It's 3 weekends until we go to see it so me and my partner are watching one of the Original Trilogy each weekend leading up to Episode VII. Never watched them with him before so that'll be quite nice.

Haha -- you know, I haven't yet -- but I could be persuaded to drag up as Leia once! I think my favourite dress-up would be Luke though. He was such a dream in Episode IV. All about the robes.

Yeah, I don't look at him and see much appeal anymore...

...but the binary sunset scene in A New Hope always struck a chord with me: the beautiful music and beautiful scenery, sublime landscape, the pathos, with Luke's longing look, his raw youth, desire to be free, but free to what he was not sure, mixed with the sense of foreboding of the Empire raging above him soon to come crashing down. It's a really beautiful scene.

Han Solo has the smooth-talking charm for sure, but Luke has the cute vulnerability, which I found/find endearing.

I'm rewatching the six episodes in order (first time I do that), but after Ep I I'm still building up courage to do II and III. Gawd Ep I was horrible.

Ep1 is indeed bad. 2 and 3 are tolerable. 4-6 is where the awesomeness is at.

As bad as Episode I can be, it does have many redeeming features -- the extended lightsaber battle between Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul is great; the visualisations of Naboo and Coruscant; as much as I didn't like Jar Jar, kids love it, and they love the pod race; Natalie Portman is great; and I thought the boy cast to play Anakin was well-cast.

Some idiot exec thought let's have a humorous alien to provide light relief, and all this did was utterly destroy any chance of immersion. The original series I loved; I walked out of the cinema half way through episode 1 with murder in my heart.

Lucas was setting it up for Jar Jar to be the big bad, but then changed his mind when he saw how unpopular Jar Jar was. The theory makes his character tolerable.

Young ani in the prequels got way too much hate.

I actually didn't dislike Jar Jar when I originally watched the prequel. (I pretended to dislike him because it was the cool thing to do though.)
But now after rewatching it, I can see what people mean when they say he ruins the immersion.
