so, is there a way to help out?

I believe it's A_Tin_Can and ghug who maintain it.

December will be up in a few days (hopefully tomorrow if I get time).

We're always looking for help with site development, if you know PHP (and can follow the instructions to set up your own test environment).

I know that's not really what you asked. Automating the GR scripts (which are currently a small command line PHP script, and then a perl script) would be very welcome. It's another improvement that I've not quite gotten around to.

If anyone wants to do the leg work for new site features or bug fixes (we have a LONG todo list, but many tasks are small), or to automate GR, I would absolutely welcome it.

We're not planning to integrate GR into the site- but one day we will integrate a better rating system. As we've alluded to before, it will probably be more Elo (or maybe TrueSkill) like.

Oh! And yes, categories will be coming back at some point. Anyone who wants to help modify the existing scripts to produce categories, please shoot us a mail at [email protected].

All of the pieces are there, it just needs a solid hour or two from someone to glue it all together. It's unfortunately never at the top of my development priorities.

It would be amazing if we could get a couple more hands on deck on the dev team. We have lots of awesome stuff planned (including some super special changes leading up to the World Diplomacy Championship next year) and we'd love some help in realising everything.

Currently we have ideas in the pipeline for

* sandbox mode (so you can test your orders)
* better NMR/CD handling resulting in fewer ruined games when players drop out
* an improved map, less pixelated, and clearer (including showing retreating units)
* not deleting games when they get cancelled (so the record and press stays around, but doesn't affect your stats)
* more detailed stats on user profiles (solos per country, categories, etc)
* modernity improvements
* better leaderboard and integrated ranking system
* more modern forum (a couple of sub folders, and the ability to have links and other modern features). This would be great for SoW, as we could have maps embedded in the post. And we wouldn't have to lock threads over a certain age.
* unranked games for casual play (and the ability to create "friends" games, to make it clearer when users who know each other off site are playing together. Friends games would always be unranked).
* pre game chat
* automatically updating press and map, so page loads aren't needed (live games would be SO much better)
* many many more ideas

Clearly I can't do all of this on my own. Let us know if you're interested in helping improve the site! We can offer you worldwide fame, recognition and admiration. And Belgium[1].

Would certain changes, like wins per country and category stats on our profile, include stats accumulated before this is implemented? Or only future games?

Stats are generated from all finished games, so any changes to the reporting would include past games.

We're not short on ideas, we're short on time. Anyone wanting to pick up the improved stats project would have a very large input in exactly what gets reported (although obviously any development would include a conversation about "would you accept this change?").

Love the ability to play unranked games and test new strategies without compromising GR

Its too late for me, as my GR is already highly compromised. My entire account is basically a sandbox for my poor play.
